This study evaluates a correlation between family history, micronutrients intake, and alternative therapies with genetic instability, before and during breast cancer treatment. For this study, a total of 150 women were selected. Among those, 50 women were breast cancer patients on chemotherapy, while 50 breast cancer patients were on radiotherapy, and 50 were healthy females. All the participants signed the informed consent form and answered the public health questionnaire. Samples of buccal epithelial and peripheral blood cells were collected and analyzed through micronucleus and comet assays. The cells were evaluated for apoptosis and DNA damage. Results showed the association of patients’ family history with an increase in toxicogenetic damage before and during cancer therapy. On the other hand, patients with late-onset cancer also presented genetic instability before and during therapy, along with those who did not take sufficient vegetables and alternative therapies. A positive correlation was observed between the genetic instability and alternative therapies, while inverse correlation was recorded with the vegetable consumption. Results clearly explain that the nutritional aspects and alternative therapies influence the genetic instability before and during cancer therapies especially in radiotherapy treated patients. Our data could be used for the monitoring therapies and management of breast cancer patients.

Because redox properties are central to bioreductive drug activity and selectivity, six 2-methyl-5-nitroimidazole, substituted at the N1-ethyl side chain with I, Br, Cl, OAc, OMs and NH(3)(+) were synthesized and submitted to cyclic voltammetry and electrolyses, in order to define their electrodic reduction mechanism, in aprotic [dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO)+0.1 mol l(-1) tetrabuthylammonium perchlorate (TBAP)] and phosphate-buffered media, on glassy carbon electrode, in comparison with metronidazole. Three of these compounds, namely, the iodo, bromo and ammonium salt derivatives showed significant anti-Helicobacter pylori (strain resistant to metronidazole) activity. All the cyclic voltammograms (CV), in aprotic medium, are similar to the one for metronidazole, except for -I, -Br and -NH(3)(+) derivatives. The CV of the N1-ethylhalide (-I, -Br) 5-nitroimidazole showed more intense and irreversible first waves, even at faster sweep rates (nu<2 V s(-1)). The absence of the first wave anodic counterpart, along with analysis of the dependence of E(p), I(p) and other parameters with nu, and results from electrolysis (consumption of two electrons) showed the process to be an ECE system, with halide release, after uptake of two electrons. This behaviour represents a case of dissociative electron transfer (ET). For the ammonium salt, self-protonation mechanism was evident. The facility of reduction represented by the first wave potential and concerning the substituents is NH(3)(+)>Br>I>Cl>OMs>OH>OAc. In aqueous phosphate-buffered medium, the electrochemical behaviour of all the compounds is similar to the one of metronidazole, represented by a unique and irreversible 4e(-)/4H(+) wave. The order of reduction ease is NH(3)(+)>Br approximately OMs>I>OH>OAc. Aprotic medium allows a better discrimination between the substituents. Concerning biological activity, despite the impossibility of establishing a correlation, it has been observed that the more electrophilic compounds showed better anti-H. pylori activity. 相似文献

which governs the photonic band structure and the density of states (DOS) of one-dimensional photonic crystals. In addition
to the well-known existence of the band gaps, we show that, depending on the width relationship b/a between the layer materials, super-lattices with null photonic band gap may exist and the conditions for such occurrences
are established. Furthermore, we have been able to study the so-called 〈n〉 = 0 non-Bragg gap, ground ω0, for which the average refraction felt by the propagating radiation is null.

A multicomponent synthesis of substituted 3-styryl-1H-quinoxalin-2-ones is described. Sequential reactions of o-phenylenediamine with sodium pyruvate and aldehydes in 20% aqueous acetic acid containing sodium acetate provided the target products in good to high yields. Fucan-coated magnetite (Fe3O4) nanoparticles were synthesized by the co-precipitation method and studied by Mössbauer spectroscopy and magnetic measurements. The sizes of the nanoparticles were 8–9 nm. Magnetization measurements and Mössbauer spectroscopy at 300 K revealed superparamagnetic behavior. The magnetic moment of the Fe3O4 is partly screened by the Fucan coating aggregation. When the magnetite nanoparticles are capped with oleic acid or fucan, reduced particle-particle interaction is observed by Mössbauer and TEM studies. The antitumoral activity of the fucan-coated nanoparticles were tested in Sarcoma 180, showing an effective reduction of the tumor size. 相似文献

The gain or loss of an investment can be defined by the movement of the market. This movement can be estimated by the difference between the magnitudes of two stock prices in distinct periods and this difference can be used to calculate the volatility of the markets. The volatility characterizes the sensitivity of a market change in the world economy. Traditionally, the probability density function (pdf) of the movement of the markets is analyzed by using power laws. The contributions of this work is two-fold: (i) an analysis of the volatility dynamic of the world market indexes is performed by using a two-year window time data. In this case, the experiments show that the pdf of the volatility is better fitted by exponential function than power laws, in all range of pdf; (ii) after that, we investigate a relationship between the volatility of the markets and the coefficient of the exponential function based on the Maxwell-Boltzmann ideal gas theory. The results show an inverse relationship between the volatility and the coefficient of the exponential function. This information can be used, for example, to predict the future behavior of the markets or to cluster the markets in order to analyze economic patterns. 相似文献

The essential oils from the leaves of Annona salzmannii and A. pickelii (Annonaceae) growing in Sergipe, northeastern region of Brazil, were obtained by hydrodistillation using a Clevenger-type apparatus, and analyzed by GC/MS and GC/FID. Thirty-four compounds were identified in the essential oil of A. salzmannii and twenty-seven in that of A. pickelii; sesquiterpenes predominated in both essential oils. Bicyclogermacrene (20.3%), (E)-caryophyllene (19.9%), delta-cadinene (15.3%), alpha-copaene (10.0%), and allo-aromadendrene (5.7%) were the main components of A. salzmannii, and bicyclogermacrene (45.4%), (E)-caryophyllene (14.6%), and alpha-copaene (10.6%) of A. pickelii. The essential oils showed significant antioxidant capacity in the ORAC(FL) and DPPH assays. The antimicrobial activity of these essential oils was also evaluated against bacteria and fungi, as well as the larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti larvae. 相似文献
