ZnII Complexes for Bioimaging and Correlated Applications

Zinc is a biocompatible element that exists as the second most abundant transition metal ion and an indispensable trace element in the human body. Compared to traditional metal‐organic complexes systems, d¹⁰ metal Zn^II complexes not only exhibit a large Stokes shift and good photon stability but also possess strong emission and low cytotoxicity with a relatively small molecular weight. The use of Zn^II complexes has emerged in the last decade as a versatile and convenient tool for numerous biological applications, including bioimaging, molecular and protein recognition, as well as photodynamic therapy. Herein, we review recent developments involving Zn^II metal complexes applied as specific subcellular compartment imaging probes and their correlated utilizations.     

Chemoselective esterification of phenolic acids and alcohols

[formula: see text] The Mitsunobu reaction can distinguish between alcohol and phenol hydroxyls in esterification reactions, providing an expeditious and broadly applicable entry into various phenolics and polyphenolics of biomedical and nutritional relevance.     

Un problema ai limiti ellittico in un dominio non limitato

Summary For a class of operators described in § 2 we study an elliptic boundary value problem in an unbounded domain ofR ⁿ (half space). On certain surfaces with given Gaussian curvature in the theory of defects in crystals

We discuss surface integrals that describe certain dislocational defects in the framework of a continuum model for crystals with defects. We find that those surface integrals have an interpretation which is similar to the one of Burger's integrals in the theories of Bilby and Kondo, and gives rise to a problem first studied by Minkowski in a purely geometrical context.     

Characterization of the weakly rigid motions in linear kinematics of cosserat surfaces

Summary To state existence and uniqueness ofweak solutions in linear elastostatics of Cosserat surfaces it is necessary to study the class of motions corrisponding to vanishing deformations and satisfying the Dirichlet boundary data. We prove those motions are regular and correspond to rigid motions in the classical sense.

Sommario Per stabilire esistenza ed unicità disoluzioni deboli nei problemi di elastostatica lineare delle superfici di Cosserat è necessario studiare la classe dei moti corrispondenti a misure di deformazione nulle e soddisfacenti le condizioni geometriche al contorno. Si dimostra che moti di questo tipo sono regolari e corrispondono a moti rigidi in senso classico.

The estimation of relaxation times from out-of-phase detected EPR spectra

A method is described by which the saturation-transfer electron paramagnetic resonance technique may be employed to determine values of T₁ and T₂ from experimental spectra. The effect of higher harmonics of the modulation field on the calculated out-of-phase spectrum is computed. The results suggest that the inclusion of higher harmonics is important to ensure that well-characterized values of especially T₂ may be obtained.
