Rapidity dependence of multiplicity distributions in proton-nucleus collisions at 360 GeV/c

Multiplicity distributions in various rapidity intervals for charged particles produced in collisions of 360 GeV/c protons with aluminium (Al) and gold (Au) targets are presented. The data were analysed separately for the forward and backward hemispheres. Each distribution is well described by a negative binomial distribution. The experimental distributions are compared with the predictions of the multichain model calculated by the Monte Carlo program MCMHA in which the intranuclear cascade process is included, and also with the Lund Monte Carlo FRITIOF. The results of MCMHA reproduce quite well the multiplicity distributions for various rapidity intervals.     

Synthesis and biological activity of (3,5-disubstituted-1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)benzophenone derivatives

The synthesis of (5-acylaminomethyl-3-carbamoyl-1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)benzophenone derivatives 4a-i, 14a-d, 15a-d, 16a-c , is described. Acylation of the key intermediate, 1-benzoylphenylazo-1-aminoacetamide 7, followed by cyclization in the presence of acid afforded 1H-1,2,4-triazole derivatives. These compounds were evaluated for their central nervous system (CNS) activity. Some of these compounds exhibited high activities in anti-pentylene tetrazole and rotarod test in mice when orally administered.     

A novel peptide synthesis using fluorous chemistry

Three new fluorous supports for peptide synthesis, i.e., the trialkoxybenzhydryl-type (6), the Wang-type (7) and the tert-butyl-type support (8), were prepared. A bioactive peptide TRH was easily synthesized by an Fmoc strategy using the benzhydryl-type fluorous support with fluorous chemistry.     

Effective reductive amination of carbonyl compounds with hydrogen catalyzed by iridium complex in organic solvent and in ionic liquid

The direct reductive amination (DRA) of carbonyl compounds with amines has been achieved using homogenous iridium catalyst and gaseous hydrogen. It appeared that the cationic iridium catalyst, [Ir(cod)₂]BF₄, without any other ligands was sufficient for the reaction. For the DRA of the ketone substrates, an ionic liquid, [Bmim]BF₄, was found to be superior to the other organic solvent used. Especially, the counter anion of the ionic liquid has a significant influence on the selectivity, and at the same time, a high reaction temperature was found to be crucial for the excellent selectivity.     

Fabrication of sub-micrometer-sized jingle bell-shaped hollow spheres from multilayered core-shell particles

Jingle bell-shaped hollow spheres were fabricated starting from multilayered particles composed of a silica core, a polystyrene inner shell, and a titania outer shell. Composite particles of silica core-polystyrene shell, synthesized by coating a 339-nm-sized silica core with a polystyrene shell of thickness 238 nm in emulsion polymerization, were used as core particles for a succeeding titania-coating. A sol-gel method was employed to form the titania outer shell with a thickness of 37 nm. The inner polystyrene shell in the multilayered particles was removed by immersing them in tetrahydrofuran. These successive procedures could produce jingle bell-shaped hollow spheres that contained a silica core in the titania shell.
