Marine Exopolysaccharide Complexed With Scandium Aimed as Theranostic Agents

(1) Background: Exopolysaccharide (EPS) derivatives, produced by Alteromonas infernus bacterium, showed anti-metastatic properties. They may represent a new class of ligands to be combined with theranostic radionuclides, such as ⁴⁷Sc/⁴⁴Sc. The goal of this work was to investigate the feasibility of such coupling. (2) Methods: EPSs, as well as heparin used as a drug reference, were characterized in terms of molar mass and dispersity using Asymmetrical Flow Field-Flow Fractionation coupled to Multi-Angle Light Scattering (AF4-MALS). The intrinsic viscosity of EPSs at different ionic strengths were measured in order to establish the conformation. To determine the stability constants of Sc with EPS and heparin, a Free-ion selective radiotracer extraction (FISRE) method has been used. (3) Results: AF4-MALS showed that radical depolymerization produces monodisperse EPSs, suitable for therapeutic use. EPS conformation exhibited a lower hydrodynamic volume for the highest ionic strengths. The resulting random-coiled conformation could affect the complexation with metal for high concentration. The LogK of Sc-EPS complexes have been determined and showing that they are comparable to the Sc-Hep. (4) Conclusions: EPSs are very promising to be coupled with the theranostic pair of scandium for Nuclear Medicine.     

A New Differential Method Applied to the Study of Arbitrary Cross Section Microstructured Optical Fibers

The present work adapts a recent grating theory called “Fast Fourier factorization” to cylindrical coordinates in order to study microstructured optical fibers (MOFs). Compared with the classical differential method, this new differential method takes into account the truncation of Fourier series and the discontinuities of the fields across the diffracting surface with the help of new factorization rules. The main advantage of this method is that the directrix of the diffracting cylindrical surface is arbitrary and permits anisotropic and inhomogeneous media although its numerical application needs longer computation time, compared with other well-known numerical methods. The S-propagation algorithm is used to avoid numerical contaminations. The numerical results are validated and compared with the well-established Multipole method in the case of a MOF with six circular cylinders. Further, a new cross-sectional profile (with sectorial inclusions) that the Multipole method cannot consider is studied.     

Efficient preparation of carbohydrate- and related polyol-amphiphiles by hydrazone ligation

The hydrazone ligation can be used to couple clustered-glycosides or glycomimetics functionalized with a hydrazino group with lipophilic glyoxylyl acid derivatives to give the corresponding amphiphiles in high yield and purity.     

Gamma-gamma angular correlation study of oxygen motion in yttria-stabilized zirconia

The nuclear quadrupole relaxation of ¹⁸¹Ta in ZrO₂9 mole% Y₂O₃ has been measured by time differential angular correlations between 350 and 1150°C. The results are consistent with a distribution of the activation energy controlling the local motion of oxygen vacancies.     

Pentamethoxynitrosobenzene: (MeO)5phNO. A useful new spin-trapping agent

Pentamethoxynitrosobenzene (PMeONB) has been prepared and its use as a spin-trapping (ST) agent has been investigated. Its solubility is adequate for ST in most organic solvents; compared with the routinely used aryl nitroso compounds, PMeONB is more dissociated into the active monomeric form in solution; the potential windows are of the same order of magnitude. Its spin adduct ESR spectra give move information on the trapped radical than those of any other ST agent.     

N-tert-butyl-N-phosphonyloxyaminyls a new class of persistent radicals

The title radicals have been generated by hydrogen abstraction from the corresponding hydroxylamines in benzene solution. In the absence of oxygen these radicals are extremely persistent and their esr data (a_N14, a_N15 and a_C13, determined without isotopic enrichment) are characteristic of a electronic configuration.
