Ordering in an ensemble of nanometer-size Au clusters on a NaCl(100) surface at high deposition rates

The results of experimental studies on pulsed laser deposition of the Au atoms on the NaCl(100) surface are reported. Under the conditions far from thermodynamic equilibrium, the spatial ordering was observed in an ensemble of gold clusters at the initial deposition stage. A mechanism based on the idea of fractal structure decomposition caused by the development of unstable concentration modes in the condensed substance is proposed.     

Effect of gallium, aluminium, and chromium on silica supported V-Mg-O catalysts during oxidative dehydrogenation of propane: Kinetic study

The oxidative dehydrogenation （ODH） of propane was conducted on gallium, aluminum, and chromium doped Si30VMgO catalysts. On doping, the concentrations of the phases responsible for the activity and selectivity increased in their concentrations. The reaction studies were conducted in a tubular steel reactor at temperatures of 753, 783, 813, and 843 K and atmospheric pressure. The total flow rates of the feed were chosen as 30, 40, 50, and 60 ml/min. The propane to oxygen ratios were chosen at 1 ： 1, 2 ： 1, and 3 ： 1, respectively. The effect of various dopants on the activity and selectivity of the catalysts was studied. Deactivation studies were conducted over all the catalysts. The kinetic data were analyzed in terms of power law models and Langmuir-Hinshelwood （LH） models. The kinetic data results were analyzed by comparing the effect of dopants. Statistical model discrimination was done for the proposed models. AIC and BIC criteria were used for discrimination of the models.     

Synthesis and characterization of functional polysilanes [RMe2Si(CH2)x(Me)Si]n (R = 2‐Fu, 5‐Me‐2‐Fu, 2‐Th, 4‐Me‐2‐Th; x = 2, 3) with appended furyl/thienyl groups on the carbosilyl side chains and their application in the generation and stabilization of palladium nanoparticles

The polysilanes [RMe₂Si(CH₂)_x(Me)Si]_n [x = 2, 3; R = 2‐Fu ( 1, 2 ), 5‐Me‐2‐Fu ( 3, 4 )] bearing furyl‐substituted carbosilyl side chains have been synthesized by dehalocondensation reaction (Wurtz coupling) of the corresponding carbosilanes using sodium dispersion in refluxing toluene. On the other hand, analogous polysilanes with appended thienyl groups [x = 2, 3; R = 2‐Th ( 5, 6 ), 4‐Me‐2‐Th ( 7, 8 )] are only accessible by the reaction of the corresponding carbosilane precursors under mild Wurtz coupling conditions (THF, RT). These polysilanes reveal monomodal molecular weight distribution with M_w/PDI = 3.3–5.4 × 10⁴/1.22–1.47 ( 1–4 ) and 9.1–14.4 × 10⁴/1.45–1.61 ( 5–8 ) and are characterized by FT‐IR, multinuclear (¹H, ¹³C{¹H}, ²⁹Si{¹H}) NMR, and UV/PL spectral studies as well as thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Preliminary studies on the reactivity of polysilane 2 with palladium acetate (toluene, RT) reveal the formation of spherical palladium nanoparticles of size 8.2 ± 0.6 nm, which remain stable in solution for several weeks. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An incoherent sub-picosecond X-ray source for time-resolved X-ray-diffraction experiments

Ultrashort bursts of K _α X-ray radiation were generated from fs-laser-produced plasmas. A complete experimental characterization of the X-ray source in terms of spectral, spatial, and temporal properties was performed. The pulse width of the K _α burst is shorter than 250 fs. The time-resolved evolution of a shock wave launched by a synchronized laser pulse in InSb was investigated. The transient change of the rocking curve yields detailed information on the structural changes. Received: 29 June 2000 / Published online: 22 November 2000     

Flat Extensions of Nonsingular Moment Matrices

In this paper we consider the truncated complex moment problem suggested by Curto and Fialkow. First, we give another computing proof for a solution of the nonsingular quadratic moment problem. Then we consider the nonsingular quartic moment problem and give some partial solutions.     

Direct amplitude detection of Zernike modes by computer-generated holographic wavefront sensor: Modeling and simulation

A fast holographic wavefront sensor is proposed using a computer-generated hologram (CGH). This CGH is a multiplexed hologram of different Zernike mode–amplitude combinations, and is designed in such a manner as to get the corresponding spots on the detector according to the presence and strength of a particular aberration. Interference between the aberrated wavefront (with a single mode–amplitude combination) and the Fourier transform of an image with single bright pixel (defined as dot image) is numerically calculated for one hologram. Different mode–amplitude combination and corresponding different positions of bright pixels (dots) are taken to compute various holograms and then all the holograms are multiplexed to get the final hologram. When the aberrated wavefront with a particular mode–amplitude combination is incident onto the multiplexed hologram, the corresponding dot is generated in the Fourier plane. A lens performs the Fourier transform in optical domain and provides the instant detection of amplitude of the respective Zernike mode. The main advantage of the scheme is to avoid the need of any computations, which makes it really fast. The simulation results are presented with the cross-talk analysis for few Zernike terms.     

Analysis of geological standards with PIXE and PIGE technioues applications to volcanic rocks

Geological standards are analyzed using PIXE and PIGE techniques. The concentrations of up to 26 elements are determined and compared with those obtained by other methods. PIXE and PIGE techniques are also applied to different volcanic rock samples. Their sensitivity, accuracy, and speed of data collection and reduction, are of great interest in the study of volcanic phenomena.
