The voluminous utilization and application of plate and frame heat exchangers (PFHE) in many industries has accelerated the consumer and designer both to optimize exchanger total cost. Over the last few years, several old and new generation algorithms were employed and exploited to optimize PFHE cost. This study explores the application and performance of three new-generation algorithms Big Bang-Big Crunch (BBBC), Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO), and Water Evaporation Optimization (WEO) in designing optimally PFHE. Besides, this study also compares the performance of three well-established old generations algorithms namely genetic algorithm (genetics and natural selection), particle swarm optimization (animals behaviour), and differential evolution (population-based) with the above three new algorithms in the optimization of PFHE.Seven design factors are chosen for PFHE optimization: exchanger length on hot and cold sides, height and thickness of fin, length of the fin-strip, fin frequency, and the number of hot side layers. The applicability of the suggested algorithms is assessed using a case study based on published research. Though DE performs the best in this study of design optimization concerning total cost and computational time, the three new-generation meta-heuristic algorithms BBBC, GWO, and WEO also provide the novel scope of application in heat exchanger design optimization and successfully finding the cost of the heat exchanger. According to this study, capital costs increase by 19.5% for BBBC, 24% for GWO, and 7.6% for GWO, but operational costs fall by 9.5% for BBBC and GWO when compared to the best performing algorithm (DE). On the other hand, WEO shows an increase of 32.6% in operational costs. Aside from that, a full analysis of the computing time for each algorithm is also provided. The DE has the quickest run time of 0.09 ?s, while the PSO takes the longest at 33.97 ?s. The rest of the algorithms have nearly identical values. As a result, a good comparison is established in this study, offering an excellent platform for designers and customers to make selections. Additionally, the three new generations algorithms mentioned here were not used earlier for optimization of PFHE and the comparative study illustrates that each of them possesses eat potential for cost optimization and also solving other complex problems. 相似文献

Computational drug design is increasingly becoming important with new and unforeseen diseases like COVID-19. In this study, we present a new computational de novo drug design and repurposing method and applied it to find plausible drug candidates for the receptor binding domain (RBD) of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). Our study comprises three steps: atom-by-atom generation of new molecules around a receptor, structural similarity mapping to existing approved and investigational drugs, and validation of their binding strengths to the viral spike proteins based on rigorous all-atom, explicit-water well-tempered metadynamics free energy calculations. By choosing the receptor binding domain of the viral spike protein, we showed that some of our new molecules and some of the repurposable drugs have stronger binding to RBD than hACE2. To validate our approach, we also calculated the free energy of hACE2 and RBD, and found it to be in an excellent agreement with experiments. The synthesis of a molecule containing hypericin and luciferin moieties joined by a tether is reported. The light-induced (in vitro) antiviral activity as well as the photophysical properties of this new compound are measured and compared with those of the parent compounds, hypericin and pseudohypericin. This tethered molecule exhibits excited-state behavior that is very similar to that of its parent compounds and antiviral activity that is identical, within experimental error, to that of its more closely related parent compound, pseudohypericin. Poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and its salt poly(acrylate) (PA) have been synthesized through modified free radical polymerization in environmentally begin aqueous medium under ultrasound to make the process robust. The synthesized polymer is well-characterized through conventional techniques. Its salt is employed to produce highly stable and stimuli sensitive colloidal silver (Ag-PA sol) without using any additional reducing chemical reagents like sodium borohydride, ascorbic acid, hydrazine, etc or UV/Gamma radiation. A detailed mechanistic path of the polymerization and reduction of Ag+ on polyacrylate chains has been evaluated. Finally Ag-PA sol is used for pH sensing through naked eye to eliminate the need for sophisticated instrument for data collection. The present work focuses mainly the development of a low cost pH sensing system based on colorimetric ‘smart polymer’ having high practical utility. The unique structural and photo-physical features of nano-scaled materials open new opportunities for the applications of colorimetric pH sensor. The transport behavior of toluene and n-hexane in gamma-alumina membranes with different pore diameters was studied. It was shown that the permeability of water-lean hexane and toluene is in agreement with Darcy's law down to membrane pore diameters of 3.5 nm. The presence of molar water fractions of 5-8 x 10(-4) in these solvents led to a permeability decrease of the gamma-alumina layer by a factor of 2-4 depending on pore size. In general, a lower permeability was found for hexane than for toluene. Moreover, in the presence of water a minimum applied pressure of 0.5-1.5 bar was required to induce net liquid flow through the membrane. These phenomena were interpreted in terms of capillary condensation of water in membrane pores with a size below a certain critical diameter. This is thought to lead to substantial blocking of these pores for transport, so that the effective tortuosity of the membrane for transport of hydrophobic solvents increases. 相似文献

