We present a new parametric model for the angular measure of a multivariate extreme value distribution. Unlike many parametric models that are limited to the bivariate case, the flexible model can describe the extremes of random vectors of dimension greater than two. The novel construction method relies on a geometric interpretation of the requirements of a valid angular measure. An advantage of this model is that its parameters directly affect the level of dependence between each pair of components of the random vector, and as such the parameters of the model are more interpretable than those of earlier parametric models for multivariate extremes. The model is applied to air quality data and simulated spatial data.  相似文献

Some responses of various meadow species to enhanced UV-radiation of the natural daylight spectrum are described together with the experimental protocol employed. Growth responses to supplementary UV-B+A are mostly inhibitory when compared to the ambient daylight treatment for Bellis perennis, Cardamine pratensis, Cynosurus critatus and Ranunculus ficaria. However, the response of UV-A treatment compared to that of the UV-B+A varies in significance according to the species and parameter investigated. The pertinence of the ambient and UV-A treatment to data interpretation is discussed. Stomatal conductance of B. perennis was measured throughout the 24 h cycle. Although no significant difference could be found between the stomatal conductance of UV and ambient treated plants during the hours of daylight, at night it was found that the UV-B+A treated plants were unable to achieve the same degree of closure as the ambient treated plants. UV-damage and growth responses could alter the diversity of the meadow ecosystem and these effects could be exacerbated by water loss.  相似文献

Recently we reported the reaction of 1,1-dimethyl-4-substituted semicarbazides with phosgene to occur with formation of several new heterocyclic ring systems. Here we report the reaction of several semicarbazides, thiosemicarbazides and related acyl substituted hydrazides with oxalyl chloride and malonyl chloride. These reactions occur with the formation of heterocyclic products which are oxadiazolinones, imidazolidinetriones, 2-thioxoimidazolindine-4,5-diones, and 2-thioxo-1,3-diazine-4,6-diones (2-thioxopyrimidine-4,6-diones).  相似文献

Phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (Erk) is tightly controlled by dual specificity phosphatases (DSPases), but few inhibitors of Erk dephosphorylation have been identified. Using a high-content, fluorescence-based cellular assay and the National Cancer Institute's 1990 agent Diversity Set, we identified ten compounds (0.5%) that significantly increased phospho-Erk cytonuclear differences in intact cells. Three of the ten positive compounds inhibited the mitogen-activated protein kinase phosphatase-3 (MKP-3/PYST-1) in vitro without affecting VHR or PTP1B phosphatases. The most potent inhibitor of MKP-3 had an IC(50) of <10 microM and inhibited MKP-3 in a novel, fluorescence-based multiparameter chemical complementation assay. These results suggest that the phospho-Erk nuclear accumulation assay may be a useful tool to discover DSPase inhibitors with biological activity.  相似文献

Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOFMS) was used for the characterization of a partially transesterified poly(beta-hydroxyalkanoate), PHA, polymer produced by the bacterial strain Alcaligenes eutrophus using saponified vegetable oils as the sole carbon sources. The transesterification was carried out separately under acidic and basic conditions to obtain PHA oligomers weighing less than 10 kDa. The intact oligomers were detected in their cationized [M + Na](+) and [M + K](+) forms by MALDI-TOFMS. A composition analysis, using the MALDI-TOF spectra, indicate that the oligomers obtained via acid catalysis were terminated with a methyl 3-hydroxybutyrate end group, and those obtained by base catalysis had a methyl crotonate (olefinic) termination. In addition to HB (hydroxy butyrate), the oligomers were found to contain a small percentage of HV (hydroxy valerate). This was independently confirmed using gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS). In comparison, the analysis of a commercial PHA polymer, transesterified under identical conditions, only showed the presence of HB, i.e. a pure PHB homopolymer. We present the results of a search for point sources of high-energy neutrinos in the northern hemisphere using AMANDA-II data collected in the year 2000. Included are flux limits on several active-galactic-nuclei blazars, microquasars, magnetars, and other candidate neutrino sources. A search for excesses above a random background of cosmic-ray-induced atmospheric neutrinos and misreconstructed downgoing cosmic-ray muons reveals no statistically significant neutrino point sources. We show that AMANDA-II has achieved the sensitivity required to probe known TeV gamma-ray sources such as the blazar Markarian 501 in its 1997 flaring state at a level where neutrino and gamma-ray fluxes are equal.  相似文献

Using space-time resolved solutions to relativistic quantum field theory, we analyze the electron-positron creation process from vacuum in the long-time regime in which multiple pairs are produced. We find that for a supercritical potential of finite extension, the time dependence of the production rate of pairs is described by four distinct regimes that have their direct counterparts in the time evolved spatial density of the particles. These regimes include the shape-invariant birth process, an entanglement-induced reduction of interference, a recurrent Pauli suppression of pair production induced by electron-potential scattering, and finally a production halt associated with a population of supercritical and a partial population of subcritical bound states.  相似文献

Polychromatic ultraviolet (UV) action spectra for various growth responses of the dicotyledon Bellis perennis L. (daisy) and the grass Cynosurus cristatus L. (crested dog's-tail) have been measured. The plants were grown in the natural environment and ambient daylight was supplemented with five different UV irradiances centred at eight different wavelengths (313, 318, 320, 322, 339, 348, 356 and 377 nm). Destructive growth analysis was performed on B. perennis and C. cristatus after 300 and 122 days respectively. Dose response curves were created to construct action spectra for individual responses. Different spectral responses were observed in these two plant types. B. perennis exhibited a substantial action maximum at 313 nm for the inhibition of aerial, root and total dry weight; a similar action maximum at 313 nm for the inhibition of leaf expansion was observed. Longer wavelengths were relatively ineffective on these growth parameters, with the exception of a small but statistically significant (P < 0.05) response to 320 nm radiation. By contrast, C. cristatus showed negligible response to 313 nm radiation, for inhibition of aerial, root and total dry weight but substantial responses to longer wavelengths, especially at 339 and 348 nm. These action spectra add weight to suggestions in the literature that UV-A has a role to play in responses in this region of the spectrum. The possible implications of these observations are discussed.  相似文献

We report results from a reanalysis of data from the Cryogenic Dark Matter Search (CDMS II) experiment at the Soudan Underground Laboratory. Data taken between October 2006 and September 2008 using eight germanium detectors are reanalyzed with a lowered, 2 keV recoil-energy threshold, to give increased sensitivity to interactions from weakly interacting massive particles (WIMPs) with masses below ~10 GeV/c(2). This analysis provides stronger constraints than previous CDMS II results for WIMP masses below 9 GeV/c(2) and excludes parameter space associated with possible low-mass WIMP signals from the DAMA/LIBRA and CoGeNT experiments.  相似文献
