Scaling probability, key to the equilibrium statistical volume distribution in foams

The equilibrium statistical volume distribution in foams, which has been previously demonstrated to be the so-called log-normal, is accounted on probability grounds by a scaling law on the bubble's volume time-evolution. This law states that the conditional probability for a given bubble to have the volume v(t + Δt), he assumption that it was v(t), to depend solely on the relationship v(t + Δt)/v(t), and in particular, to be independent of the time t. The theoretical results, however, allow to go further. Indeed, since the time dependece of its parameters (expectation and variance) are given functions of time, only two parameters are necessary to describe completely the foam.     

On coherent states for the simplest quantum groups

The coherent states for the simplest quantum groups (q-Heisenberg-Weyl, SU _q (2) and the discrete series of representations of SU _q (1, 1)) are introduced and their properties investigated. The corresponding analytic representations, path integrals, and q-deformation of Berezin's quantization on , a sphere, and the Lobatchevsky plane are discussed.

Electro-flow focusing: the high-conductivity low-viscosity limit

Electro-flow focusing, a technique combining the features of electrospray (ES) and flow focusing (FF), provides a reliable tool to reach parametrical microjetting ranges not attainable by ES or FF alone under specific operational regimes (liquid properties and flow rate). In this Letter, we provide not only a closed theoretical model predicting the diameter of a high electrical conductivity electro-flow focused liquid microjet, but also its convective or absolute instability, linked to the jetting-to-dripping transition and the minimum liquid flow rate that can be ejected in steady jetting regime, in which the smallest droplets are issued. Good agreement is found with experimental values.     

Chirped fibre Bragg grating based multiplexer and demultiplexer for DWDM applications

A multiplexer/demultiplexer for 100 GHz channel spacing based on chirped fibre Bragg gratings with different bandwidths and optical circulators is presented. The spectral characteristics, specifications and operation of these passive devices are described, showing its potential use in dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) applications.
