We study the Cauchy problem for the quasilinear parabolic equation where p > 1 is a parameter and ψ is a smooth, bounded function on (1, ∞) with ? ? sψ′(s)/ψ(s) ? θ for some θ > 0. If 1 < p < 1 + 2/N, there are no global positive solutions, whereas if p > 1 + 2/N, there are global, positive solutions for small initial data.  相似文献

Giant shape vibrations of fission fragments are described in a simple model which is based on nuclear transport theory. The friction and inertial parameters are calculated within the linear response and cranking theory, respectively. The initial conditions are chosen in the scission region following the conventional picture of the fission process at low energy. Molecule-like defect complexes have been studied at Cd acceptors in the III–V semiconductors GaAs, GaP, InP, InAs, and InSb by PAC spectroscopy. After hydrogen plasma treatment, the formation of Cd-H complexes was observed in all these compounds. Additionally, the formation and stability of Cd-S and Cd-Se pairs in GaAs have been analyzed.  相似文献

In the early stage of ultrarelativistic heavy-ion collisions chiral symmetry is restored temporarily. During this so-called chiral phase transition, the quark masses change from their constituent to their bare values. This mass shift leads to the spontaneous non-perturbative creation of quark–antiquark pairs, which effectively contributes to the formation of the quark–gluon plasma. We investigate the photon production induced by this creation process. We provide an approach that eliminates possible unphysical contributions from the vacuum polarization and renders the resulting photon spectra integrable in the ultraviolet domain. The off-equilibrium photon numbers are of quadratic order in the perturbative coupling constants while a thermal production is only of quartic order. Quantitatively, we find, however, that for the most physical mass-shift scenarios and for photon momenta larger than 1 GeV the off-equilibrium processes contribute less photons than the thermal processes.  相似文献

The physics of granular matter is one of the big questions in science. Granular matter serves as a prototype of collective systems far from equilibrium and fundamental questions remain. At the same time, an understanding of granular matter has tremendous practical importance. Among practical problems, granular mixing and its interplay with segregation is arguably at the top of the list in terms of impact. Granular mixing in three-dimensional systems is complicated, as flow induces segregation by particle size or density. Several approaches and points of view for analysis are possible in principle, ranging from continuum to discrete. Flow and segregation in three-dimensional systems is seemingly complicated; however, to a reasonable approximation, all of the dynamics takes place in a thin flowing surface layer. This observation, coupled with key experimental results, leads to a simple, compact and extensible continuum-based dynamical systems framework applicable to time-periodic flow in quasi-two-dimensional tumblers and three-dimensional systems (such as spheres and cubes) rotated about one or more axes of rotation. The case of time-periodic systems, in its simplest version, can be viewed as a mapping of a domain into itself. The placement of periodic points can be investigated using symmetry concepts; the character of the periodic points and associated manifolds provides a skeleton for the flow and a template for segregation processes occurring in the flow.  相似文献

Soliton physics has made considerable progress in solving nonlinear problems. This paper is meant to relate the soliten concept to the stationary axisymmetric vacuum fields in general relativity. We present a functional transformation which, working as a nonlinear creation operator, generates gravitational fields of isolated sources. When applied to flat space-time (gravitational vacuum) this operation leads to a nonlinear superposition of an arbitrary number of Kerr particles. This superposition also includes the Tomimatsu-Sato fields. The functional transformations form an infinite-parameter group which contains the Kinnersley-Geroch group as a subgroup.This essay received the second award from the Gravity Research Foundation for the year 1980.-Ed.  相似文献

At DIII-D, a slot divertor concept, called small-angle-slot (SAS), is under development, aiming to enable detachment at relatively low plasma edge density. We report on simulations using the SOLPS-ITER two-dimensional edge code to examine the performance of conceptual “SAS 2” slot configurations. The focus of the analysis is on E  ×  B drift effects on upstream density at detachment (UDD), with detachment marked by electron temperature Te ≤ 3 eV at the outer strike point (OSP). With toroidal field such that radial E  ×  B drift carries particles from the OSP towards the private flux region (PFR), placing the OSP near the inner slot wall gives ≈20% lower UDD than having the OSP near the outer wall. The inner wall effectively traps the radial E  ×  B drift flux, resulting in low Te and associated radial electric field in the PFR, and thus small losses from the slot to the inner target via poloidal E  ×  B drift flux. With toroidal field reversed such that radial E  ×  B drift is reversed, OSP placement near the inner wall gives ≈10% lower UDD than OSP placement near the outer wall. Although radial E  ×  B flux is from the OSP towards the outer wall, this flux largely escapes the slot, raising the UDD. A change in the slot shaping is suggested with the goal of eliminating such E  ×  B -driven particle losses from the slot.  相似文献
