Fast gel-permeation chromatography. I. A study of operational parameters

A systematic study of factors affecting the GPC separation showed that peak spreading with increasing flow rate was much less than predicted from the Van Deemter equation. Viscous fingering decreased and peak symmetry improved at increased flow rates. As a result, fast GPC analysis was shown to be readily attainable through optimization of operating parameters.

Summary Some isoperimetric inequalities for vibrating membranes are extended to an elastically supported boundary, using conformal transplantation. A further inequality for fixed-free boundaries is given in section 3.     

Calculation of nuclear capture rates of Σ−-hyperonic atoms

Nuclear capture rates of Σ^?-hyperonic atoms are evaluated in the impulse approximation, using a π + ?-exchange model for the elementary Σ^?p → Λn amplitude. The calculation is parameter-free and gives reasonable agreement with experimental rates.

New syntheses of pentafluorotellurium hypochlorite

Chlorination of pentafluoroorthotelluric acid with either chlorine fluorosulfate or chlorine monofluoride furnishes pentafluorotellurium hypochlorite in new, high yield reactions. Additional characterizing data for this useful hypochlorite are presented.

On the estimation of multi-dimensional integrals with strongly oscillating integrands

The estimation of integrals with rapidly oscillating integrands is difficult, as positive and negative contributions will cancel nearly completely. The effect becomes more pronounced as the number of dimensions of the region of integration is increased. The article shows how an integral over ann-dimensional region can be reduced to integrals over itsn?1 dimensional surfaces in such a manner that the oscillating character of the integrand is taken into account. The method can be interpreted as the repeated application of integration by parts along lines normal to the wave fronts which are determined by the integrand. The remaining integral is estimated by the second mean value theorem of integral calculus. The integrations by parts appear only indirectly in the form of an application of Gauss' integral theorem to a vector field which is determined by the integrand.
