A matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometer was developed which uses a novel reflectron composed of a grounded cylinder and an adjustable endcap electrode to provide high-order kinetic energy focusing for a miniaturized mass analyzer. The nearly quadratic potential form of the reflecting field focuses ions desorbed from a source of very small dimensions formed by placing the sample probe within the centered hole of the coaxial dual channel plate detector. At the same time, the depth of the reflectron can be adjusted to accommodate a short drift length between the source/detector and the reflectron. For larger drift lengths, in particular to allow the addition of an XY stage for the analysis of sample arrays, endcap reflectron focusing can be combined with time-delayed ion extraction to achieve good mass resolution. The instrument has been used for the analysis of peptides digested with trypsin or carboxypeptidase, and also small DNA oligomers.  相似文献

The Conditional Probability Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics replaces the abstract notion of time used in standard Quantum Mechanics by the time that can be read off from a physical clock. The use of physical clocks leads to apparent non-unitary and decoherence. Here we show that a close approximation to standard Quantum Mechanics can be recovered from conditional Quantum Mechanics for semi-classical clocks, and we use these clocks to compute the minimum decoherence predicted by the Conditional Probability Interpretation.  相似文献

We propose the use of bright matter-wave solitons formed from Bose-Einstein condensates with attractive interactions to probe and study quantum reflection from a solid surface at normal incidence. We demonstrate that the presence of attractive interatomic interactions leads to a number of advantages for the study of quantum reflection. The absence of dispersion as the soliton propagates allows precise control of the velocity normal to the surface and for much lower velocities to be achieved. Numerical modelling shows that the robust, self-trapped nature of bright solitons leads to a clean reflection from the surface, limiting the disruption of the density profile and permitting accurate measurements of the reflection probability.  相似文献

Inelastic collision rates for ultracold 85Rb atoms in the F = 2, m(f) = -2 state have been measured as a function of magnetic field. At 250 gauss (G), the two- and three-body loss rates were measured to be K2 = (1.87+/-0.95+/-0.19)x10(-14) cm(3)/s and K3 = (4.24(+0. 70)(-0.29)+/-0.85)x10(-25) cm(6)/s, respectively. As the magnetic field is decreased from 250 G towards a Feshbach resonance at 155 G, the inelastic rates decrease to a minimum and then increase dramatically, peaking at the Feshbach resonance. Both two- and three-body losses are important, and individual contributions have been compared with theory.  相似文献

The effect of the naturally occurring crosslinking junctions on green strength of natural rubber, isolated from Hevea brasiliensis, was investigated by using rubber extracted from Parthenium argentatum Gray (Guayule) as a model. Guayule rubber and natural rubber were characterized through nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and size exclusion chromatography. The non‐rubber components of Guayule rubber and natural rubber were characterized by Kjeldahl method and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. It was found that Guayule rubber contains a much higher amount of fatty acids and their esters while it contains no proteins. The gel content, determined by swelling method, was related to a number of naturally occurring crosslinking junctions of Guayule rubber and natural rubber. The outstanding green strength of natural rubber was attributed to the effect of naturally occurring crosslinking junctions, when stress–strain curve and tensile properties of unvulcanized Guayule rubber were compared with those of unvulcanized natural rubber.
