The title Lasso has been suggested by Tibshirani (1996) as acolourful name for a technique of variable selection which requiresthe minimization of a sum of squares subject to an l1 bound on the solution. This forces zero components in the minimizingsolution for small values of . Thus this bound can functionas a selection parameter. This paper makes two contributionsto computational problems associated with implementing the Lasso:(1) a compact descent method for solving the constrained problemfor a particular value of is formulated, and (2) a homotopymethod, in which the constraint bound becomes the homotopyparameter, is developed to completely describe the possibleselection regimes. Both algorithms have a finite terminationproperty. It is suggested that modified Gram-Schmidt orthogonalizationapplied to an augmented design matrix provides an effectivebasis for implementing the algorithms. 相似文献

In nitrite-treated cytochrome cd1 nitrite reductase, heme d1 is electron paramagnetic resonance silent but paramagnetic. Analysis of the unusual temperature dependence of the magnetic circular dichroism spectra unambiguously demonstrates that the heme d1 is not in the oxoferryl (FeIV=O) state but is low-spin FeIII weakly coupled to a radical species. This species could be either a protein-bound radical generated by a nitrite ion reacting with a heme group resulting in a one-electron oxidation of an amino acid residue, possibly tyrosine or tryptophan, adjacent to heme d1, or a heme d1 FeIIINO complex. 相似文献

In the present study, siderophore produced by the marine yeast Aureobasidium pullulans was characterized as hydroxamate by chemical and bioassays. The hydroxamate assignment was supported by the appearance of peaks at 1,647.21?C1,625.99?cm?1 and at 1,435.04?cm?1 in the infrared spectrum. The purified siderophore exhibited specific growth-promoting activity under iron-limited conditions for siderophore auxotrophic probiotic bacteria. Cross-utilization of siderophore indicates a symbiotic relationship between the yeast A. pullulans and the selected probiotic bacterial strains. Statistical optimization of medium components for improved siderophore production in A. pullulans was depicted by response surface methodology. The shift in UV?CVis spectroscopy indicates the photoreactive property and subsequent oxidative cleavage of purified siderophore on exposure to sunlight. 相似文献

The preparation of transition-metal thiolato complexes as synthetic biomimics1 has led to a resurgent interest in the synthesis of organic thiols and their derivatives. The compound 2,2′-dimercaptobiphenyl, 1, offers interesting possibilities as a ligand, and it has been used recently to displace iron-sulfur clusters from low molecular-weight Fe-S proteins.2 The two previous preparations for 1 require a coupling reaction of diazonium salts.3,4 Overall yields of 10%3 and 30%4 are made even less attractive by the need to precipitate copper by-products with H2S after the coupling step. 相似文献

We compare the results of small angle neutron scattering on the flux line lattice (FLL) obtained in the borocarbide superconductor
LuNi2B2C with the applied field along the c- and a-axes. For H‖c the temperature dependence of the FLL structural phase transition from square to hexagonal symmetry was investigated. Above

2(T), rises sharply, bending away from H
c2(T) in contradiction to theoretical predictions of the two merging. For H‖a a first order FLL reorientation transition is observed at H
tr=3–3.5 kOe. Below H
tr the FLL nearest neighbor direction is parallel to the b-axis, and above H

Recent studies of the relation between loudness and intensity difference limens (DLs) suggest that, if two tones of the same frequency are equally loud, they will have equal relative DLs [R. S. Schlauch and C.C. Wier, J. Speech Hear. Res. 30, 13-20 (1987); J.J. Zwislocki and H.N. Jordan, J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 79, 772-780 (1986)]. To test this hypothesis, loudness matches and intensity DLs for a 1000-Hz pure tone in quiet and in a 40-dB SPL spectrum level broadband noise were obtained for four subjects with normal hearing. The DLs were obtained in both gated- and continuous-pedestal conditions. Contrary to previous reports, equally loud tones do not yield equal relative DLs at several midintensities in the gated condition and at many intensities in the continuous condition. While the equal-loudness, equal-relative-DL hypothesis is not supported by the data, the relation between loudness and intensity discrimination appears to be well described by a model reported by Houtsma et al. [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 68, 807-813 (1980)]. 相似文献
