As part of a wider study into the use of smartphones as solar ultraviolet radiation monitors, this article characterizes the ultraviolet A (UVA; 320–400 nm) response of a consumer complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS)‐based smartphone image sensor in a controlled laboratory environment. The CMOS image sensor in the camera possesses inherent sensitivity to UVA, and despite the attenuation due to the lens and neutral density and wavelength‐specific bandpass filters, the measured relative UVA irradiances relative to the incident irradiances range from 0.0065% at 380 nm to 0.0051% at 340 nm. In addition, the sensor demonstrates a predictable response to low‐intensity discrete UVA stimuli that can be modelled using the ratio of recorded digital values to the incident UVA irradiance for a given automatic exposure time, and resulting in measurement errors that are typically less than 5%. Our results support the idea that smartphones can be used for scientific monitoring of UVA radiation.  相似文献

A series of nanoparticles is prepared via layer‐by‐layer assembly of oppositely charged, synthetic biocompatible polyamidoamine polymers as potential carriers. Particle size, surface charge and internal chain mobility are quantified as a function of the polymer type and number of layers. The effect of addition of surfactant is examined to simulate the effects of nanoparticle dissolution. The cyctotoxicity of these particles (in epithelia and murine cell lines) are orders of magnitude lower than polyethyleneimine controls. Stable nanoparticles may be prepared from mixtures of strongly, oppositely charged polymers, but less successfully from weakly charged polymers, and, given their acceptable toxicity characteristics, such modularly designed constructs show promise for drug and gene delivery.

Novel chemical methods have been developed to allow for the determination of the components of silica fume produced by zircon desilication. Hitherto, no methods have been described for the analysis of this material. The amorphous silica is first removed by treatment with sodium hydroxide. The residue from the hydroxide treatment may then be subjected to a suite of reagents to determine the zircon, the total zirconia, the monoclinic zirconia and the tetragonal zirconia content of the fume. The zircon content of the fume is determined by treatment of the hydroxide residue with concentrated hydrofluoric acid (HF). The total zirconia content of the fume is determined by digestion of the hydroxide residue with fuming sulphuric acid (oleum), while the relative amounts of monoclinic and tetragonal zirconia may be found by treatment of the hydroxide residue with 10%w/v HF, which attacks the less stable tetragonal phase. Both X-ray diffraction and particle size analysis were used to validate the steps in the analytical procedure. An explanation of the presence of tetragonal zirconia in the fume is proposed. A greater understanding of the composition of the fume led to the installation of a separator in the company's production line to remove the zircon. Australian Fused Materials (AFM) now produces a vastly superior grade of fume marketed under the code SF-98.  相似文献

The reactions of ionised acetanilide, C(6)H(5)NH(=O)CH(3)(.+), and its enol, C(6)H(5)NH(OH)=CH(2)(.+), have been studied by a combination of tandem mass spectrometric and computational methods. These two isomeric radical cations have distinct chemistries at low internal energies. The keto tautomer eliminates exclusively CH(2)=C=O to give ionised aniline. In contrast, the enol tautomer loses H-N=C=O, via an unusual skeletal rearrangement, to form predominantly ionised methylene cyclohexadiene. Hydrogen atom loss also occurs from the enol tautomer, with the formation of protonated oxindole. The mechanisms for H-N=C=O and hydrogen atom loss both involve cyclisation; the former proceeds via a spiro transition state formed by attachment of the methylene group to the ipso position, whereas the latter entails the formation of a five-membered ring by attachment to the ortho position. The behaviour of labelled analogues reveals that these two processes have different site selectivities. Hydrogen atom loss involves a reverse critical energy and is subject to an isotope effect. Surprisingly, attempts to promote the enolisation of ionised acetanilide by proton-transport catalysis were unsuccessful. In a reversal of the usual situation for ionised carbonyl compounds, ionised acetanilide is actually more stable than its enol tautomer. The enol tautomer was resistant to proton-transport catalysed ketonisation to ionised acetanilide, possibly because the favoured geometry of the encounter complex with the base molecule is inappropriate for facilitating tautomerisation.  相似文献

The reactions of 4-isopropylidene-1-aryl-3-methyl-2-pyrazolin-5-ones 4a-d were investigated under a variety of conditions. In the presence of thiols or piperidine, 4a-d failed to yield conjugate addition products, presumably due to the steric bulk provided by the two methyl substituents of the isopropylidene side chain. Reaction of 4a-d with hydrazine derivatives gave the 1-aryl-3-methyl-2-pyrazolin-5-ones 3a-d and isopropyl-hydrazones. Treatment of 4a with potassium cyanide yielded a stable conjugate addition product which exists as a mixture of tautomers in different solvents. Also, oxidation of 4a with hydrogen peroxide gave a spiroepoxide 22 , while m-chloroperbenzoic acid oxidation afforded both the spiroepoxide 22 , and a small quantity of a hydroxyspiroepoxide 23.  相似文献

An asymmetric bis(silyl) niobocene hydride complex, namely, bis(η5-cyclopentadienyl)(fluorodimethylsilyl)hydrido(iododimethylsilyl)niobium, [Nb(C5H5)2(C2H6FSi)(C2H6ISi)H] or Cp2NbH(SiIMe2)(SiFMe2), has been studied to determine the effect of the silyl ligand on the position of the hydride attached to the Nb atom. It has been shown that when a Group 17 atom is substituted onto one of the silyl ligands, there is a greater interaction between the hydride and this ligand, as demonstrated by a shorter Si…H distance. In the present work, we have investigated the effect when the silyl ligands are substituted by different Group 17 atoms. We present here the structure and DFT calculations of Cp2NbH(SiIMe2)(SiFMe2), showing that the position of the hydride is located between the two silyl ligands. The results from our investigation show that the hydride is closer to the silyl ligand that is substituted by fluorine.  相似文献

Time-consuming fusion and pyrohydrolysis methods for quantifying fluoride and tin in fluoride-doped tin oxide films on glass are replaced by a simple electrolytic reduction for sample preparation. The unusual conductivity of these films enables solutions to be produced in which fluoride can be quantified by ion chromatography. Tin is quantified in the original sample by x-ray fluorescence spectrometry. Electrolytic reduction and the fusion/pyrohydrolysis methods are compared for films with Sn/F ratios of 10–40 (71–183 μg cm?2 tin and 0.54–2.8 μ cm?2 fluoride). The Sn/F ratios and precision are similar for the two methods. The older method only yields the tin/fluoride ratio; the electrolytic method gives results as mass per unit area and requires much less time per sample.  相似文献

The efficient, 12–14 step (LLS) total synthesis of (?)‐halenaquinone has been achieved. Key steps in the synthetic sequence include: (a) proline sulfonamide‐catalyzed, Yamada–Otani reaction to establish the C6 all‐carbon quaternary stereocenter, (b) multiple, novel palladium‐mediated oxidative cyclizations to introduce the furan moiety, and (c) oxidative Bergman cyclization to form the final quinone ring.  相似文献
