In this paper, four sensor types are presented for quantitative measurements in an ultrasonic cleaning vessel: (1) a hydrophone to measure spectral components of the sound field; (2) an aluminium foil technique as a model process for erosion; (3) a test tube filled with a solution of luminol to measure the emission of light; and (4) a test tube filled with potassium iodide solution to measure the oxidation of iodide. Thus a broad range of diverse cavitation effects is covered. The quantities were measured in dependence on three parameters: the electrical input power of the transducers, the temperature and the O2 concentration of the water. To ensure constant environmental conditions, a flow system was built up which continuously exchanges the water in the vessel. The comparability of the data measured in subsequent measurement cycles is discussed and the influence of the different sensor types on the cavitation field is considered. Dependences on the three parameters are shown. A quantitative analysis of correlations between the data is carried out in the second part of the study (Koch and Jüschke, 2012 [1]). 相似文献

We launch surface plasmons from one end of a silver nanowire by asymmetric illumination with white light and use plasmon-to-light scattering at the nanowire ends to probe spectroscopically the plasmonic Fabry-Perot wire modes. The spectral positions of the maxima and minima in the scattered intensity from both nanowire ends are found to be either in-phase or out-of-phase, depending on the nanowire length and the spectral range. This behavior can be explained by a generalized Fabry-Perot model. The turnover point between the two regimes is sensitive to the surface plasmon round trip losses and thus opens a new possibility for detecting changes of the optical absorption in the nanowire environment. 相似文献

In the limit where the bending modulus vanishes, we construct layer configurations with arbitrary dislocation textures by exploiting a connection between uniformly spaced layers in two dimensions and developable surfaces in three dimensions. Ptychographic coherent diffractive imaging (CDI) has been extensively applied using both x rays and electrons. The extension to atomic resolution has been elusive. This Letter demonstrates ptychographic electron diffractive imaging at atomic resolution, permitting identification of structure in a boron nitride helical cone at a resolution of order 1 ?, beyond that of comparative Z-contrast images. A multi-stream Flamelet Progress Variable (FPV) model, specifically developed for coal combustion, is proposed. The model accounts for the different fuel streams associated with the volatile and char burnout products. The applicability of the new FPV model is investigated in a laminar stagnation pulverized coal flame. The flame considered is a premixed mixture of CH4, O2 and N2, carrying pulverized coal particles, stabilized in an impinging wall. Spontaneous emissions of OH*, CH* and C are measured to identify the flame. The 1D numerical simulations of the experimental conditions are able to reproduce the main features of the flame. The applicability of the multi-stream FPV model to coal combustion is further evaluated with the a posteriori analysis of the FPV results, comparing the results with a reference model, where the species are fully transported and the chemistry directly evaluated. Then, with the budget analysis, the influence of the control variables used to build the look-up table is assessed by examining the conditional contributions to the overall transport terms of scalar quantities (e.g. species, temperature). The results of both analyses show that the proposed multi-stream FPV model can accurately predict the main features of coal combustion, with only minor issues related to the manifold used to build the look-up table. 相似文献

Simultaneous measurements of temperature, CH* and OH* chemiluminescent species are carried out to explore the impact of stretch rate and curvature on the structure of premixed flames. The configuration of an initially flat premixed flame interacting with a toroidal vortex is selected for the present study and reasons for this choice are discussed. Lewis number effects are assessed by comparing methane and propane flames. It is emphasized that the flame structure experiences very strong variations. In particular, the flame is shrunk (broadened) in the initial (final) period of the interaction with the vortex where strain rate (curvature) contribution of the stretch rate is predominant. By further analysing independently the thickness of the preheat and reaction zones, it is shown that for propane flames, not only the former but also the latter is significantly altered in zones where the flame curvature is negative. Changes in the reaction zone properties are further emphasized using CH* and OH* radicals. It is demonstrated that higher thermal diffusivity plays a significant role around curved regions, in which the enhanced diffusion of heat leads to a strong increase of CH* compared to OH* intensity. As an overall conclusion, this study suggests that it would be interesting to reassess the internal flame structure at lower and moderate Karlovitz numbers since changes might appear for a moderate vortex intensity with typical size much larger than the flame thickness. 相似文献

We experimentally investigate the interaction of counterpropagating discrete solitons in a one-dimensional waveguide array in photorefractive lithium niobate. While for low input powers only weak interaction and formation of counterpropagating vector solitons are observed, for higher input powers a growing instability results in discrete lateral shifting of the formed discrete solitons. Numerical modeling shows the existence of three different regimes: stable propagation of vector solitons at low power, instability for intermediate power levels leading to discrete shifting of the two discrete solitons, and an irregular temporal dynamic behavior of the two beams for high input power. 相似文献

We observe experimentally higher-order solitons in waveguide arrays with defocusing saturable nonlinearity. Such solitons can comprise several in-phase bright spots and are stable above a critical power threshold.
