Nanoparticles for conservation of bio-calcarenite stone   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
In the present study, the consolidation effectiveness of some inorganic nanoparticles dispersions (silica, calcium hydroxide, and strontium hydroxide) has been evaluated when applied on a very porous stone substrate, i.e., Lecce stone. The strengthening effect of the nanoparticle-based treatments was compared to that exhibited by the well-known consolidant tetraethoxysilane. Ca(OH)2 and Sr(OH)2 nanoparticles were prepared in laboratory and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The kinetic stability of nanoparticles dispersions was determined by UV-vis spectrophotometric studies. Moreover, the study of the nanolime carbonatation process was carried out using FTIR spectroscopy. Distribution of the applied product into the stone substrate was examined by SEM-EDS. The chemical weathering effect of salt crystallization of the treated specimens was evaluated by performing the dry weight loss (DWL) test. All the results suggested that Ca(OH)2 and Sr(OH)2 nanoparticles, applied as 2-propanol dispersions, display some good properties as consolidating agents for a very porous bio-calcarenite such as Lecce stone.  相似文献

This study reported the antimicrobial activity and phenolic content of natural site and micropropagated Limonium avei (De Not.) Brullo & Erben inflorescences. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) of ethanolic extracts were determined according to the Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute guidelines. Individual phenolic acids and flavonoids were detected by a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC-DAD) method. The samples showed a comparable antimicrobial activity, although the natural site extract possessed the lower MIC values. The best activity was detected against Gram-positive bacteria, such as Staphylococcus aureus including methicillin resistant strains (MIC and MBC values ranging from 7.81 to 62.50?μg?mL(-1) and from 500 to 2000?μg?mL(-1) respectively). In contrast, a low activity was found on Gram-negative bacteria and Candida albicans. The HPLC-DAD analysis revealed ten phenolic acids and four flavonoids with a major amount of m-coumaric acid, naringin and quercetin in the natural site extract.  相似文献

This study describes the characterization of the glycan moieties and the peptide backbone of six glycoforms of IB-8a CON1(+), a basic proline-rich protein present in human saliva. MS analyses on the intact glycoproteins before and after N-deglycosylation with PNGase F and high-resolution MS/MS sequencing by LTQ Orbitrap XL of peptides and glycopeptides from tryptic digests allowed the structural characterization of the glycan moieties and the polypeptide backbone, as well as to establish the glycosylation site at the asparagine residue at 98th position. Five of the glycoforms carry a biantennary N-linked glycan fucosylated in the innermost N-acetylglucosamine of the core and showing from zero to four additional fucoses in the antennal region. The sixth glycoform carries a monoantennary monofucosylated oligosaccharide. The glycoform cluster was detected on 28 of 71 adult saliva specimens. Level of fucosylation showed interindividual variability with the major relative abundance for the trifucosylated glycoform. Nonglycosylated IB-8a CON1(+) and the variant IB-8a CON1(-), lacking of the glycosylation site, have been also detected in human saliva.  相似文献

Headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) comprehensive two-dimensional (2D) gas chromatography combined with quadrupole-mass spectrometry (GC×GC-qMS) with dedicated comparative data elaboration was applied to separate chemical patterns arising from the interaction between some Mentha species and the herbivore Chrysolina herbacea, also known as the mint bug. Upon feeding on different Mentha species (Mentha spicata L., Mentha × piperita L. and Mentha longifolia L.), C. herbacea produced frass (faeces) which were characterized by a typical volatile fraction. HS-SPME GC×GC-qMS analysis of the complex volatile fraction of both mint leaf and C. herbacea frass was submitted to advanced fingerprinting analysis of 2D chromatographic data. 1,8-Cineole, found in the leaves of all the Mentha species examined, was oxidized, and C. herbacea frass yielded high rates of several hydroxy-1,8-cineoles, including 2α-hydroxy-, 3α-hydroxy-, 3β-hydroxy- and 9-hydroxy-1,8-cineole. Upon insect feeding, several unknown oxidized monoterpenes, a p-menthane diol and three unknown phenylpropanoids were also detected in the frass volatiles. In M. longifolia, the occurrence of the monoterpene piperitenone oxide was found to be toxic and associated with insect death. The results of this work show that high throughput techniques such as HS-SPME and GC×GC-qMS fingerprint analysis are ideal tools to analyze complex volatile matrices, and provide a sensitive method for the direct comparison and chemical visualization of plant and insect emitted volatile components.  相似文献

