A chaotic mapping provides a technique for generating musical variations of an original work. This technique, based on the sensitivity of chaotic trajectories to initial conditions, produces changes in the pitch sequence of a piece. A sequence of musical pitches {p(i)}, i.e., any piece ranging from Bach (or earlier) to contemporary music, is paired with the x-components {x(i)} of a Lorenz chaotic trajectory. Each p(i) is marked on the x axis at the point designated by its x(i). In this way, the x axis becomes a pitch axis configured according to the notes of the original composition. Then, a second chaotic trajectory, whose initial condition differs from the first, is launched. Its x-components trigger pitches on the pitch axis (via the mapping) that vary in sequence from the original work, thus creating a variation. In the past decade Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) has emerged as a powerful technique for the analysis of artistic, historical and archaeological material culture. However, the identification of organic compounds in complex samples using SERS can be challenging owing to the complexity in optimizing the adsorption of target analytes onto the plasmonic substrate and the difficulty to identify proper areas on the sample for robust SERS analysis using optical systems. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) interfaced with Raman spectromicroscopy (μRS) provides an ideal hyphenated system to overcome the last challenge by: (1) evaluating the nanoparticles coverage/distribution on the sample and (2) locating suitable areas for successful and reproducible SERS analysis. In this paper we demonstrate the potential of a system interfacing SEM and μRS for single fiber, extractionless analysis in the characterization of dyes from reference collections and archaeological textiles. Heterogeneous Fenton or Fenton-like reagents consist of a mixture of an iron-containing solid matrix and a liquid medium with H2O2. The Fenton system is based on the reaction between Fe2?+? and H2O2 to produce highly reactive intermediate hydroxyl radicals (???OH), which are able to oxidize organic contaminants, whereas the Fenton-like reaction is based on the reaction between Fe3?+? and H2O2. These heterogeneous systems offer several advantages over their homogeneous counterparts, such as no sludge formation, operation at near-neutral pH and the possibility of recycling the iron promoter. Some doping transition cations in the iron oxide structure are believed to enhance the catalytic efficiency for the oxidation of organic substrates in water. In this work, goethites synthesized in presence of niobium served as precursors for the preparation of magnetites (niobian magnetites) via chemical reduction with hydrogen at 400°C. These materials were used as Fenton-like catalysts. Both groups of (Nb, Fe)-oxide samples were characterized by 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy at 298 K. The results show that increasing niobium contents raise the catalytic potential for decomposition of methylene blue, which was, in this work, used as a model molecule for organic substrates in water.  相似文献

Accurate and efficient filtering techniques are required to suppress large nuisance components present in short-echo time magnetic resonance (MR) spectra. This paper discusses two powerful filtering techniques used in long-echo time MR spectral quantitation, the maximum-phase FIR filter (MP-FIR) and the Hankel-Lanczos Singular Value Decomposition with Partial ReOrthogonalization (HLSVD-PRO), and shows that they can be applied to their more complex short-echo time spectral counterparts. Both filters are validated and compared through extensive simulations. Their properties are discussed. In particular, the capability of MP-FIR for dealing with macromolecular components is emphasized. Although this property does not make a large difference for long-echo time MR spectra, it can be important when quantifying short-echo time spectra.  相似文献

Recent studies show that a negative shock in stock prices will generate more volatility than a positive shock of similar magnitude. The aim of this paper is to appraise the hypothesis under which the conditional mean and the conditional variance of stock returns are asymmetric functions of past information. We compare the results for the Portuguese Stock Market Index PSI 20 with six other Stock Market Indices, namely the SP 500, FTSE 100, DAX 30, CAC 40, ASE 20, and IBEX 35. In order to assess asymmetric volatility we use autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity specifications known as TARCH and EGARCH. We also test for asymmetry after controlling for the effect of macroeconomic factors on stock market returns using TAR and M-TAR specifications within a VAR framework. Our results show that the conditional variance is an asymmetric function of past innovations raising proportionately more during market declines, a phenomenon known as the leverage effect. However, when we control for the effect of changes in macroeconomic variables, we find no significant evidence of asymmetric behaviour of the stock market returns. There are some signs that the Portuguese Stock Market tends to show somewhat less market efficiency than other markets since the effect of the shocks appear to take a longer time to dissipate.  相似文献

Electronic structure spin-polarized calculations were performed for 79-atoms embedded clusters representing the ordered intermetallic compound FeNi, the fcc Fe-rich disordered alloy Fe85Ni15 in an antiferromagnetic (AFM) configuration, and the ferromagnetic (FM) disordered alloy Fe50Ni50. The spin-polarized discrete variational method (DVM) in Density Functional theory was employed. Spin magnetic moments, as well as the 57Fe Mössbauer hyperfine parameters isomer shift and magnetic hyperfine fields, were obtained from the calculations. For FM Fe50Ni50, the effect of pressure on the hyperfine field and on the isomer shift was investigated, for three different local atomic configurations surrounding the 57Fe probe atom. In the case of the isomer shift, the calculated values were compared to reported experimental data.  相似文献

Great reductions in the overall size and complexity of high throughput multichannel UV-visible fluorometers were achieved by coupling a compact optical fiber array to compact dispersive transmission optics. The coaxial configuration centers on the insertion of a silica/silica optical fiber into the hollow region of a UV-fused silica capillary waveguide. The outer core delivers the maximum power of the narrow wavelength region of the excitation spectrum created by coupling a xenon arc discharge lamp to a compact spectrometer. The molecular fluorescence resulting from the interaction of light emitted at the distal end of the hollow waveguide and the sample matrix is received and transmitted to a CCD via a compact dispersive grating-prism (grism) optical assembly. A linear array of the coaxial optical fibers permits a full excitation-emission matrix spectrum of the analyte matrix to be projected onto the face of the CCD. The in situ identification and monitoring of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons was carried out for the initial application testing for this prototype.  相似文献