An effective anion sensor, [Ru(II)(bpy)(2)(H(2)L(-))](+) (1(+)), based on a redox and photoactive {Ru(II)(bpy)(2)} moiety and a new ligand (H(3)L = 5-(1H-benzo[d]imidazol-2-yl)-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylic acid), has been developed for selective recognition of fluoride (F(-)) and acetate (OAc(-)) ions. Crystal structures of the free ligand, H(3)L and [1](ClO(4)) reveal the existence of strong intramolecular and intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions. The structure of [1](ClO(4)) shows that the benzimidazole N-H of H(2)L(-) is hydrogen bonded with the pendant carboxylate oxygen while the imidazole N-H remains free for possible hydrogen bonding interaction with the anions. The potential anion sensing features of 1(+) have been studied by different experimental and theoretical (DFT) investigations using a wide variety of anions, such as F(-), Cl(-), Br(-), I(-), HSO(4)(-), H(2)PO(4)(-), OAc(-) and SCN(-). Cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry established that 1(+) is an excellent electrochemical sensor for the selective recognition of F(-) and OAc(-) anions. 1(+) is also found to be a selective colorimetric sensor for F(-) or OAc(-) anions where the MLCT band of the receptor at 498 nm is red shifted to 538 nm in the presence of one equivalent of F(-) or OAc(-) with a distinct change in colour from reddish-orange to pink. The binding constant between 1(+) and F(-) or OAc(-) has been determined to be logK = 7.61 or 7.88, respectively, based on spectrophotometric titration in CH(3)CN. The quenching of the emission band of 1(+) at 716 nm (λ(ex) = 440 nm, Φ = 0.01 at 298 K in CH(3)CN) in the presence of one equivalent of F(-) or OAc(-), as well as two distinct lifetimes of the quenched and unquenched forms of the receptor 1(+), makes it also a suitable fluorescence-based sensor. All the above experiments, in combination with (1)H NMR, suggest the formation of a 1:1 adduct between the receptor (1(+)) and the anion (F(-) or OAc(-)). The formation of 1:1 adduct {[1(+)·F(-)] or [1(+)·OAc(-)]} has been further evidenced by in situ ESI-MS(+) in CH(3)CN. Though the receptor, 1(+), is comprised of two N-H protons associated with the coordinated H(2)L(-) ligand, only the free imidazole N-H proton participates in the hydrogen bonding interactions with the incoming anions, while the intramolecularly hydrogen bonded benzimidazole N-H proton remains intact as evidenced by the crystal structure of the final product (1). The hydrogen bond mediated anion sensing mechanism, over the direct deprotonation pathway, in 1(+) has been further justified by a DFT study and subsequent NBO analysis. 相似文献

Free energy of mixing of cross-linked polymer blends is derived, as a modification to the Flory-Huggins-de Gennes free energy functional for linear polymer blends. The latter arrives from the assumption of mean-field, short-range thermal interactions among ideal Gaussian chains. However, upon cross-linking a linear chain, the chain no longer remains Gaussian; new chain architectures belying the threadlike image of linear chains emerge. Fractal dimensions of these nonlinear chain clusters convene and command new entropic interactions. Topological constraints by cross-links introduce long-range nonequilibrium elastic forces. Relatively shorter range steric repulsions between fractal network surfaces may arrive if cross-linking is carried out inside the blend's thermodynamically unstable region.
