An efficient RuCl3·H2O/I2 catalytic system: A facile access to 3-aroylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridines from 2-aminopyridines and chalcones

A simple and efficient protocol has been demonstrated for the preparation of densely functionalized 3-aroylimidazo[1,2-a]pyridines from 2-aminopyridines and chalcones using RuCl₃·H₂O/I₂ catalytic system. The advantages, such as low catalyst loading, broad substrate scope with respect to substitutions on aminopyridines as well as chalcones, stability of heterocycles such as thiophene under the reaction conditions, operationally simple procedure and higher yields makes this approach remarkable for synthetic applications.     

Influence of pH and Salt on the Photocrosslinking in Polyelectrolyte Thymine‐Containing Films

Photocrosslinking of thymine‐based water‐soluble polymer films was investigated at varying preparation conditions. Adding salt or decreasing the pH of the solution from which the films were cast resulted in the decreased efficiency of photoimmobilization, while increasing the pH was found to increase the photoimmobilization efficiency. A mechanistic rationale for the observed effects is proposed.     

Algebraic methods for the solution of linear functional equations

The equation

$$\sum^{n}_ {i=0} a_{i}f(b_{i}x + (1 - b_{i})y) = 0$$

belongs to the class of linear functional equations. The solutions form a linear space with respect to the usual pointwise operations. According to the classical results of the theory they must be generalized polynomials. New investigations have been started a few years ago. They clarified that the existence of non-trivial solutions depends on the algebraic properties of some related families of parameters. The problem is to find the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of non-trivial solutions in terms of these kinds of properties. One of the earliest results is due to Z. Daróczy [1]. It can be considered as the solution of the problem in case of n = 2. We are going to take more steps forward by solving the problem in case of n = 3.

     

Study of theS-matrix near bound states in the continuum

The behaviour ofS-matrix for potentials generating bound states in continuum in the neighbourhood of the positive bound state energies is studied. It is shown that unlike the case of usual negative energy bound states, theS-matrix does not have a pole at the positive bound state energy but becomes unity at the energy corresponding to bound states in continuum. Calculations ofS-waveS-matrix for a local potential constructed by Stillinger and Herrick and a separable nonlocal potential constructed by the present authors verify these results. Our results indicate that the bound states embedded in continuum constructedvia the von Neumann and Wigner procedure cannot be interpreted as resonances with zero width.     

From Containers to Catalysts: Supramolecular Catalysis within Cucurbiturils

Cucurbiturils are a family of molecular container compounds with superior molecular recognition properties. The use of cucurbiturils for supramolecular catalysis is highlighted in this concept. Both photochemical reactions as well as thermal transformations are reviewed with an eye towards tailoring substrates for supramolecular catalysis mediated by cucurbiturils.     

Electrochemical behaviour of nickel-based electrodes for oxygen evolution reaction in alkaline water electrolysis

NiZnS electrode has been investigated for use in oxygen evolution reaction in alkaline media. Nickel mesh electrode was coated with the ternary composition of NiZnS by four methods, viz., direct current electrodeposition, pulse electrodeposition, sonoassisted direct current electrodeposition and sonoassisted pulse electrodeposition. The oxygen evolution studies carried out using these electrodes resulted in higher current density for the electrode prepared by sonoassisted pulse electrodeposition compared to those prepared by other methods. Effect of plating current density, pulse duty cycle and temperature on the electrochemical parameters of the alloy coating has been studied. Surface morphologies of the various coating were studied using scanning electron microscopy. Long-term stability of the electrodes prepared was studied in alkaline medium. Exchange current density (j _o) was found to increase with the increase in temperature and was the highest for sonoassisted pulse electrodeposited electrode.