The native state of a globular protein is essential for its biocatalytic function, but is marginally stable against unfolding. While unfolding equilibria are often reversible, folding intermediates and misfolds can promote irreversible protein aggregation into amorphous precipitates or highly ordered amyloid states. Addition of ionic liquids-low-melting organic salts-offers intriguing prospects for stabilizing native proteins and their enzymatic function against these deactivating reaction channels. The huge number of cations and anions that form ionic liquids allows fine-tuning of their solvent properties, which offers robust and efficient strategies for solvent optimization. Going beyond case-by-case studies, this article aims at discussing principles for a rational design of ionic liquid-based formulations in protein chemistry and biocatalysis.  相似文献

Iron oxide is a key multi-functional material in many different fields of modern technology. The β-Fe(2)O(3) cubic phase, one of the least studied Fe-O systems, was obtained by Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) using for the first time a Fe(II) β-diketonate diamine complex, Fe(hfa)(2)·TMEDA, as the molecular source (hfa = 1,1,1,5,5,5-hexafluoro-2,4-pentanedionate; TMEDA = N,N,N',N'-tetramethylethylenediamine). The strong visible light absorption of β-Fe(2)O(3) deposits highlights their possible functional application in photocatalytic hydrogen production under solar light. A comprehensive investigation on the Fe(ii) complex, performed by a joint experimental-theoretical approach, explains the molecular origin of its excellent thermal behaviour and reveals why this species is a successful precursor for the CVD of iron oxide nanostructures.  相似文献

The reactivity of [Rh(CO)2{(R,R)‐Ph? BPE}]BF4 ( 2 ) toward amine, CO and/or H2 was examined by high‐pressure NMR and IR spectroscopy. The two cationic pentacoordinated species [Rh(CO)3{(R,R)‐Ph? BPE}]BF4 ( 4 ) and [Rh(CO)2(NHC5H10){(R,R)‐Ph‐BPE}]BF4 ( 8 ) were identified. The transformation of 2 into the neutral complex [RhH(CO)2{(R,R)‐Ph? BPE}] ( 3 ) under hydroaminomethylation conditions (CO/H2, amine) was investigated. The full mechanisms related to the formation of 3 , 4 and 8 starting from 2 are supported by DFT calculations. In particular, the pathway from 2 to 3 revealed the deprotonation by the amine of the dihydride species [Rh(H)2(CO)2{(R,R)‐Ph? BPE}]BF4 ( 6 ), resulting from the oxidative addition of H2 on 2 .  相似文献

Anchoring terminal octenyl tails on molecular polyoxotungstates yield polymerizable organic–inorganic monomers with formula [{CH2?CH(CH2)6Si}xOySiWwOz]4? [x=2, w=11, y=1, z=39 ( 1 ); x=2, w=10, y=1, z=36 ( 2 ); and x=4, w=9, y=3, z=34 ( 3 )]. These molecular hybrids can use aqueous hydrogen peroxide to catalyze the selective oxidation of organic sulfides in CH3CN. Copolymerization of 1 – 3 with methyl methacrylate and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate leads to porous materials with a homogeneous distribution of the functional monomers, as indicated by converging evidence from FTIR spectroscopy and electronic microscopy. The catalytic polymers activate hydrogen peroxide for oxygen transfer, as demonstrated by the quantitative and selective oxidation of methyl p‐tolyl sulfide, which was screened as model substrate. The hybrid material containing monomer 2 was also tested in n‐octane to evaluate its potential for the oxidation and removal of dibenzothiophene, a well‐known gasoline contaminant.  相似文献
