GA optimization on multi-segments muffler under space constraints

Whilst the space volume of muffler in noise control system is often constrained for maintenance in practical engineering work, the maximization on muffler’s performance becomes important and essential. In this paper, a novel approach genetic algorithms (GAs) based on the principles of natural biological evolution will be used to tackle this optimization of muffler design [M. Mitchell, An Introduction to Genetic Algorithms, The MIT Press, Cambridge, MA, 1996]. Here, the shape optimization of multi-segments muffler coupled with the GA searching technique is presented. The techniques of binary genetic algorithms (BGA) together with the commercial MATLAB package [G. Lindfield, J. Penny, Numerical Method Using Matlab, second ed., Prentice Hall, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, 2000] are applied in GA searching. In addition, a numerical case of pure tone elimination with 2-5 segments on muffler is introduced and fully discussed. To achieve the best optimization in GA, several GA parameters are on trial in various values. Results show that the GA operators, including crossover mutation and elitism, are essential in accuracy. Consequently, results verify that the optimal sound transmission loss at the designed frequency of 500 Hz is exactly maximized. The GA optimization on multi-segments muffler proposed in this study surely provides a quick and correct approach.     

2‐connected 7‐coverings of 3‐connected graphs on surfaces

An m‐covering of a graph G is a spanning subgraph of G with maximum degree at most m. In this paper, we shall show that every 3‐connected graph on a surface with Euler genus k ≥ 2 with sufficiently large representativity has a 2‐connected 7‐covering with at most 6k ? 12 vertices of degree 7. We also construct, for every surface F² with Euler genus k ≥ 2, a 3‐connected graph G on F² with arbitrarily large representativity each of whose 2‐connected 7‐coverings contains at least 6k ? 12 vertices of degree 7. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Analysis of CCD moiré pattern for micro-range measurements using the wavelet transform

A new approach based on the moiré theory and wavelet transform (WT) is proposed for measuring the micro-range distance between a charge-couple-device (CCD) camera and a two-dimensional reference grating. The micro-range distance is determined by measuring the pitch of the moiré pattern image, which is digitized by a CCD camera. A one-dimensional WT algorithm is applied to estimate the pitch of the moiré pattern. Experimental results prove that this technique is very efficient and highly accurate. The moiré range finder is an economic technique for measuring a micro-range distance.     

Li(AlxCo1-x)O2晶体中Co3+电子态的变化及对结构演化的影响

研究了应用于锂二次电池正极的新型高能量密度存贮材料Li(AlxCo1-x)O2 (x=01—05)的磁性.发现Al3+的掺杂可导致Co3+中d电子自旋态发生变化，即有部分d电子进入高自旋态.伴随Co3+中电子状态的改变，材料结构演化也发生了相应变化，表现为c/a比增大明显减缓，较好地解释了材料结构对Vegard定律的正偏离.这对材料的微观结构与性能设计具有重要意义. 关键词： 锂电池材料 Li（AlxCo1-x）O2 磁性 自旋态 结构演化     

Simple and efficient cleavage reaction of the boc group in heterocyclic compounds

Dedicated to the memory of Pr. Ladjama Daif A series of chiral cyclosulfamides have been synthesized by alkaline cyclisation starting from N‐benzoylamino acids (Ala, Val, Leu, Phe) derivatives and chlorosulfonyl isocyanate. A simplified and regioselective deprotection of the cyclic compounds (cyclosulfamides) containing the tert‐butyloxycarbonyl group (Boc) has been achieved in good yield by fusion under reduced pressure.     

An expedient synthesis of an isofervenulin analogue

An efficient approach has been developed for the synthesis of an isofervenulin analogue 1 employing a one‐pot condensation‐substitution reaction of a chlorocarboethoxytriazine (electrophile) with a urea (nucleophile). The resulting cyclization reaction resulted in the synthesis of a pyrimido‐heterocycle in good yield in either acidic or basic media. The former was assisted by utilizing trimethylsilyl chloride.     

Kristallstruktur des Zinkamids Zn[N(SiMe3)2]2

Crystal Structure of the Zinc Amide Zn[N(SiMe₃)₂]₂ X‐ray quality crystals of Zn[N(SiMe₃)₂]₂ (monoclinic, P2₁/c) are obtained by sublimation of the zinc amide Zn[N(SiMe₃)₂]₂ at —30 °C in vacuo (300 torr). According to the result of the X‐ray structural analysis, Zn[N(SiMe₃)₂]₂ contains an almost linear N‐Zn‐N unit with two short N‐Zn bonds.     

Transition‐metal‐catalyzed reactions of 5‐methylene‐2‐oxazolidinone and 5‐methylene‐1,3‐thiazolidine‐2‐thione with isocyanates

5‐Methylene‐2‐oxazolidinone (1) and 5‐methylene‐1,3‐thiazolidine‐2‐thione (4) react with various isocyanates to give the corresponding urethanes 3 and 5 in high yields in the presence of palladium(0) or palladium(II) catalyst under mild reaction conditions. Metallization of U3O8via catalytic electrochemical reduction with Li2O in LiCl molten salt

The concept of a novel electrochemical reduction process for the treatment of spent nuclear fuels in Li₂O-LiCl molten salt was proposed and fresh tests using U₃O₈ powder were carried out to elucidate the reaction mechanism and verify the feasibility of the process. Electrolysis of Li₂O and reduction of U₃O₈ powder took place simultaneously at the cathode part of the electrolysis cell via a catalytic EC mechanism and the conversion of U₃O₈ to U metal was more than 99%.
