Contact <Emphasis Type="Italic">CR</Emphasis>-Submanifolds of an Odd-Dimensional Unit Sphere

We study an (n+1)(n≥ 3)-dimensional contact CR-submanifold of (n−1) contact CR-dimension in a (2m+1)-unit sphere S^2m+1, and especially determine such submanifolds under the equality conditions appearing in (3.12). We also provide a sufficient condition in order for such a compact submanifold to be the model space given in the last Section 4.     

Minimization of wafer bowing in GaN-based vertical light-emitting diodes by selective area growth using metal-organic chemical vapor deposition

The effect of selective area growth (SAG) on wafer bowing of GaN-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) is investigated. The SAG of LED structures was carried out on a silicon dioxide (SiO₂) mask pattern with periodic 1000×1000 μm openings, along the sapphire 〈1?1 0 0〉 and 〈?1?1 2 0〉 directions. The morphology of a selectively-grown n-GaN epilayer was examined in relation to various growth parameters such as temperature, pressure, and V/III ratio. Under optimized growth conditions, formation of a ridge-shaped epilayer with a v-pit free smooth surface was realized. Furthermore, the ridge-shaped vertical LED structure, after the removal of the sapphire substrate by laser lift-off (LLO) showed less wafer bowing compared with conventional vertical LED structures. This is attributed to the suppression of lateral strain and dislocations during the site-selective growth process, due to a reduction in the lateral dimensions.     

Cyclic diarylheptanoids inhibit cell-mediated low-density lipoprotein oxidation

Two cyclic diarylheptanoids, garugamblin-3 (1) and acerogenin L (2), isolated from the MeOH extract of the fruits of Alnus japonica Steud., inhibited human low-density lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation in the thiobarbituric acid-reactive substance assay with IC50 values of 2.9 and 1.7 microM, respectively, and they also inhibited cell-mediated LDL oxidation more than five times more strongly than that of a well-known antioxidant, probucol, at a concentration of 10 microM. 1 had no effect on the anti-atherogenesis in low-density lipoprotein receptor- deficient mice.     

Maintenance of CD8+ T-cell anergy by CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells in chronic graft-versus-host disease

In a murine model of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)-like chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD), donor CD8+ T cells rapidly fall into anergy to host cells, while donor CD4+ T cells hyperactivate B cells and break B-cell tolerance to self-Ags in the recipient mouse. The functional recovery of donor CD8+ T cells can result in the conversion of cGVHD to acute GVHD (aGVHD), indicating that donor CD8+ T-cell anergy is a restriction factor in the development of cGVHD. In this report, we present evidence that donor CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells (Treg cells) are critical in maintaining the donor CD8+ T-cell anergy and thus suppressing the development of aGVHD in mice that are naturally prone to cGVHD. Our results provide a novel insight into the role of Treg cells in determining cGVHD versus aGVHD.

Improved delay-dependent exponential stability for uncertain stochastic neural networks with time-varying delays

This Letter investigates the problem of delay-dependent exponential stability analysis for uncertain stochastic neural networks with time-varying delay. Based on the Lyapunov stability theory, improved delay-dependent exponential stability criteria for the networks are established in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).     

Preparation and characterization of carbamoylphosphonate(CMPO) silane grafted on various mesoporous silicas

The carbamoylphosphosphonate silane (CMPO analogue; 2-(diphenylphosphoryl)-N-(3-(triethoxysilyl)propyl) acetamide) modified mesoporous silica was prepared via a post-synthesis grafting method for the effective purification of rare earth elements. The guest CMPO analogue was synthesized by direct coupling reaction of 2-(diphenylphosphoryl) acetic acid and 3-(triethoxysilyl)propan-1-amine. Various mesoporous silicates such as MCM-41, SBA-15, or amorphous silica nanoparticles were adopted as host materials. The resulting surface-modified mesoporous materials were characterized with respect to their structural integrity, surface area, and pore size and the concentration of the CMPO silane species. These CMPO functionalized periodic mesostructured silicates offer the potential of applications as catalysts, sensors, or environmental sorbents.     

Observation of B(s)(0) → D(s)(*)+ D(s)(*)- using e+ e- collisions and a determination of the B(s)-B(s) width difference ΔΓ(s)

We have made the first observation of B(s)(0)→D(s)(*)+ D(s)(*)- decays using 23.6 fb(-1) of data recorded by the Belle experiment running on the Υ(5S) resonance. The branching fractions are measured to be B(B(s)(0)→D(s)+ D(s)-)=(1.03(-0.32-0.25)(+0.39+0.26))%, B(B(s)(0)→D(s)(*±) D(s)(?))=(2.75(-0.71)(+0.83)±0.69)%, and B(B(s)(0)→D(s)*+ D(s)*-)=(3.08(-1.04-0.86)(+1.22+0.85))%; the sum is B[B(s)(0)→D(s)(*)+ D(s)(*)-]=(6.85(-1.30-1.80)(+1.53+1.79))%. Assuming B(s)(0)→D(s)(*)+ D(s)(*)- saturates decays to CP-even final states, the branching fraction determines the ratio ΔΓ(s)/cosφ, where ΔΓ(s) is the difference in widths between the two B(s)-B(s) mass eigenstates, and φ is a CP-violating weak phase. Taking CP violation to be negligibly small, we obtain ΔΓ(s)/Γ(s)=0.147(-0.030)(+0.036)(stat)(-0.041)(+0.042)(syst), where Γ(s) is the mean decay width.     

Orbital stability of solitary waves for derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation

In this paper, we show the orbital stability of solitons arising in the cubic derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equations. We consider the zero mass case that is not covered by earlier works. As this case enjoys L² scaling invariance, we expect orbital stability (up to scaling symmetry) in addition to spatial and phase translations. We also show a self-similar type blow up criterion of solutions with the critical mass 4π.
