Gerstenhaber and Rauch proposed the problem of constructing the Teichmüller map by a maximum-minimum approach involving harmonic maps. In this paper, we show that the Teichmüller map can be constructed by this variational characterization. A new method for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of an intracerebral hormone, such as melatonin, has been proposed, utilizing newly designed copolymers that include ion-exchange groups. These copolymers responded to both the temperature and the pH, and the copolymers were modified with cross-linked hydrogel applied onto aminopropyl silica beads. The products were evaluated as HPLC packing materials for a pH- and temperature-responsive chromatography. The property of the surface of the stationary phase was altered from hydrophilic to hydrophobic, and from charged to non-charged by changes in both the temperature and the pH. In the chromatographic system, we investigated how to change the retention of melatonin by varying the temperature. A pH- and temperature-responsive chromatography is expected to be useful for the separation of pharmaceuticals and biomolecules. 相似文献

Landauer’s principle provides a fundamental lower bound for energy dissipation occurring with information erasure in the quantum regime. While most studies have related the entropy reduction incorporated with the erasure to the lower bound (entropic bound), recent efforts have also provided another lower bound associated with the thermal fluctuation of the dissipated energy (thermodynamic bound). The coexistence of the two bounds has stimulated comparative studies of their properties; however, these studies were performed for systems where the time-evolution of diagonal (population) and off-diagonal (coherence) elements of the density matrix are decoupled. In this paper, we aimed to broaden the comparative study to include the influence of quantum coherence induced by the tilted system–reservoir interaction direction. By examining their dependence on the initial state of the information-bearing system, we find that the following properties of the bounds are generically held regardless of whether the influence of the coherence is present or not: the entropic bound serves as the tighter bound for a sufficiently mixed initial state, while the thermodynamic bound is tighter when the purity of the initial state is sufficiently high. The exception is the case where the system dynamics involve only phase relaxation; in this case, the two bounds coincide when the initial coherence is zero; otherwise, the thermodynamic bound serves the tighter bound. We also find the quantum information erasure inevitably accompanies constant energy dissipation caused by the creation of system–reservoir correlation, which may cause an additional source of energetic cost for the erasure. 相似文献

The heme acquisition system A protein secreted by Pseudomonas aeruginosa (HasAp) can capture several synthetic metal complexes other than heme. The crystal structures of HasAp harboring synthetic metal complexes revealed only small perturbation of the overall HasAp structure. An inhibitory effect upon heme acquisition by HasAp bearing synthetic metal complexes was examined by monitoring the growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1. HasAp bound to iron–phthalocyanine inhibits heme acquisition in the presence of heme‐bound HasAp as an iron source. 相似文献

2,5‐Dibromo‐3‐(6′‐hexylpyridine‐2′‐yl)thiophene ( DBPyTh ) was synthesized by the Suzuki coupling reaction between two aromatic compounds followed by the bromination. The Grignard metathesis reaction of DBPyTh with isopropylmagnesium chloride proceeded in 85% conversion and the regioselective halogen–metal exchange at the 2‐position was confirmed. Namely, 5‐bromo‐2‐chloromagnesio‐3‐(6′‐hexylpyridine‐2′‐yl)thiophene and 2‐bromo‐5‐chloromagnesio‐3‐(6′‐hexylpyridine‐2′‐yl)thiophene were generated in 90:10 molar ratio. Subsequently, the Kumada coupling polymerization was carried out using 1,3‐bis(diphenylphosphinopropane)nickel(II) dichloride to obtain poly(3‐(6′‐hexylpyridine‐2′‐yl)thiophene) ( PolyPyTh ). The polymer molecular weight could be roughly controlled by the catalyst concentration and the molecular weight distribution ranged from 1.25 to 1.80. The gas chromatograph analysis indicated that 5‐bromo‐2‐chloromagnesio‐3‐(6′‐hexylpyridine‐2′‐yl)thiophene was preferentially polymerized in 90% conversion and the percentage of the head‐to‐tail content (regioregularity) was calculated to be 96%. The matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization time‐of‐fright mass spectrum indicated that both polymer chain ends were substituted with the hydrogen atom. The absorption maxima of polymer in CHCl3 and thin film were observed at 447 and 457 nm, respectively, which were blue‐shifted compared with poly(3‐(4′‐octylphenyl)thiophene). From the CV measurement of the polymer thin film, highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) (?5.31 eV) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) (?3.76 eV) energy levels were calculated from the oxidation and reduction onset potentials, respectively, and the electrochemical band gap energy was determined to be 1.62 eV. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
