Reference is usually made to the parallel orientation towards the main line of exerted tension at the pubic joint in mice, for supporting forces applied to the joint. Despite the wealth of morphological information about the extracellular matrix in this joint, little is known regarding the involvement of the crimp of collagen fibers in the dramatic transformations occurring in this region during the last 3 days of pregnancy. Examination of the collagenous architecture suggests that the biomechanical properties are directly related to fibril diameters, composition of ground substance and changes in the bundle morphology, particularly in the crimp structure. The purpose of this study was to further describe the transformation of the collagen fibers of the pubic symphysis during late mouse pregnancy. We examined the architecture of collagen fibers in the symphysis and pubic ligament through the Picrosirius-polarization method and also through scanning electron microscopy to directly visualize and measure the crimping from pregnant and virgin mice. The crimp angle and the length of five consecutive crimps were measured according to Patterson-Kane et al. [Connect. Tissue Res. 36 (1997) 253]. It could be demonstrated that the angles progressively decreased and the crimp length increased, denoting that the fibers have untwisted during the relaxation process. Our findings suggest that a disruption of the helical arrangement of the collagen containing fibers may contribute to explaining the rapid remodeling that occurs at the end of pregnancy and that is responsible for an increase in pliancy and length of the pubic ligament in mice.  相似文献

This paper describes the ability of several ionic liquids cations for electroosmotic flow modulation in capillary electrophoresis. Organic salts based on phosphonium, sulfonium, cysteinium, ammonium, and guanidinium cations were selected to study this property. In addition, the synergistic effect of these compounds in cyclodextrin chiral separation was also evaluated. In comparison with most studied imidazolium-based ionic liquids, several of the cations studied, are stronger modifiers in terms of electroosmotic flow (EOF) modulation. Phosphonium-based compounds and tri-octyl methylammonium chloride ([Aliquat]Cl) had the strongest ability to reverse EOF both in acidic and in basic conditions and had the lowest EOF reversal concentrations in the presence of hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin. EOF modulation ability of phosphonium cations also contributed to the improvement of chiral separation of DL-propranolol by hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin at lower concentrations in comparison with most commonly used EOF modulators such as tetrabutylammonium phosphate.  相似文献

Abstract

Nonlinear mixed-effects models have received a great deal of attention in the statistical literature in recent years because of the flexibility they offer in handling the unbalanced repeated-measures data that arise in different areas of investigation, such as pharmacokinetics and economics. Several different methods for estimating the parameters in nonlinear mixed-effects model have been proposed. We concentrate here on two of them—maximum likelihood and restricted maximum likelihood. A rather complex numerical issue for (restricted) maximum likelihood estimation in nonlinear mixed-effects models is the evaluation of the log-likelihood function of the data, because it involves the evaluation of a multiple integral that, in most cases, does not have a closed-form expression. We consider here four different approximations to the log-likelihood, comparing their computational and statistical properties. We conclude that the linear mixed-effects (LME) approximation suggested by Lindstrom and Bates, the Laplacian approximation, and Gaussian quadrature centered at the conditional modes of the random effects are quite accurate and computationally efficient. Gaussian quadrature centered at the expected value of the random effects is quite inaccurate for a smaller number of abscissas and computationally inefficient for a larger number of abscissas. Importance sampling is accurate, but quite inefficient computationally.  相似文献

We present here a new shear free model for the gravitational collapse of a spherically symmetric charged body. We propose a dissipative contraction with radiation emitted outwards represented by the Vaidya–Reissner–Nordström metric. The Einstein field equations, using the junction conditions and an ansatz, are integrated numerically. A check of the energy conditions is also performed. We obtain that the charge delays the Reissner–Nordström black hole formation and it can even prevent the collapse.  相似文献

N‐linked or O‐linked glycans derived from glycoprotein processing carry, an N‐acetylglucosamine or an N‐acetylgalactosamine respectively, at their reducing termini. The presence of the N‐acetylamino group on C‐2 of reducing sugar residues has been reported to hamper the derivatization reaction with a chromophore at the anomeric centre. In this paper N‐acetyllactosamine, N‐acetylglucosamine, N‐acetylgalactosamine and several other neutral monosaccharides are coupled to three different dyes (4‐aminobenzonitrile, 2‐aminopyridine, 2‐aminobenzoic acid (2‐AA)) by reductive amination and analysed by CE with UV detection. The 2‐AA derivatives showed the lowest concentration detection limits, varying approximately in the 2–3 μM range for the saccharides tested including the N‐acetamido ones. The possibility to separate and detect with the same sensitivity ten 2‐AA‐labelled monosaccharides mainly found in mammalian or plant glycoproteins in a single CE run is highlighted. The analysis has been carried out in less than 25 min using the borate‐complexation method in CZE mode. The influence of the strength of the acid used as catalyst in the chemical modification of the sugars with 2‐AA is also shortly addressed.  相似文献

A combined experimental and first principles study of the (2x1)-reconstructed rutile TiO2(011) surface is presented. Our results provide evidence that the surface structure is described by a model that includes onefold coordinated (titanyl) oxygen atoms giving rise to double bonded Ti=O species. These species should play a special role in the enhanced photocatalytic activity of the TiO2(011) surface.  相似文献

This work refers to a study of the thermal decomposition of octahydro-1,3,5,7-tetranitro-1,3,5,7 tetrazocine (HMX) by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) in non-isothermal conditions, with heating rates from1 to 25°C min−1. The influence of the heating rate, the particle and the sample size were verified. The activation energy was calculated using the peak temperature shift method, proposed by Ozawa and a significant variation in the results was observed according to the range of the used heating rates. As the heating rate was increased, different conversions and self-heating effects were observed at the respective DSC peaks, indicating that the use of this method was inadequate and it may lead to incorrect results, which, in turn, could explain the wide range of activation energy values published in literature. At lower heating rates HMX decomposition occurs on the solid state and at higher ones decomposition occurs after melting practically at the same temperature, which does not depend on the heating rate.
