Three alternative speech coding strategies suitable for use with cochlear implants were compared in a study of three normally hearing subjects using an acoustic model of a multiple-channel cochlear implant. The first strategy (F2) presented the amplitude envelope of the speech and the second formant frequency. The second strategy (F0 F2) included the voice fundamental frequency, and the third strategy (F0 F1 F2) presented the first formant frequency as well. Discourse level testing with the speech tracking method showed a clear superiority of the F0 F1 F2 strategy when the auditory information was used to supplement lipreading. Tracking rates averaged over three subjects for nine 10-min sessions were 40 wpm for F2, 52 wpm for F0 F2, and 66 wpm for F0 F1 F2. Vowel and consonant confusion studies and a test of prosodic information were carried out with auditory information only. The vowel test showed a significant difference between the strategies, but no differences were found for the other tests. It was concluded that the amplitude and duration cues common to all three strategies accounted for the levels of consonant and prosodic information received by the subjects, while the different tracking rates were a consequence of the better vowel recognition and the more natural quality of the F0 F1 F2 strategy.  相似文献

The residual stresses in a shrink-fit specimen were measured ultrasonically, using shear-horizonal (SH) waves transmitted and received by noncontacting electromagnetic acoustic transducers. The presence of stress induces a small change in the velocity of the SH-waves. The difference in velocities of orthogonally polarized SH-waves (acoustic birefringence) was measured with a simple time-interval averaging system; this velocity difference can be related to the difference of principal stresses. The presence of material anisotropy (texture) in the specimen also causes relative velocity changes comparable to stress-induced changes. A simple method was used to remove the anisotropy-dependent component of the total relative velocity change, thereby allowing a determination of residual stress. This method consisted of measuring the birefringence in unstressed reference specimens and subtracting it from the birefringence measured at stressed locations. For the specimen used here, good agreement between theoretical and experimental values of stress was obtained.  相似文献

In this paper, we study the dynamics of a massive aluminum Z-pinch plasma load and evaluate its performance as a soft X-ray radiator. A radiation hydrodynamic model self-consistently driven by a circuit describes the dynamics. Comparisons are made for the K- and L-shell soft X-ray emission as a function of the ionization dynamic model. The ionization dynamic models are represented by: 1) a time-dependent nonequilibrium (NEQ) model, 2) a collisional radiative equilibrium (CRE) model, and 3) a local thermodynamic equilibrium (LTE) model. For all three scenarios the radiation is treated 1) in the free streaming optically thin approximation where the plasma is treated as a volume emitter and 2) in the optically thick regime where the opacity for the lines and continuum is self-consistently calculated online and the radiation is transported through the plasma. Each simulation is carried out independently to determine the sensitivity of the implosion dynamics to the ionization and radiation model, i.e., how the ionization dynamic model affects the radiative yield and emission spectra. Results are presented for the L- and K-shell radiation yields and emission spectra as a function of photon energy from 10 eV to 10 keV. A search for the production of a bound trineutron state has been performed using the reaction 3He(π+)nnn at incident pion energies of 65, 75, and 120 MeV.
