Spatial deterministic chaos in optical systems and methods of its modeling

The phenomenon of spatial deterministic chaos is described. A transition from an ordinary differential equation to a discrete map is justified for modeling of the chaos. Methods of studying the chaos dynamics in this model are suggested. It is established how the physical properties of a nonlinear ring interferometer influence the structure of charts of the Lyapunov exponents. Measurement uncertainty of selenium determination in the reference material Seronorm Trace Elements Serum by hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry

 An analytical result is not considered to be complete without a statement of the measurement uncertainty associated with it. Evaluation of measurement uncertainty is therefore an essential part of every determination. In the present study the measurement uncertainty of the result of determination of selenium in the reference material Seronorm Trace Elements Serum was studied. The combination of a digestion procedure using sulfuric acid, V₂O₅ in H₂SO₄ and hydrogen peroxide and the continuous flow approach of hydride generation atomic fluorescence spectrometry (HG-AFS) detection was used for selenium determination. The total uncertainty budget was calculated with the help of the GUM Workbench program, in which computations follow the rules of the ’ISO guide to the expression of uncertainty in measurement’. The major sources of uncertainty were found to be due to the recovery of the procedure, measurement of peak heights and the purity of Na₂SeO₃. A selenium mass fraction of 77.1±4.8 ng/g (with a coverage factor of 2.1, 95% probability) was determined, which is comparable with the recommended value of 80 ng/g. Experience of Control over Process of Chemical-Informational Synthesis

Conditions under which various kinds of carbon nanoparticles are obtained by thermal oxidative conversion of methane in chlorine in the temperature range 20-500°C were studied. The influence exerted by conditions of synthesis of nanodispersed carbon on the properties of its samples was analyzed.     

A Note about the Appearance of Non-Hyperbolic Solutions in a Mechanical Pendulum System

The investigation of the behavior of a nonlinear system consists in theanalysis of different stages of its motion, where the complexity varieswith the proximity of a resonance region. Near this region the stabilitydomain of the system undergoes sudden changes due basically tocompetition and interaction between periodic and saddle solutions insidethe phase portrait, leading to the occurrence of the most differentphenomena. Depending of the domain of the chosen control parameter,these events can reveal interesting geometric features of the system sothat the phase portrait is not capable to express all them, since theprojection of these solutions on the two-dimensional surface can hidesome aspects of these events. In this work we will investigate thenumerical solutions of a particular pendulum system close to a secondaryresonance region, where we vary the control parameter in a restrictdomain in order to draw a preliminary identification about what happenswith this system. This domain includes the appearance of non-hyperbolicsolutions where the basin of attraction in the center of the phaseportrait diminishes considerably, almost disappearing, and afterwardsits size increases with the direction of motion inverted. Thisphenomenon delimits a boundary between low and high frequency of theexternal excitation.
