Summary Hydrazine, an oxygen scavenger in boiler water, was derivatised to the corresponding acetone azine and determined at the ng ml–1 level by gas chromatography. Morpholine, a corrosion inhibitor used in steam boilers, was estimated either directly (if >2.0 g ml–1) or by quantitative preconcentration (0.1 ng – 2.0 g ml–1). To obtain symmetrical peaks for these amines, the column packing was coated with KOH. Use of a nitrogen-specific detector improved accuracy of estimation of hydrazine and morpholine, giving a RSD of 1.9–3.6%. Chromatographic analysis of these amines in boiler feed water and steam condensate samples collected from boilers servicing a petroleum refinery is described. Environmental safety regulations calls for monitoring of hydrazine and the methods developed can easily be adapted for this purpose.  相似文献

Conditions have been developed for the determination of chromium after extraction of its phenanthrenequinone monoximate into molten naphthalene in the presence of potassium chloride. The solidified naphthalene-containing chromium complex was dissolved in chloroform and the trace amounts of chromium determined spectrophotometrically. Beer's law holds in the concentration range of 5.2–84.3 μg in 10 ml of the chloroform solution. The molar absorptivity and sensitivity (for an absorbance of 0.001) are calculated to be 6.65 × 103 liters mol−1 cm−1 and 0.00782 μg/cm2. Ten replicate solutions containing 31.2 μg of chromium(III) gave a mean absorbance of 0.399 with a relative standard derivation of 0.00497. Interference of various ions has been studied and the method applied for the determination of chromium(III) in certain alloys.  相似文献

Measurements of the specific heat of two alloys of Ce (0.00275 and 0.0121 at % Ce) in Al have been made in the region 0.3<T<3.8 K. Within the limits of detection (<1 ppm), the alloys contained no metallic impurities other than Ce and their homogeneity was checked by neutron activation analysis. For the alloys in their normal electronic states, the change/c was found to be 6±3 and 3.5±1.5mJ/at% K2. The behavior of the alloys in their superconducting states (e.g.: the shift ofT c with the concentration of Ce; the correlation betweenT C/TC0 andC/C 0) indicates the existence of short-lived local moments associated with the Ce impurities.  相似文献

We report here our results on the spectroscopic and elemental analysis of femtosecond (fs) laser-modified regions in polymers of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) and polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) in the context of defect formation and emission in the visible region. Different physical and chemical models are used to explain the changes in modified regions. We found that the emission intensity, recorded from the fs-modified regions of polymers, decreased over time to a constant value. We also demonstrate that these materials are suitable for the preparation of the microstructures en route for light guiding applications. The fs laser-irradiated regions exhibited paramagnetic behavior as was confirmed from electron spin resonance studies through the formation of peroxide-type free radicals. Raman mapping was performed in the modified regions which consisted of defects and found that the modulations in intensity are predominant in the central portion of the structure compared to edges. Elemental analysis has been performed in the modified regions using field emission scanning electron microscope instrument and energy-dispersive X-ray absorption spectroscopy to estimate the percentage contents of individual elements which resulted in defect formation such as paramagnetic and optical centers.  相似文献
