On the nonexistence of certain Hughes generalized quadrangles

In this paper, we prove that the Hermitian quadrangle is the unique generalized quadrangle Γ of order (q ², q ³) containing some subquadrangle of order (q ², q) isomorphic to such that every central elation of the subquadrangle is induced by a collineation of Γ. Dedicated to Dan Hughes on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

Na离子和Cl离子引起He原子直接多重电离过程的研究

利用2～8 MeV的Naq+、Clq+(q=2,3,4,5)轰击氦原子,对碰撞的直接多重电离过程进行研究.实验采用反冲离子-散射离子飞行时间符合技术,通过反冲离子飞行时间谱区分不同价态反冲离子;利用静电偏转和位置灵敏探测技术区分不同电荷态散射离子;结合CAMAC-PC多参数获取系统得到一定价态散射离子所对应的反冲离子电荷态分布谱;经分析该谱得到直接多重电离截面与直接单电离截面之比R21.讨论了R21随入射离子速度和电荷态的变化关系.

The magnetic behaviour of the magnetically diluted spinel compound Fe0.6Mg1.6Ni0.1Ti0.7O4 studied by Mössbauer spectroscopy

From a new magnetically diluted spinel oxide with composition Fe_0.6Mg_1.6Ni_0.1Ti_0.7O₄ an as-prepared sample and one after reheating three times have been investigated with Mössbauer spectroscopy. The spectra of the as-prepared sample clearly show a typical superparamagnetic behaviour of magnetic clusters with diverging sizes. On the other hand, the reheated sample exhibits a sharp magnetic transition at 16 K. External-field Mössbauer measurements of the latter reveal spin canting to be exclusively present on the octahedral sites which disappears at the magnetic transition temperature. These results show that this spinel compound exhibits a transition to a spin-glass for which the random freezing only occurs on the octahedral sites.

On connected line sets of antiflag class in

We investigate the partial linear spaces, fully embedded in an affine space with the property that for every antiflag {p,L}, the number of lines through p intersecting L is either 0,α, or q. Besides some general results we prove a complete classification of those geometries fully embedded in an affine plane of order q and of the connected geometries with 1<α<q, fully embedded in .     

The Bell inequalities and the joint measurement of incompatible observables

A quantum-mechanical theory of joint nonideal measurement of incompatible polarization observables is applied to an EPR-like experiment. It is demonstrated that this experiment yields both information satisfying and information violating the Bell inequalities. The measurement is also discussed in the context of a local hidden-variables theory. It is argued that the violation of an additional assumption of reproducibility of the hidden variable rather than violation of locality may be responsible for the violation of the Bell inequalities.
