Synthesis of aminomethyl and amino analogs of 5-benzylacyclouridine and 5-benzyloxybenzylacyclouridine

Amino analogs of BAU (5-benzylacyclouridine) and BBAU (5-benzyloxybenzylacyclouridine) and their 2′-hydroxymethyl derivatives were synthesized for evaluation as inhibitors of uridine phosphorylase and hence potential cancer chemotherapeutic agents. Both aminomethyl analogs were found to be potent inhibitors of this enzyme and good potentiators of the anti-tumor action of FUdR.     

The key factors in fabrication of high-quality ordered macroporous copper film

The template-directed fabrication of highly-ordered porous film is of significant importance in implementation of the photonic band gap structure. The paper reports a simple and effective method to improve the electrodeposition of metal porous film by utilizing highly-ordered polystyrene spheres (PSs) template. By surface-modification method, the hydrophobic property of the PSs template surfaces was changed into hydrophilic one. It was demonstrated that the surface modification process enhanced the permeability of the electrolyte solution in the nanometer-sized voids of the colloidal template. The homogeneously deposited copper film with the highly-ordered voids in size of less than 500 nm was successfully obtained. In addition, it was found that large defects, such as microcracks in the template, strongly influenced the macroporous films quality. An obvious preferential growth in the cracked area was observed.     

Efficient synthesis of a series of novel fructose-based 3-acetyl-5-alkyl-2,3-dihydro-1,3,4-oxadiazole derivatives and studies of the reaction mechanism

A series of novel alkyl substituted fructose-based oxadiazoles were synthesized and their cytotoxic activities toward tumor cells were investigated. We studied the reaction mechanism and the stereochemistry of the reaction. Tautomerization between isomers 2 and 3 was observed in solution. The tautomerization was accelerated by heating or in the presence of acetic acid. An intermediate 6 during the heterocyclization was isolated, and two different pathways for the heterocyclization were suggested. On the basis of these findings, an efficient method, with the assistance of microwave irradiation was developed for the synthesis of 4 and 5. The yields were satisfactory and no by-products were found. We also proposed that the (R/S)-configurations of oxadiazoles were determined by the E/Z configurations of hydrazones.     

SDS-PAGE study on photooxidation damage of lysozyme induced by riboflavin

The photooxidation damage of lysozyme under 315-375 nm irradiation in the presence of riboflavin was studied by using sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(SDS-PAGE).Indica- tions showed that the mechanisms and products of oxidative damage were relative to the concentra- tion of riboflavin,the time of irradiation and the ambience.The type I process was examined in a nitrogen saturated solution,whereas both type I and type II were observed in an aerobic atmosphere and type II was the dominant process.The study also suggested that antioxidants,such as melatonin, can reduce the damage of lysozyme effectively.     

Widely and continuously tunable optical parametric generator based on MgO-doped periodically poled LiNbO3 crystal

A widely and continuously tunable optical parametric generator (OPG) pumped by a 1064-nm acoustooptically Q-switched diode-end-pumped Nd:YAG laser based on MgO-doped periodically poled LiNbO3 crystal with a multigrating structure (29.2-30.4 μm) is reported.A broad continuous signal spectrum of 1513-1700 nm is obtained by changing the crystal grating periods from 29.2 to 30.4μm and by tuning the crystal temperature from 30 to 180 ℃ simultaneously.When the average pump power is 1.82 W with pulse duration of about 70 ns operating at a repetition rate of 10 kHz,the maximum signal output power of the periodically poled MgO-doped lithium niobate (PPMgLN) OPG is about 210 mW corresponding to the idler and total powers of 118.4 and 328.4 mW respectively.
