The timescale for the coupling of electronic and vibrational excitation in isolated fullerenes is determined by recording positive ion time-of-flight mass spectra on excitation with ultrashort laser pulses at 790 nm of the same fluence but different pulse durations. The coupling leads to the onset of a delayed ionisation “tail” on the parent fullerene ion peak. This occurs for a pulse duration of 500-1000 fs, depending on laser fluence. The application of non‐destructive imaging to characterizing samples has become more important as the costs of samples increase. Imaging a sample via X‐ray techniques is preferable when altering or even touching the sample affects its properties, or when the sample is fielded after characterization. Two laboratory‐based X‐ray techniques used at Los Alamos include micro X‐ray computed tomography (MXCT) and confocal micro X‐ray fluorescence (confocal MXRF). Both methods create a 3D rendering of the sample non‐destructively. MXCT produces a high‐resolution (sub‐µm voxel) rendering of the sample based upon X‐ray absorption; the resulting model is a function of density and does not contain any elemental information. Confocal MXRF produces an elementally specific 3D rendering of the sample, but at a lower (30 × 30 × 65 µm) resolution. By combining data from these two techniques, scientists provided a more comprehensive method of analysis. We will describe a MATLAB routine written to render each of these data sets individually and/or within the same coordinate system. This approach is shown in the analysis of two samples: an integrated circuit surface mounted resistor and a machined piece of polystyrene foam. The samples chosen provide an opportunity to compare and contrast the two X‐ray techniques, identify their weaknesses and show how they are used in a complementary fashion. Plasma wakefield accelerators offer accelerating and focusing electric fields three to four orders of magnitude larger than state-of-the-art radiofrequency cavity-based accelerators. Plasma photocathodes can release ultracold electron populations within such plasma waves and thus open a path toward tunable production of well-defined, compact electron beams with normalized emittance and brightness many orders of magnitude better than state-of-the-art. Such beams will have far-reaching impact for applications such as light sources, but also open up new vistas on high energy and high field physics. This paper reviews the innovation of plasma photocathodes, and reports on the experimental progress, challenges, and future prospects of the approach. Details of the proof-of-concept demonstration of a plasma photocathode in 90° geometry at SLAC FACET within the E-210: Trojan Horse program are described. Using this experience, alongside theoretical and simulation-supported advances, an outlook is given on future realizations of plasma photocathodes such as the upcoming E-310: Trojan Horse-II program at FACET-II with prospects toward excellent witness beam parameter quality, tunability, and stability. Future installations of plasma photocathodes also at compact, hybrid plasma wakefield accelerators, will then boost capacities and open up novel capabilities for experiments at the forefront of interaction of high brightness electron and photon beams.  相似文献

A novel multiplexed immunoassay for the analysis of phycotoxins in shellfish samples has been developed. Therefore, a regenerable chemiluminescence (CL) microarray was established which is able to analyze automatically three different phycotoxins (domoic acid (DA), okadaic acid (OA) and saxitoxin (STX)) in parallel on the analysis platform MCR3. As a test format an indirect competitive immunoassay format was applied. These phycotoxins were directly immobilized on an epoxy-activated PEG chip surface. The parallel analysis was enabled by the simultaneous addition of all analytes and specific antibodies on one microarray chip. After the competitive reaction, the CL signal was recorded by a CCD camera. Due to the ability to regenerate the toxin microarray, internal calibrations of phycotoxins in parallel were performed using the same microarray chip, which was suitable for 25 consecutive measurements. For the three target phycotoxins multi-analyte calibration curves were generated. In extracted shellfish matrix, the determined LODs for DA, OA and STX with values of 0.5 ± 0.3 μg L−1, 1.0 ± 0.6 μg L−1, and 0.4 ± 0.2 μg L−1 were slightly lower than in PBS buffer. For determination of toxin recoveries, the observed signal loss in the regeneration was corrected. After applying mathematical corrections spiked shellfish samples were quantified with recoveries for DA, OA, and STX of 86.2%, 102.5%, and 61.6%, respectively, in 20 min. This is the first demonstration of an antibody based phycotoxin microarray.  相似文献

We study the multiplicative structure of rings of coinvariants for finite groups. We develop methods that give rise to natural monomial bases for such rings over their ground fields and explicitly determine precisely which monomials are zero in the ring of coinvariants. We apply our methods to the Dickson, upper triangular and symmetric coinvariants. Along the way, we recover theorems of Steinberg [17] and E. Artin [1]. Using these monomial bases we prove that the image of the transfer for a general linear group over a finite field is a principal ideal in the ring of invariants. This paper reports the development and characterisation of a multipoint quasi-distributed optical fiber sensor for pH measurement. The system is based on a 170 m length of 200 μm core diameter plastic cladding silica fiber where sections of cladding have been removed and replaced with dye immobilised sol-gel glass to form sensing points. Evanescent wave excitation of a dye, immobilised within 2 mm long sections of cladding, enables the pH value of any spillage material to be determined by optical time domain reflectometry along the length of the fiber. The results suggest a spatial resolution of better than 2.5 meters for this fiber system and indicate that this arrangement could form the basis of a practical sensor/actuator system for chemical spillage, provided that suitable dye/analyte combinations are available.  相似文献

Experiments are carried out to verify a theory developed to correlate the strain history of the polymer during film blowing to the ultimate physical properties of the film. The theory predicts that the amount of strain put into the film once it starts to freeze, defined as strain in the amorphous region and the plastic strain, has a dominant effect on the film properties. Two grades of low and linear low density polyethylene, experimental resins supplied by Mobil chemical company, were used to produce the blown film yielding a 1.25 mil film at the for all experimental runs. Film surface and bulk temperatures, along the machine direction and around the bubble, were measured using the infra-red techniques to identify the points where film starts to crystallize. A video digitization technique was used to measure the bubble kinematics. Film properties were measured using standard ASTM methods. The results indicate a correlation between the amount of strain and a measure of stress with ultimate physical properties of the blown film. This principle leads to the correlation of both the machine and transverse film properties on the same surface. The results obtained can potentially be exploited by designing the blown-film equipment and processing conditions such that optimal bubble stretching produces desired film properties.  相似文献

The results of Fenske-Hall molecular orbital calculations are reported for the trigonal prismatic complexes Mo(S(2)C(2)H(2))(3) and Mo(S(2)C(6)H(4))(3). Both complexes exhibit a bend of the S-C-C-S ligand plane away from the S-Mo-S plane. A series of calculations which systematically follow the changes in electronic structure as the bend angle alpha is varied between 0 and 30 degrees indicates that the bend can be attributed to a second order Jahn-Teller distortion. The driving force for this distortion, which allows mixing between a set of ligand pi orbitals and the metal d(z)()()2 orbital, should be greatest for d(0) systems. In these systems the bent geometry leads to the stabilization of the doubly occupied HOMO. The driving force for ligand bending should be lower in systems having more or fewer electrons (e.g. Re(S(2)C(2)Ph(2))(3) or V(S(2)C(2)Ph(2))(3), respectively). While the steric bulk of the dithiolate ligands in the latter complexes may also influence the degree of ligand bending, this is probably a secondary effect.  相似文献
