Abstract A method is presented to assess lake water–groundwater interactions by modelling isotope signatures of lake water using meteorological parameters and field data. The modelling of δ18O and δD variations offers information about the groundwater influx into a meromictic Lusatian mining lake. Therefore, a water balance model is combined with an isotope water balance model to estimate analogies between simulated and measured isotope signatures within the lake water body. The model is operated with different evaporation rates to predict δ18O and δD values in a lake that is only controlled by weather conditions with neither groundwater inflow nor outflow. Comparisons between modelled and measured isotope values show whether the lake is fed by the groundwater or not. Furthermore, our investigations show that an adaptation of the Craig and Gordon model [H. Craig, L.I. Gordon. Deuterium and oxygen-18 variations in the ocean and the marine atmosphere. In this paper we describe some fluorescent plant and mushroom dyes. This part of natural product chemistry was of little interest for most natural scientists until today. Most of these substances are published in scientific papers, but there are only rare hints for eventually fluorescence‐phenomenones. Equipped with an UV‐lamp, test tubes and some common solvents, natural products can easily be tested to show fluorescence. Modules are common functional and structural properties of many social, technical andbiological networks. Especially for biological systems it is important to understand howmodularity is related to function and how modularity evolves. It is known thattime-varying or spatially organized goals can lead to modularity in a simulated evolutionof signaling networks. Here, we study a minimal model of material flow in networks. Wediscuss the relation between the shared use of nodes, i.e., the cooperativity of modules,and the orthogonality of a prescribed output pattern. We study the persistence ofcooperativity through an evolution of robustness against local damages. Many neutrino mass models postulate the existence of at least two extra fermions in order to account for the measured solar and atmospheric mass splittings. In these models, however, the predicted hierarchy between the two mass splittings is generically much larger than the observed one, unless extra flavor symmetries are introduced. We present in this Letter a radiative neutrino mass model consisting of the Standard Model extended by one heavy fermionic singlet and two scalars which predicts, under very general conditions, a neutrino mass hierarchy in qualitative agreement with the experimental value. 相似文献

We consider a single-server queueing system. The arrival process is modelled as a Poisson process while the service times of the consecutive customers constitute a sequence of autoregressive random variables. Our interest into autoregressive service times comes from the need to capture temporal correlation of the channel conditions on wireless network links. If these fluctuations are slow in comparison with the transmission times of the packets, transmission times of consecutive packets are correlated. Such correlation needs to be taken into account for an accurate performance assessment. By means of a transform approach, we obtain a functional equation for the joint transform of the queue content and the current service time at departure epochs in steady state. To the best of our knowledge, this functional equation cannot be solved by exact mathematical techniques, despite its simplicity. However, by means of a Taylor series expansion in the parameter of the autoregressive process, a “light-correlation” approximation is obtained for performance measures such as moments of the queue content and packet delay. We illustrate our approach by some numerical examples, thereby assessing the accuracy of our approximations by simulation. For the heavy correlation case, we give differential equation approximations based on the time-scale separation technique, and present numerical examples in support of this approximation. 相似文献
