Isentropic fluid dynamics in a curved pipe

In this paper we study isentropic flow in a curved pipe. We focus on the consequences of the geometry of the pipe on the dynamics of the flow. More precisely, we present the solution of the general Cauchy problem for isentropic fluid flow in an arbitrarily curved, piecewise smooth pipe. We consider initial data in the subsonic regime, with small total variation about a stationary solution. The proof relies on the front-tracking method and is based on [1].     

Superoscillating Sequences in Several Variables

In a series of papers (J Phys A 44:365304, 2011; Complex Anal Oper Theory 7:1299–1310, 2013; J Math Pures Appl 99:165–173, 2013; J Math Pures Appl 103:522–534, 2015), we have investigated some mathematical properties of superoscillating sequences in one variable, and their persistence in time. In this paper we study the notion of superoscillation in several variables and we show how to construct examples of sequences that exhibit this property.     

Non-simultaneous quenching in a system of heat equations coupled at the boundary

We study the solutions of a parabolic system of heat equations coupled at the boundary through a nonlinear flux. We characterize in terms of the parameters involved when non-simultaneous quenching may appear. Moreover, if quenching is non-simultaneous we find the quenching rate, which surprisingly depends on the flux associated to the other component. Partially supported by project BFM2002-04572 (Spain). Direct and Inverse Problems for a Phase-Field Model with Memory

We consider a semilinear integrodifferential system in non-normal form. Such a system is a generalization of the one that arises in the phase-field theory with memory. We prove an abstract existence and uniqueness theorem and a continuous dependence result for the direct problem. Reformulating the direct problem in a suitable way we prove that the identification problem admits a unique solution.

Application of average dynamic programming to inventory systems

We show the existence ofaverage cost (AC-) optimal policy for an inventory system withuncountable state space; in fact, the AC-optimal cost and an AC-optimal stationary policy areexplicitly computed. Completeness theorem for propositional probabilistic models whose measures have only finite ranges

A propositional logic is defined which in addition to propositional language contains a list of probabilistic operators of the form P_s (with the intended meaning the probability is at least s). The axioms and rules syntactically determine that ranges of probabilities in the corresponding models are always finite. The completeness theorem is proved.
