In this paper we report on the design and validation process for the profiled corrugated horn antennas, which feed the bolometer array of a cosmology experiment known as QUaD located at the South Pole. This is a cosmic background radiation polarization project, which demands precise knowledge and control of the optical coupling to the signal in order to map the feeble E- and B-polarization mode structure. The system will operate in two millimeter wavelength bands at 100 and 150 GHz. The imaging horn array collects the incoming signal via on-axis front-end optics and a Cassegrain telescope, with a cold stop in front of the array to terminate side-lobe structure at an edge taper of –20dB. The corrugated horn design process was undertaken using in-house analytical software tools, based on modal scattering, specially developed for millimeter -wave profiled horn antennas. An important part of the instrument development was the validation of the horn design, in particular to verify low edge taper levels and the required well-defined band edges. Suitable feed horn designs were measured and were found to be in excellent agreement with theoretical predictions.  相似文献

The Replica Exchange Statistical Temperature Molecular Dynamics algorithm is used to study the equilibrium properties of a peptide monomer and dimer and the thermodynamics of peptide dimer formation. The simulation data are analyzed by the Statistical Temperature Weighted Histogram Analysis Method. Each 10-residue peptide is represented by a coarse-grained model with hydrophobic side chains and has an α-helix as its minimum energy configuration. It is shown that the configurational behavior of the dimer can be divided into four regions as the temperature increases: two folded peptides; one folded and one unfolded peptide; two unfolded peptides; and two spatially separated peptides. Two important phenomena are discussed: in the dimer, one peptide unfolds at a lower temperature than the isolated monomer and the other peptide unfolds at a higher temperature than the isolated monomer. In addition, in the temperature region where one peptide is folded and the other unfolded, the unfolded peptide adopts an extended structure that minimizes the overall surface area of the aggregate. It is suggested that combination of destabilization due to aggregation and the resulting extended configuration of the destabilized peptide could have implications for nucleating β-sheet structures and the ultimate formation of fibrils.  相似文献

Raman, and infrared spectra of mesna and dimesna have been collected in the present spectroscopic studies. Based on the group frequencies, relative intensities and Raman depolarization measurements, some vibrational assignments have been suggested. For both mesna and dimesna, at least two rotational conformers have been identified. Adsorption behavior was investigated from the recorded surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra. It was found that both mesna and dimesna adsorbed as thiolate on silver sol particles with the cleavage of the S-H bond in mesna and the S-S bond in dimesna. For the adsorbed thiolate, two conformers existed in the adsorption state.  相似文献

The amplitude of the acoustic pressure required to nucleate a gas or vapor bubble in a fluid, and to have that bubble undergo an inertial collapse, is termed the inertial cavitation threshold. The magnitude of the inertial cavitation threshold is typically limited by mechanisms other than homogeneous nucleation such that the theoretical maximum is never achieved. However, the onset of inertial cavitation can be suppressed by increasing the static pressure of the fluid. The inertial cavitation threshold was measured in ultrapure water at static pressures up to 30?MPa (300 bars) by exciting a radially symmetric standing wave field in a spherical resonator driven at a resonant frequency of 25.5 kHz. The threshold was found to increase linearly with the static pressure; an exponentially decaying temperature dependence was also found. The nature and properties of the nucleating mechanisms were investigated by comparing the measured thresholds to an independent analysis of the particulate content and available models for nucleation.  相似文献

The intense acoustic wave generated at the focus of an extracorporeal shock wave lithotripter is modeled as the impulse response of a parallel RLC circuit. The shock wave consists of a zero rise time positive spike that falls to 0 at 1 microsecond followed by a negative pressure component 6 microseconds long with amplitudes scaled to +1000 and -160 bars, P+ and P-, respectively. This pressure wave drives the Gilmore-Akulichev formulation for bubble dynamics; the zero-order effect of gas diffusion on bubble response is included. The negative pressure component of a 1000-bar shock wave will cause a preexisting bubble in the 1- to 10-microns range to expand to over 100 times its initial size, R0, for 250 microseconds, with a peak radius of approximately 1400 microns, then collapse very violently, emitting far UV or soft x-ray photons (black body). Gas diffusion does not appreciably mitigate the amplitude of the pressure wave radiated at the primary collapse, but does significantly reduce the collapse temperature. Diffusion also increases the bubble radius from R0 up to 40 microns and extends the duration of ringing following the primary collapse, assuming that the bubble does not break up or shed microbubbles. Results are sensitive to P+/P- and to the duration of the negative pressure cycle but not to rise time.  相似文献
