A series of mesogen‐jacketed liquid crystalline polymers, poly{2,2,3,3,4,4,4‐heptafluorobutyl 4′‐hydroxy‐2‐vinylbiphenyl‐4‐carboxylate} (PF3Cm, where m is the number of carbon atoms in the alkoxy groups, and m = 1, 4, 6, and 8), the side chain of which contains a biphenyl core with a fluorocarbon substituent at one end and an alkoxy unit of varying length on the other end, were designed and successfully synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization. For comparison, poly{butyl 4′‐hydroxy‐2‐vinylbiphenyl‐4‐carboxylate} (PC4Cm), similar to PF3Cm but with a butyl group instead of the fluorocarbon substituent, was also prepared. Differential scanning calorimetric results reveal that the glass transition temperatures (Tgs) of the two series of polymers decrease as m increases and Tgs of the fluorocarbon‐substituted polymers are higher than those of the corresponding butyl‐substituted polymers. Wide‐angle X‐ray diffraction measurements show that the mesophase structures of these polymers are dependent on the number of the carbon atoms in the fluorocarbon substituent and the property of the other terminal substituent. Polymers with fluorocarbon substituents enter into columnar nematic phases when m ≥ 4, whereas the polymer PF3C1 exhibits no liquid crystallinity. For polymers with butyl substituents, columnar nematic phases form when the number of carbon atoms at both ends of the side chain is not equal at high temperatures and disappear after the polymers are cooled to ambient temperature. However, when the polymer has the same number of carbon atoms at both ends of the side chain, a hexagonal columnar phase develops, and this phase remains after the polymer is cooled. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. An angular‐shaped naphthalene tetracarboxylic diimide (NDI) was designed and synthesized as a new building block for n‐type conjugated polymers to tune their energy levels. Three n‐type copolymers incorporating this angular‐shaped NDI as the acceptor moiety were obtained by Stille coupling reactions and had number average molecular weights of 18.7–73.0 kDa. All‐polymer bulk‐heterojunction solar cells made from blends of these polymers with poly(3‐hexylthiophene) gave a power conversion efficiency up to 0.32% and exhibited an open‐circuit voltage (Voc) up to 0.94 V due to their relative high‐lying lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy levels. The high Voc of 0.94 V is higher than that of solar cells based on linear‐shaped NDI‐containing polymers (<0.6 V). The results indicate that the angular‐shaped NDI is a promising building block for constructing nonfullerene polymer acceptors for solar cells with high open‐circuit voltages. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Anthocyanins possess cancer chemopreventive properties in preclinical models. Their clinical pharmacology is only poorly understood. In this pilot study, anthocyanins and their metabolites were analysed in the urine of two patients with colorectal liver metastases. They received a single dose of 1.88 g standardized bilberry extract (mirtoselect) via either nasogastric or nasojejunal tube intra‐operatively during liver resection. HPLC‐MS/MS and HPLC‐UV analysis showed there were more anthocyanins and metabolites in the urine of the patient who received mirtoselect via the stomach than via the jejunum. This result is consistent with information obtained in rodents which suggests the stomach is the predominant site for anthocyanin absorption. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The nature of the near‐IR band in the electronic absorption spectra of bis(tetrapyrrole) rare earth(III) complexes Y(Pc)2 (1), La(Pc)2 (2), Y(Pc)(Por) (3), Y(Pc)[Pc(α‐OCH3)4] (4), Y(Pc)[Pc(α‐OCH3)8] (5), and Y(Pc)[Pc(β‐OCH3)8] (6) was studied on the basis of time‐dependent density functional theory (TD‐DFT) calculations. The electronic dipole moment along the z‐axis in the electronic transition of the near‐IR band in all the studied neutral bis(tetrapyrrole) yttrium(III) and lanthanum(III) double‐deckers is well explained on the basis of the composition analysis of the orbitals involved. The electronic transition in the near‐IR band causes the reversion of the orbital orientation of one tetrapyrrole ring in both homoleptic and heteroleptic bis(tetrapyrrole) rare earth complexes and induces electron transfer from the tetrapyrrole ring with lower orbital energy to the other ring in the heteroleptic bis(tetrapyrrole) rare earth(III) complexes. The near‐IR band can work as an ideal characteristic absorption band to reflect the π–π interaction between the two tetrapyrrole rings in bis(tetrapyrrole) rare earth(III) double‐decker complexes because of its peculiar electronic transition nature. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A sensitive and selective liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry method for the determination of pethidine in human plasma was developed and validated over the concentration range of 4–2000 ng/mL. After addition of ketamine as internal standard, liquid–liquid extraction was used to produce a protein‐free extract. Chromatographic separation was achieved on a 100 × 2.1 mm, 5 µm particle, AllureTM PFP propyl column, with 45:40:15 (v/v/v) acetonitrile–methanol–water containing 0.2% formic acid as mobile phase. The MS data acquisition was accomplished by multiple reactions monitoring mode with positive electrospray ionization interface. The lower limit of quantification was 4 ng/mL; for inter‐day and intra‐day tests, the precision (RSD) for the entire validation was less than 7%, and the accuracy was within 95.9–106.5%. The method is sensitive and simple, and was successfully applied to analysis of samples of clinical intoxication. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Bacterial cellulose (BC)/poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) composite was prepared by immersing wet BC pellicle in PEG aqueous solution followed by freeze-drying process. The product looks like a foam structure. The morphology of BC/PEG composite was examined by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and compared with pristine BC. SEM images showed that PEG molecules was not only coated on the BC fibrils surface but also penetrated into BC fiber networks. It has very well interconnected porous network structure and large aspect surface. The composite was also characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrum, X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and tensile test. It was found that the presence of PEG affected the preferential orientation of the (1[`1]0 1\bar{1}0 ) plane during the drying process of BC pellicle, which in turn decrease the crystallinity of dried BC. The TGA result showed that the thermal stability was improved from 263 to 293 °C, which might be associated with strong interaction between BC and PEG. Tensile test results indicate that the Young’s modulus and tensile strength tend to decrease. Biocompatibility of composite was preliminarily evaluated by cell adhesion studies using 3T3 fibroblast cells. The cells incubated with BC/PEG scaffolds for 48 h were capable of forming cell adhesion and proliferation, which showed much better biocompatibility than the pure BC. The prepared BC/PEG scaffolds can be used for wound dressing or tissue-engineering scaffolds.  相似文献
