Volume growth, spectrum and stochastic completeness of infinite graphs

We study the connections between volume growth, spectral properties and stochastic completeness of locally finite weighted graphs. For a class of graphs with a very weak spherical symmetry we give a condition which implies both stochastic incompleteness and discreteness of the spectrum. We then use these graphs to give some comparison results for both stochastic completeness and estimates on the bottom of the spectrum for general locally finite weighted graphs.     

Lewis Acid Directed Regioselective Metalations of Pyridazine

Mono‐ or bidentate boron Lewis acids trigger a regioselective magnesiation or zincation of pyridazine in position C3 (ortho product) or C4 (meta product). The regioselectivity of the metalation was rationalized with the help of calculated pK_a values of both pyridazine and pyridazine/Lewis acid complexes.     

Evoking biphone neighborhoods with verbal transformations: illusory changes demonstrate both lexical competition and inhibition

When a recorded verbal stimulus repeats over and over, perceptual changes occur and listeners hear competing forms. These verbal transformations (VTs) were obtained for a phonemically related set of 24 consonant-vowel syllables that varied widely in frequency-weighted neighborhood density (FWND). Listener's initial transformations involving substitution of consonants versus vowels were strongly correlated with the lexical substitution neighborhood [r=+0.82, p<0.0001]. Interestingly, as stimulus FWND increased, average time spent hearing illusory forms substantially decreased [r=-0.75, p<0.0001]. These results suggest that VTs not only reveal underlying competitors, but also provide a highly sensitive measure of lexical inhibition.     

Redox and Acid–Base Properties of Binuclear 4‐Terphenyldithiophenolate Complexes of Nickel

This work reports on the redox and acid–base properties of binuclear complexes of nickel from 1,4‐terphenyldithiophenol ligands. The results provide insight into the cooperative electronic interaction between a dinickel core and its ligand. Donor/acceptor contributions flexibly adjust to stabilize different redox states at the metals, which is relevant for redox reactions like proton reduction. Proton transfer to the [S₂Ni₂] core and Ni?H bond formation are kinetically favored over the thermodynamically favored yet unproductive proton transfer to ligand.
