Models of baryon structure predict a small quadrupole deformation of the nucleon due to residual tensor forces between quarks or distortions from the pion cloud. Sensitivity to quark versus pion degrees of freedom occurs through the Q2 dependence of the magnetic (M1+), electric (E1+), and scalar (S1+) multipoles in the gamma*p-->Delta(+)-->p pi(0) transition. We report new experimental values for the ratios E(1+)/M(1+) and S(1+)/M(1+) over the range Q2 = 0.4-1.8 GeV2, extracted from precision p(e,e(')p)pi(0) data using a truncated multipole expansion. Results are best described by recent unitary models in which the pion cloud plays a dominant role.  相似文献

In this paper we motivate and describe an algorithm to solve the nonlinear programming problem. The method is based on an exact penalty function and possesses both global and superlinear convergence properties. We establish the global qualities here (the superlinear nature is proven in [7]). A low temperature scanning force microscope (SFM) operating in a dynamic mode in ultrahigh vacuum was used to study the Si(111)- (7x7) surface at 7.2 K. Not only the twelve adatoms but also the six rest atoms of the unit cell are clearly resolved for the first time with SFM. In addition, the first measurements of the short range chemical bonding forces above specific atomic sites are presented. The data are in good agreement with first principles computations and indicate that the nearest atoms in the tip and sample relax significantly when the tip is within a few A of the surface.  相似文献

[formula: see text] Both in vivo and in vitro techniques have been developed to test putative intermediates in the biosynthetic pathway to the pseudopterosins, antiinflammatory compounds isolated from Pseudopterogorgia elisabethae. Furthermore, specific activity data we have obtained indicate that pseudopterosin A is a precursor to pseudopterosins B, C, and D. We conclude that in the biosynthesis xylose is attached to the diterpene skeleton to produce pseudopterosin A and is then aceylated to form pseudopterosins B-D.  相似文献

A systematic study of the sodium and calcium salts of an ethylene–methacrylic acid copolymer is reported. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (in the midinfrared region) is applied to the characterization of structural changes as a function of temperature and time of annealing. In the spectra of calcium ionomers, bands associated with carboxylate dimers are identified and assignments of specific spectral features to multiplets and clusters are discussed. The spectroscopic changes observed in the spectra of sodium ionomers differ somewhat from their calcium counterparts in that a single infrared band attributed to isolated carboxylate groups is observed. Assignments of specific bands to multiplets and clusters can, however, be made in a manner consistent with the interpretation of the spectra of calcium ionomers.  相似文献

Multifunctional gold nanoparticle-peptide complexes for nuclear targeting   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7  
The ability of peptide-modified gold nanoparticles to target the nucleus of HepG2 cells was explored. Five peptide/nanoparticle complexes were investigated, particles modified with (1) the nuclear localization signal (NLS) from the SV 40 virus; (2) the adenovirus NLS; (3) the adenovirus receptor-mediated endocytosis (RME) peptide; (4) one long peptide containing the adenovirus RME and NLS; and (5) the adenovirus RME and NLS peptides attached to the nanoparticle as separate pieces. Gold nanoparticles were used because they are easy to identify using video-enhanced color differential interference contrast microscopy, and they are excellent scaffolds from which to build multifunctional nuclear targeting vectors. For example, particles modified solely with NLS peptides were not able to target the nucleus of HepG2 cells from outside the plasma membrane, because they either could not enter the cell or were trapped in endosomes. The combination of NLS/RME particles (4) and (5) did reach the nucleus; however, nuclear targeting was more efficient when the two signals were attached to nanoparticles as separate short pieces versus one long peptide. These studies highlight the challenges associated with nuclear targeting and the potential advantages of designing multifunctional nanostructured materials as tools for intracellular diagnostics and therapeutic delivery.  相似文献
