We introduce a consistent variational framework for inelasticity at finite strains, yielding dual balances in physical and material space as the Euler equations. The formulation is employed for the simultaneous usage of configurational forces as both driving forces for crack propagation as well as h-adaptive mesh refinement. The theoretical basis builds upon a global balance of internal and external power, where the mechanical response is exclusively governed by two scalar functions, the free energy function and a dissipation potential. The resulting variational structure is exploited in the context of fracture mechanics and yields evolution equations for internal variables. In the discrete setting, we present a geometry model fully separated from the finite element mesh structure that represents structural changes of the material configuration due to crack propagation. Advanced meshing algorithms provide an optimal discretization at the crack tip. Local and global criteria are obtained via error estimators based on configurational forces being interpreted as indicators of an energetic misfit due to an insufficient discretization. The numerical handling is decomposed into a staggered algorithm scheme for the dual set of equilibrium equations in material and physical space and efficient mesh generation tools. Starting from the context of mathematics learning in the East and West, this paper discusses the position and role of algorithms within school mathematics and argues that learning of algorithms has suffered from an alleged dichotomy between procedures and understanding, in that algorithms have been associated with low-level cognition. The paper first introduces a broad perspective about algorithms in school mathematics, and then, partially drawing on Bloom’s taxonomy and Säljö’s categorization of learning, proposes a model for the learning of algorithms with focus on students’ cognitive development. The model consists of three cognitive levels: (1) Knowledge and Skills, (2) Understanding and Comprehension, and (3) Evaluation and Construction. The model suggests that the learning of algorithms does not simply imply a low level of cognition, and provides a new perspective and framework to analyse the learning of algorithms. Following the model, we present examples to demonstrate the three levels and discuss related teaching strategies. We propose that the model can be used as an analysis tool to reconceptualize the role of algorithms in school mathematics and pose some questions for further research and scholarly discourse in this direction.  相似文献

We consider an integrated production and distribution scheduling problem in a make-to-order business scenario. A product with a short lifespan (e.g., perishable or seasonal) is produced at a single production facility with a limited production rate. This means that the product expires in a constant time after its production is finished. Orders are received from a set of geographically dispersed customers, where a demand for the product and a time window for the delivery is associated with each customer for the planning period. A single vehicle with non-negligible traveling times between the locations is responsible for the deliveries. Due to the limited production and distribution resources, possibly not all customers may be supplied within their time windows or the lifespan. The problem consists in finding a selection of customers to be supplied such that the total satisfied demand is maximized. We extend the work by Armstrong et al. (Annals of Operations Research 159(1):395–414, 2008) on the problem for fixed delivery sequences by pointing out an error in their branch and bound algorithm and presenting a corrected variant. Furthermore, we introduce model extensions for handling delays of the production start as well as for variable production and distribution sequences. Efficient heuristic solution algorithms and computational results for randomly generated instances are presented.  相似文献

An operator Riccati equation from systems theory is considered in the case that all entries of the associated Hamiltonian are unbounded. Using a certain dichotomy property of the Hamiltonian and its symmetry with respect to two different indefinite inner products, we prove the existence of nonnegative and nonpositive solutions of the Riccati equation. This paper studies maximum likelihood estimation for a parameterised elliptic diffusion in a manifold. The focus is on asymptotic properties of maximum likelihood estimates obtained from continuous time observation. These are well known when the underlying manifold is a Euclidean space. However, no systematic study exists in the case of a general manifold. The starting point is to write down the likelihood function and equation. This is achieved using the tools of stochastic differential geometry. Consistency, asymptotic normality and asymptotic optimality of maximum likelihood estimates are then proved, under regularity assumptions. Numerical computation of maximum likelihood estimates is briefly discussed.  相似文献

The dynamics of four source–sink models for an exploited resource under a constant fishing effort are here presented. Two models are described by ordinary differential equations; the other two are expressed by impulsive differential equations systems. A continuous time growth function for the resource is assumed for each of the four model. The impulsiveness in the harvest activity among fixed seasonal closures were considered in the models expressed by impulsive differential equations. We note that all our models show the possibility of getting a sustainable resource exploitation. The results obtained using both techniques are compared. These metapopulation models suggest the convenience of considering the source patches as marine reserves, in order to preserve the renewable resources.  相似文献

We give a new and comparably short proof of Gittins’ index theorem for dynamic allocation problems of the multi-armed bandit type in continuous time under minimal assumptions. This proof gives a complete characterization of optimal allocation strategies as those policies which follow the current leader among the Gittins indices while ensuring that a Gittins index is at an all-time low whenever the associated project is not worked on exclusively. The main tool is a representation property of Gittins index processes which allows us to show that these processes can be chosen to be pathwise lower semi-continuous from the right and quasi-lower semi-continuous from the left. Both regularity properties turn out to be crucial for our characterization and the construction of optimal allocation policies.  相似文献

An adaptive pruning algorithm for the discrete L-curve criterion   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We describe a robust and adaptive implementation of the L-curve criterion. The algorithm locates the corner of a discrete L-curve which is a log–log plot of corresponding residual norms and solution norms of regularized solutions from a method with a discrete regularization parameter (such as truncated SVD or regularizing CG iterations). Our algorithm needs no predefined parameters, and in order to capture the global features of the curve in an adaptive fashion, we use a sequence of pruned L-curves that correspond to considering the curves at different scales. We compare our new algorithm to existing algorithms and demonstrate its robustness by numerical examples.  相似文献
