Oligo/polymerisation of known mesogens constitutes a highly efficient strategy in liquid crystal research due to its potential to generate novel liquid crystal materials with intriguing mesomorphic properties. Here we report the synthesis and comparative studies of a synthetic liquid crystal dimer and two of its monomer analogues. By incorporating cholesterol as the mesogenic group, we designed a flexible scaffold consisting of a hybrid of non-polar hydrophobic chain and polar tetraethylene glycol appended to the cholesteryl mesogens. Detailed studies showed that the two classes of mesogens exhibit the same type of liquid crystal phases with similar dimensions but their transition temperatures varied which can be effectively rationalised by the particular chemical functionalities present in each class of materials.  相似文献

Gas filled hollow microparticles, i.e., microbubbles and microballoons, are soft matter devices used in a number of diverse applications ranging from protein separation and purification in food science to drilling technology and ultrasound imaging. Aqueous dispersions of these mesoscopic systems are characterized by the stabilization of the air/water interface by a thin shell of phospholipid bilayer or multilayers or by a denatured and cross-linked proteic matrix. We present a study of a type of microballoons based on modified poly(vinyl alcohol), PVA, a synthetic biocompatible polymer, with new structural features. A cross-linking reaction carried out at the air/water interface provides polymeric air-filled microbubbles with average dimensions depending on the reaction temperature. Characterization of diameters and shell thicknesses for microbubbles obtained at different temperatures has been carried out. Conversion to solvent-filled hollow microcapsules is possible by soaking microbubbles in dimethyl sulfoxide. Microcapsules permeability to fluorescent labeled dextran molecular weight standards was correlated to the mesh size of the polymer network of the shell. Microbubbles were covalently grafted under very mild conditions with beta-cyclodextrin and poly-l-lysine with a view to assay the capability of the device for delivery of hydrophobic drugs or DNA. PVA based microballoons show a remarkable shelf life of several months, their external surface can be decorated with many biologically relevant molecules. These features, together with a tested biocompatibility, make them attractive candidates for use as multifunctional device for diagnosis and therapeutic purposes, i.e., as ultrasound reflectors in ecographic investigation and as drug platforms for in situ sonoporation.  相似文献

Promising materials have been designed and fully characterised by an effective interaction between versatile platforms such as carbon nanohorns (CNHs) and conjugated molecules based on thiophene derivatives. Easy and non‐aggressive methods have been described for the synthesis and purification of the final systems. Oligothiophenephenylvinylene (OTP) systems with different geometries and electron density are coupled to the CNHs. A wide range of characterization techniques have been used to confirm the effective interaction between the donor (OTP) and the acceptor (CNH) systems. These hybrid materials show potential for integration into solar cell devices. Importantly, surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) effects are observed without the presence of any metal surface in the system. Theoretical calculations have been performed to study the optimised geometries of the noncovalent interaction between the surface and the organic molecule. The calculations allow information on the monoelectronic energies of HOMO–LUMO orbitals and band gap of different donor systems to be extracted.  相似文献

An efficient synthesis of methyl 9-amino-3-hydroxy-4-oxo-6,7,8,9-tetrahydro-4H-pyrido[1,2-a]pyrimidine-2-carboxylate as a late stage intermediate for a new class of HIV-1 integrase inhibitors is described. After construction of the bicyclic core scaffold, a stereoselective introduction of the chiral amino group in the 9-position is achieved.  相似文献

We report on Ramsey fringes measured in a single InGaAs/GaAs quantum dot two-level system. We are able to control the transition energy of the system by Stark effect tuning. In combination with double pulse excitation this allows for a voltage controlled preparation of the phase and the occupancy of the two-level system. For long pulse delay times we observe extremely narrow fringes with spectral width below the homogeneous linewidth of the system. Implications on quantum information processing are discussed.  相似文献

The time changes of photoluminescence (PL) characteristics of porous silicon (porSi) powder during storing in different ambients have been reported. A porous silicon material with embedded Si nanocrystals of size of few nanometers was prepared by an electrochemical method from 10 to 20 Ωcm p-type Si wafers, and both constant and pulse current anodization regimes were used. A powder with a submicron average particle size was obtained by simple mechanical lift-off of the porous layer followed by additional manual milling. The air, hexane, and water as storage media were used, and modification by a nonionic surfactant (undecylenic acid) of the porSi surface was applied in the latter case. Dependence of PL characteristics on preparation and storage conditions was then studied. A remarkable blue shift of a position of PL maximum was observed in time for porSi powders in each storage media. In water suspension a many-fold build-up (10–30) of PL intensity in a time scale of few days was accompanied by an observed blue shift. Photoluminescence time behavior of porSi powders was described by a known mechanism of the change of porSi PL from free exciton emission of Si nanocrystals to luminescence of localized oxidized states on the Si nanocrystal surface.  相似文献

We consider the second-order linear difference equation \(y(n+2)-2a y(n+1)-\Lambda ^2 y(n)=g(n)y(n)+f(n)y(n+1)\), where \(\Lambda \) is a large complex parameter, \(a\ge 0\) and g and f are sequences of complex numbers. Two methods are proposed to find the asymptotic behavior for large \(\vert \Lambda \vert \) of the solutions of this equation: (i) an iterative method based on a fixed point method and (ii) a discrete version of Olver’s method for second-order linear differential equations. Both methods provide an asymptotic expansion of every solution of this equation. The expansion given by the first method is also convergent and may be applied to nonlinear problems. Bounds for the remainders are also given. We illustrate the accuracy of both methods for the modified Bessel functions and the associated Legendre functions of the first kind.  相似文献

The introduction of mechanophores into polymers makes it possible to transduce mechanical forces into chemical reactions that can be used to impart functions such as self‐healing, catalytic activity, and mechanochromic response. Here, an example of mechanically induced metal ion release from a polymer is reported. Ferrocene (Fc) was incorporated as an iron ion releasing mechanophore into poly(methyl acrylate)s (PMAs) and polyurethanes (PUs). Sonication triggered the preferential cleavage of the polymers at the Fc units over other bonds, as shown by a kinetic study of the molar mass distribution of the cleaved Fc‐containing and Fc‐free reference polymers. The released and oxidized iron ions can be detected with KSCN to generate the red‐colored [Fe(SCN)n(H2O)6?n)](3?n)+ complex or reacted with K4[Fe(CN)6] to afford Prussian blue.  相似文献

Electrostatic and charge‐transfer contributions to CH–π complexes can be modulated by attaching electron‐withdrawing substituents to the carbon atom. While clearly stabilizing in the gas phase, the outcome of this chemical modification in water is more difficult to predict. Herein we provide a definitive and quantitative answer to this question employing a simple strategy based on dynamic combinatorial chemistry.  相似文献
