1:1 Hetero‐assembly of 2‐amino­pyrimidine and (+)‐camphoric acid

In the title cocrystal, 2‐aminopyrimidine–(+)‐camphoric acid (1/1), C₄H₅N₃·C₁₀H₁₆O₄, the 2‐amino­pyrimidine forms two eight‐membered hydrogen‐bonded rings with two different camphoric acid mol­ecules. This results in infinite wave‐like chains of mol­ecules in which neighbouring chains are connected by weak C—H?O contacts. The five‐membered ring in the acid mol­ecule adopts a half‐chair conformation.     

Gold(I)-Catalyzed and PTSA-Promoted Cycloisomerization of Ynamides to Access Pyrrole Substituted α,β-Unsaturated Ketones**

Substituted pyrroles are prevalent aromatic ring systems encountered in numerous natural products and bioactive molecules. Herein, a novel ynamide scaffold has been designed, synthesized and subsequently applied to an unprecedented gold-catalyzed and para-toluenesulfonic acid (PTSA)-assisted cascade cycloisomerization reaction for the synthesis of β-pyrrole substituted α,β-unsaturated ketones. Notably, the reaction is stereoselective, offering E-isomer as major product with low to moderate yield.

Effects of head group of cationic surfactants on the hydrolysis of p‐nitrophenyl acetate catalyzed by α‐chymotrypsin

The kinetics of hydrolysis of p‐nitrophenyl acetate catalyzed by α‐chymotrypsin (α‐CT) has been studied in the presence of several cationic surfactants having different head groups maintaining the dodecyl hydrophobic residue and bromide counterion. The enzyme activity was tested in the presence of dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide (DTAB), dodecylpyridinium bromide (DPB), dodecyldimethylethanolammonium bromide (DDMEAB), dodecyldiethylethanolammonium bromide (DDEEAB), benzyldimethyldodecylammonium bromide (BDDAB), and dodecyltriphenylphosphonium bromide (DTPB) surfactants. The extent of superactivity depends upon head groups of surfactants. The activity of α‐CT depends on the surfactant concentration and it varies with the surfactant head group dimensions (DTPB > DDEEAB > DTAB > BDDAB > DDMEAB > DPB). For all surfactants, DTPB exhibits highest superactivity. The effects of surfactants on the apparent kinetic parameters like Michaelis constant K_m and the catalytic constant k_cat have been determined. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Segregated self-assembly and pillaring action of aliphatic dicarboxylic acids in the super structure of Cu–picolinate complexes

Three new supramolecular assemblies of co-crystallized metal complexes and aliphatic dicarboxylic acids, {[Cu(pic)₂(H₂O)₂](H₂mal)}_n (1), {[Cu(pic)₂(H₂O)₂](H₂mal)₂(H₂O)₂}_n (2) and {[Cu(pic)₂(MeOH)](H₂succ)}_n (3) {Hpic = 2-picolinic acid, H₂mal = malonic acid and H₂succ = succinic acid} have been synthesized and characterized by X-ray single-crystal structure determination. The crystal packings of the complexes reveal that supramolecular associations of the monomeric complex units lead to the formation of layers through hydrogen bonding. In all the complexes, the dicarboxylic acid units connect the 2-D layers to act as pillars. The interaction between water molecules and the dicarboxylic acid plays an important role in the overall supramolecular assembly.     

Marginal states in a cubic autocatalytic reaction

Marginal steady state belongs to a special class of states in nonlinear dynamics. To realize this state we consider a cubic autocatalytic reaction A + 2B → 3B in a continuous-stirred-tank-reactor, where the flow rate of the reactant A can be controlled to manipulate the dynamical behavior of the open system. We demonstrate that when the flow rate is weakly noisy the autocatalytic reaction admits of a steady state which is marginal in nature and is surrounded by infinite number of periodic trajectories. When the uncatalyzed reaction A → B is included in the reaction scheme, there exists a marginal steady state which is a critical state corresponding to the point of transition between the flow branch and the equilibrium branch, similar to gas-liquid critical point of transition. This state loses its stability in the weak noise limit.     

Synthetic studies of stereocalpin A and its C5-epimer: total synthesis of 11-epi- and 5,11-diepi-stereocalpin A

This Letter describes the synthetic studies of stereocalpin A and its C5-epimer. After various cyclization attempts, successful macrolactamization at 9-10 position was tried inorder to obtain stereocalpin A and its C5-epimer, which were accompanied by complete racemization and resulted in the synthesis of 11-epi- and 5,11-diepi-stereocalpin A. Highly functionalized octanoic acid motif of the depsipeptide was constructed by applying Paterson’s aldol methodology, owing to its diversity in synthesizing various analogs of aliphatic acid.     

Studies on bio-accumulation of <Superscript>51</Superscript>Cr by <Emphasis Type="Italic">Piper nigrum</Emphasis>

The present study is performed to examine the accumulation efficiency of ⁵¹Cr(III) and ⁵¹Cr(VI) by the alkaloid piperine, derived from the fruits of Piper nigrum (Family Piperaceae) as well as using the fruit commonly known as black pepper by radiometric technique. The pH dependence and the effect of the concentration of chromium on the accumulation have also been examined. The maximum accumulation (52%) of Cr(III) is found by black pepper at pH 4 whereas piperine shows slight accumulation at this condition. Accumulation of Cr(VI) by black pepper is always negligible. It has also been observed that some other constituents of the black pepper like gum, terpenoid, etc., besides piperine is responsible for the accumulation of chromium.
