Spontaneous Surgery on the Borromean Rings

We study the cone-manifolds whose singular sets are obtained by orbifold and spontaneous surgeries on components of the Borromean rings. We establish existence of geometric structures on these manifolds. For manifolds with hyperbolic structure we obtain an integral representation for volumes.     

Aftereffect in microhardness testing of corundum

Cleavage near microhardness indentations on the surface of corundum is found to appear long (20–30 days) after unloading.     

Multi-Wavelength Optical Packet Routing Technologies Based on Superstructured Fiber Bragg Gratings

A WDM compatible Edge-to-Edge Self-Routed optical packet switched network that simplifies the optical processing is proposed. The system employs all-optical packet label generation and recognition using coded superstructured Fiber Bragg gratings.     

Space Stereoscopic Observatory Project

The Interplanetary Solar Stereoscopic Observatory (ISSO) is designed for long-time series of observations of the Sun and Solar system bodies. The basic principle is a stereoscope with stable base, which is planned to be realized by inserting two identically equipped spacecrafts (SC) into the vicinity of the triangular Lagrange libration points of the “Sun-barycenter of the Earth and Moon” system. The scientific program of the project may include two sets of experiments: experiments related to the solar-terrestrial physics and those related to celestial mechanics, stellar astronomy, and astrophysics, respectively. The coordinate frame in the project is planned to be presented by the FK6 system (catalogues ICRS, Hipparcos, Tycho-2). It is planned to reach the milliarcsecond level of the accuracy of angular measurements. We present the main conception of the project and the solution of the problem of base stability. An iterative procedure for differential analysis of gene expression

Microarrays are a popular technology to study genes that are differentially expressed between two conditions. In this Note, we propose an iterative procedure to determine the biggest subset of non-differentially expressed genes. We prove a pseudo Markov relationship that allows practical computations. Limit Regimes of Braking of Disc-Type Composite Flywheels Made by Filament Winding

A set of invariants describing the limit regimes of braking disk-type wound composite flywheels is suggested. The limit regime is determined by using a linear failure criterion. It is shown that, for generating short-time impulses of very high power, a set of small identical flywheels is more effective than one large flywheel with an equivalent mass. Particular examples illustrating the theory considered are discussed.     

Classification of Integrable Divergent N-Component Evolution Systems

We use a symmetry approach to solve the classification problem for integrable N-component evolution systems having the form of conservation laws. We obtain complete lists of both isotropic and anisotropic systems of this type and find auto-Bäcklund transformations with a spectral parameter for all systems.
