The rate of the substitution reaction of (R)-3-chloro-3,7-dimethyloctane (1) with either methanol or benzyl alcohol in mixtures containing the ionic liquid [Bmim][N(CF3SO2)2] was monitored using 35Cl NMR spectroscopy. The enantiomeric excess of the product, (S)-3-methoxy-3,7-dimethyloctane (2a), was analyzed using chiral gas chromatography. This product showed a decreasing enantiomeric excess with increasing concentration of ionic liquid. The rate of reaction of substrate 1 in each case varied with the concentration of the ionic liquid. Polarity measurements of the solvent mixtures were undertaken by standard methods, which are compared both to each other and to the observed rates. Solvent reorganization and selective solvation are also each proposed as contributing to the difference in the observed rates of reaction.  相似文献

Mesoporous zeolites are a new and technologically important class of materials that exhibit improved diffusion and catalytic reaction properties compared to conventional zeolites with sub‐nanometer pore dimensions. During their syntheses, the transient developments of crystalline and mesoscopic order are closely coupled and challenging to control. Correlated solid‐state NMR, X‐ray, and electron microscopy analyses yield new molecular‐level insights on the interactions and distributions of complicated organic structure‐directing agents with respect to crystallizing zeolite frameworks. The analyses reveal the formation of an intermediate layered silicate phase, which subsequently transforms into zeolite nanosheets with uniform nano‐ and mesoscale porosities. Such materials result from coupled surfactant self‐assembly and inorganic crystallization processes, the interplay between which governs the onset and development of framework structural order on different length and time scales.  相似文献

Small signal and saturated gains of picosecond pulses in Rhodamine dye amplifiers have been measured. A 17 cm amplifier produces a maximum small signal gain of ≈20, and with three amplifiers in series, peak pulse powers of > 3 GW are obtained. Mode-locking of Rhodamine 6G in the spectral range 575–600 nm is improved by employing DQOCI as saturable absorber.  相似文献

Plant-based foods, like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds and other foodstuffs, have been deemed as heart healthy. The chemicals within these plant-based foods, i.e., phytochemicals, are credited with protecting the heart. However, the mechanistic actions of phytochemicals, which prevent clinical endpoints, such as pathological cardiac hypertrophy, are still being elucidated. We sought to characterize the overlapping and divergent mechanisms by which 18 selected phytochemicals prevent phenylephrine- and phorbol 12-myristate 13-acetate-mediated cardiomyocyte enlargement. Of the tested 18 compounds, six attenuated PE- and PMA-mediated enlargement of neonatal rat ventricular myocytes. Cell viability assays showed that apigenin, baicalein, berberine hydrochloride, emodin, luteolin and quercetin dihydrate did not reduce cell size through cytotoxicity. Four of the six phytochemicals, apigenin, baicalein, berberine hydrochloride and emodin, robustly inhibited stress-induced hypertrophy and were analyzed further against intracellular signaling and genome-wide changes in mRNA expression. The four phytochemicals differentially regulated mitogen-activated protein kinases and protein kinase D. RNA-sequencing further showed divergence in gene regulation, while pathway analysis demonstrated overlap in the regulation of inflammatory pathways. Combined, this study provided a comprehensive analysis of cardioprotective phytochemicals. These data highlight two defining observations: (1) that these compounds predominantly target divergent gene pathways within cardiac myocytes and (2) that regulation of overlapping signaling and gene pathways may be of particular importance for the anti-hypertrophic actions of these phytochemicals. Despite these new findings, future works investigating rodent models of heart failure are still needed to understand the roles for these compounds in the heart.  相似文献

A multiple sprayer electrospray ion source for high-throughput analysis is described. The ion source is comprised of multiple electrospray capillaries, each with an ion lens located near the tip. The electric potentials applied to the ion lenses are used to control the sprayers. The use of ion lenses eliminates the need for mechanical blocking devices to selectively enable or disable the sprayers, and results in a less expensive and more reliable set-up. Sprayers can be enabled or disabled within approximately 50-250 ms when the lens potentials are controlled manually. For simultaneous operation of multiple electrospray capillaries, it is advantageous to orient the capillaries so that the spray from each passes directly in front of the entrance aperture of the mass spectrometer.  相似文献

Arrays of 84 polymer gradients, fabricated on a single glass microscope slide, were generated by inkjet printing, allowing a combination of high‐throughput and true combinatorial methods. The gradual change of composition within the polymer gradients, consisting of two different monomers and a cross‐linker, was validated by XPS and fluorescence analysis. Cellular screening of the gradients allowed the rapid identification of optimal polymer compositions for binding of the suspension cell line K562 and the adherent cell line HeLa. The polymers identified were identical to those identified by previous microarray data, providing proof of concept for the successful application of the polymer gradient arrays as a screening tool. In addition, the polymer gradients could be readily modified by conjugation enabling the generation of bio‐molecule gradients.  相似文献

The Pd(OAc)2/O2/DMSO catalyst system displays impressive versatility in the aerobic oxidation of organic substrates, ranging from alcohols to olefins. This report details mechanistic insights into these reactions. Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) plays no redox role in the chemistry, and kinetic experiments identify the turnover-limiting step as DMSO-promoted oxidation of palladium(0) by molecular oxygen. The "chemical oxidase" pathway characterized for this catalyst system holds great promise for the design of new aerobic oxidation reactions.  相似文献

The appearance of anionic phosphatidylserine (PS) in the outer monolayer of the plasma membrane is a universal indicator of the early/intermediate stages of cell apoptosis. The most common method of detecting PS on a cell surface is to use the protein annexin V; however, in certain applications there is a need for alternative reagents. Recent research indicates that rationally designed zinc 2,2'-dipicolylamine (Zn2+-DPA) coordination complexes can mimic the apoptosis sensing function of annexin V. Here, a series of fluorescently-labelled, tri- and pentapeptides with side chains containing Zn2+-DPA are prepared and shown to selectively bind to anionic vesicle membranes. Fluorescein-labelled versions of the peptides are used to detect apoptotic cells by fluorescence microscopy and flow cytometry.  相似文献
