Lifetime measurement in the β system (c1Φ-a1Δ) of TiO

The radiative lifetime of the v′ = 0 level of the c¹Φ state of TiO has been measured from observations on fluorescent decay of a single rotational level, following excitation by laser radiation. The value is τ₀ = 17.5 ± 1.0 nsec. From this is derived a transition probability of 5.71 × 10⁷ sec^?1 and an emission f value of 0.270. Transition probabilities for the other bands in the β system have been calculated.     

Avalanche photo-diodes for high frequency applications

The aim of this paper is to encourage the use of avalanche photo-diodes in optical communication systems, especially if high speeds are required. The basic theory of the device is first briefly reviewed. This is followed by a few examples of the possible performance compared to that of a PIN photodiode. Some frequency response measurements of recent avalanche photodiodes are then presented.     

Complemented subspaces and Λ systems in banach spaces

The excitons at the band edge of PbI2

The effects of electric fields on the excitonic features at the fundamental edge of PbI₂ suggest that they cannot be interpreted in terms of a single series. The present results indicate a binding energy for the main exciton peak smaller than 45 meV.     

A kinetics study of the temperature dependence of the reactions of OH(2Π) with CF3CHCl2, CF3CHClF,and CF2ClCH2Cl

The flash photolysis resonance fluorescence technique has been utilized to determine the rate constants for three reactions involving the hydroxyl radical [OH(²?)] and three halogenated C₂ alkanes. The nominal temperature range covered was 250–375 K. The compounds studied and the resulting Arrhenius expressions in units of cm³/molec·sec are The error limits in these expressions are such that they include any possible systematic errors due to the presence of impurities in the halocarbon samples. Tropospheric lifetimes have been calculated for the above species by combining the above rate constant data with global seasonally and diurnally averaged hydroxyl radical concentrations.

The c(d,n0)n reaction from 3.6 MeV to 12.0 MeV

The excitation function for the reaction ¹²C(d, n₀)¹³N was measured at 0° in the energy range of 3.6 to 12.0 MeV deuteron bombarding energy. Angular distributions were measured at 7.0, 8.0, 9.0, 10.5 and 12.0 MeV deuteron bombarding energies. Cross sections are compared with the ¹²C(d, p₀)¹³C reaction. The yield curves for the neutron and proton groups show a strong similarity in shape. Different sets of deuteron and proton optical-model parameters were used in fitting the 8 MeV energy averaged angular distribution.
