The elastic and capillary interactions between a pair of colloidal particles trapped on top of a nematic film are studied
theoretically for large separations d. The elastic interaction is repulsive and of quadrupolar type, varying as d-5. For macroscopically thick films, the capillary interaction is likewise repulsive and proportional to d-5 as a consequence of mechanical isolation of the system comprised of the colloids and the interface. A finite film thickness
introduces a nonvanishing force on the system (exerted by the substrate supporting the film) leading to logarithmically varying
capillary attractions. However, their strength turns out to be too small to be of importance for the recently observed pattern

Textured composite samples consisting of Nd13.6Fe73.6Ga0.6Co6.6B5.6 (MQU-F™) and micron-sized Fe particles with weight ratios from 100:0 to 70:30 have been prepared by hot deformation. Microstructure studies revealed a layered structure of both phases with the layer normal parallel to the pressing direction. Magnetic measurements showed single-phase hysteresis curves for all samples when measured along the pressing direction, which is also the easy axis of magnetization. Coercivity decreased drastically from 1.32 T for pure NdFeB samples to 0.154 T for a sample with 30 wt% Fe. Magneto-optical Kerr microscopy with a digitally enhanced imaging technique has been used to examine the evolution of magnetic domains in the hard and soft phase during demagnetizing a sample consisting of 70 wt% NdFeB and 30 wt% Fe. It is shown that demagnetization takes place via domain rearrangements within the soft phase, which lead to and support the nucleation of reversed interaction domains at phase boundaries. The chemical composition of lipids from six human brains (60–73 years) is reported. The total lipids out of cortex, white matter, diencephalon and cerebellum, pons, and medulla oblongata have been isolated and the neutral lipids have been separated in cerebrosides, sphingomyelines, and lecithins. The highest amount of pure lipids is found in the white matter, the lowest in the cortex. The relation of neutral lipids to acid lipids as well as the amount of cholesterol are about equal for all regions. The white matter shows more cerebrosides and sphingomyelines than the cortex, the opposite being the case for lecithins. The differences are strongly significant. The fatty acids out of the different pure lipid fractions have been analysed as esters by gas chromatography. Stearic and lignoceric acid, and cerebronic and hydroxy nervonic acid respectively are main components of cerebrosides, with only little differences for the different brain regions. The fatty acids of sphingomyelines consist mainly of stearic and nervonic acid; in the white matter these two acids are present about in the same quantity, whereas stearic acid dominates in the cortex and the other sections. Lecithins contain above all palmitic and oleic acid. The amount of the latter in the white matter is higher than that of palmitic acid. 相似文献

A literature survey indicated that stereospecific non-reductive β-face methylation at C(10) of steroidal synthesis intermediate BCD-tricyclic 9-en-5-ones had never been effected. An attempt to define the factors controlling the β/α product ratio in such alkylations was made. The course of methylation is significantly affected by the temperature. In the best case, methylation of the sodium enolate of 17 β-t-butoxy-19-(3,5-dimethyl-4-isoxazolyl)-deA-androst-9-en-5-one ( 18 ) in tetrahydrofuran at ? 78° gave a β/α product ratio of > 5:1. The reaction mixture contained no unalkylated or dialkylated materials, indicating that enolate exchange probably did not occur at this temperature. The 10β-methylated product 23 , isolated in 78% yield, was converted to Δ9(ll)-dehydrotestosterone ( 29 ).
