Bis(imino)pyridine palladium(II) complexes as efficient catalysts for the Suzuki–Miyaura reaction in water

Bis(imino)pyridine palladium(II) complexes 3 and 4 of type [PdCl(L)PF₆] are found to be efficient catalysts for Suzuki–Miyaura reactions of aryl halides and arylboronic acids. The reactions proceed smoothly to generate the corresponding biaryl compounds in moderate to excellent yields. The synthesis of various fluorinated biphenyl derivatives was successfully achieved by the complex 4 catalyzed the Suzuki–Miyaura reaction in the presence of surfactants bearing a long alkyl chain. Error Bounds: Necessary and Sufficient Conditions

The paper presents a general classification scheme of necessary and sufficient criteria for the error bound property incorporating the existing conditions. Several derivative-like objects both from the primal as well as from the dual space are used to characterize the error bound property of extended-real-valued functions on a Banach space.     

Thermal and pH‐sensitive gold nanoparticles from H‐shaped block copolymers of (PNIPAM/PDMAEMA)‐b‐PEG‐b‐(PNIPAM/PDMAEMA)

Well‐defined H‐shaped pentablock copolymers composed of poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM), poly(N,N‐dimethylaminoethylacrylamide) (PDMAEMA), and poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) with the chain architecture of (A/B)‐b‐C‐b‐(A/B) were synthesized by the combination of single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization, atom‐transfer radical polymerization, and click chemistry. Single‐electron‐transfer living radical polymerization of NIPAM using α,ω azide‐capped PEG macroinitiator resulted in PNIPAM‐b‐PEG‐b‐PNIPAM with azide groups at the block joints. Atom‐transfer radical polymerization of DMAEMA initiated by propargyl 2‐chloropropionate gave out α‐capped alkyne‐PDMAEMA. The H‐shaped copolymers were finally obtained by the click reaction between PNIPAM‐b‐PEG‐b‐PNIPAM and alkyne‐PDMAEMA. These copolymers were used to prepare stable colloidal gold nanoparticles (GNPs) in aqueous solution without any external reducing agent. The formation of GNPs was affected by the length of PDMAEMA block, the feed ratio of the copolymer to HAuCl₄, and the pH value. The surface plasmon absorbance of these obtained GNPs also exhibited pH and thermal dependence because of the existence of PNIAPM and PDAMEMA blocks. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We give a geometrical proof of a Muhometov type inequality, for a single Riemannian metric defined on a closed disc in the plane. We mainly study the case of equality which is achieved if and only if the distance between points on the boundary is invariant under rotation along the boundary. We show that this implies that the metric itself must be invariant under rotation, at least when the metric is analytic or of nonpositive curvature.
