Synthesis and Mesogenic Properties of Liquid Crystals Containing Terminal Cyclohexylmethanol,Cyclopentylmethanol, Cyclobutylmethanol and Cyclopropylmethanol Moiety

Four series of compounds 11?50 containing terminal alicyclic rings such as cyclohexylmethyl, cyclopentylmethyl, cyclobutylmethyl, and cyclopropylmethyl rings were synthesized and their liquid crystal behavior studied. The ring size and the length of flexible alkoxy chain influence the phase formation in different ways. While the smaller ring and the shorter alkoxy chain tend to favor the formation of the N phase, the larger ring and the longer alkoxy chain tend to favor the formation of the SmC phase. All the compounds except 11 and 21 exhibit SmA phases. The widest temperature range of the N, SmA, and SmC phases are found in the compounds 41 , 46 , and 20 , respectively, which are 75 °C for 41 , 115 °C for 46 , and 100 °C for 20 .     

Synthesis of a highly hindered hydrindanone via alpha-carbonyl radical cyclization: enantiospecific formal syntheses of (-)-pinguisenol and (-)-alpha-pinguisene

An enantiospecific synthesis of Schinzer's ketone 3 from (R)-(+)-pulegone via alpha-carbonyl radical cyclization was accomplished. This work also constitutes an enantiospecific formal syntheses of (-)-pinguisenol and (-)-alpha-pinguisene. The intermediate ketone 4 would be useful for the synthesis of other pinguisane-type sesquiterpenes.     

应用普通扫描仪作薄层色谱定量分析的初步研究

尝试应用普通扫描仪作薄层色谱定量分析。样品通过硅胶板层析展开后，用碘蒸汽显色，再用普通扫描仪记录其图像，通过图像分析技术计算出斑点中样品的量。结果表明，对油醇、油酸、月桂胺和焦谷氨酸油酯等长碳链有机化合物，样点在nmol级的范围内时计算量与实际量有良好的线性相关性。     

Interaction between organophosphorous hydrolase and paraoxon studied by surface chemistry in situ at air-water interface

Subphase conditions have been optimized to obtain stable organophosphorous hydrolase (OPH-EC 3.1.8.1) as Langmuir films. The Langmuir film was characterized by surface pressure and surface potential-area isotherms and UV-Vis spectroscopy in situ. The interaction of an organophosphorous compound, namely Paraoxon, with the OPH film was investigated for various surface pressures. The stability of the monolayer and the evidence of the enzyme activity at air-water interface support the use of enzyme LB films as biosensor.     

A Novel Dihydroflavone from the Roots of Uvaria Macrophylla

A new dihydroflavone (1), named macrophyllol A, was isolated from the roots of Uvaria macrophylla. Its structure was elucidated on the basis of spectroscopic evidence.     

Efficient electrospray ionization from polymer microchannels using integrated hydrophobic membranes

A simple process for realizing stable and reliable electrospray ionization (ESI) tips in polymer microfluidic systems is described. The process is based on the addition of a thin hydrophobic membrane at the microchannel exit to constrain lateral dispersion of the Taylor cone formed during ESI. Using this approach, ESI chips are shown to exhibit well-defined Taylor cones at flow rates as low as 80 nL min(-1) through optical imaging. Furthermore, stable electrospray current has been measured for flow rates as low as 10 nL min(-1) over several hours of continuous operation. Characterization of the electrospray process by optical and electrical monitoring of fabricated ESI chips is reported, together with mass spectrometry validation using myoglobin as a model protein. The novel process offers the potential for low-cost, direct interfacing of disposable polymer microfluidic separation platforms to mass spectrometry.     

Effect of electrode membrane surface ratio and thickness on lead electrode potential

Summary The lead ion selective electrode (ISE) consisting of PbS-Ag₂S is normally used with a membrane surface of outer layer areaA _o) and inner layer area (A _i) at unity (A _o=A _i). Partial covering of one surface area with an insulating material and keeping the other surface layer intact resulted in different ratios of membrane surface areas exposed to lead solutions. The potential linearly increased with increasing theA _o/A _i ratio and decreased with decreasing theA _o/A _i ratio. The lead ISE potential increased linearly with increasing the membrane thickness, but which required much longer time for a stable potential.

Wirkung von Oberflächenverhältnis und Dicke der Elektrodenmembran auf das Potential einer Bleielektrode

Zusammenfassung Die aus PbS-Ag₂S bestehende spezifische Bleiionen-Elektrode wird üblicherweise mit einem Oberflächenverhältnis der Außenfläche (A _o) und der Innenfläche (A _i) mitA _o=A _i verwendet. Durch teilweise Abdeckung einer Oberfläche mit isolierendem Material, ohne daß die andere Oberfläche verändert wird, ergaben sich verschiedene Verhältnisse der mit der Bleilösung in Berührung stehenden Oberflächen. Mit dem VerhältnisA _o/A _i stieg das Potential linear an bzw. es fiel mit diesem Verhältnis ab. Das Potential der spezifischen Bleielektrode stieg mit der Dicke der Membran, stabilisierte sich aber wesentlich langsamer.
