pH-Driven Variation of the Outer-Sphere Binding Mode of cis-[Co(Ad)(en)2Cl]Cl (en-Ethylendiamine, Ad-Adeninate) with p-Sulfonatothiacalix[4]arene

The non-symmetrical cobalt (III) complex cis-[Co(Ad)(en)₂Cl]Cl (1Cl), possessing two flexible ethylendiaminate chelate rings (en) and monodentate N(9)-bound adeninate (Ad^-) was chosen as the guest of p-sulfonatothiacalix[4]arene (STCA) to study the inclusion complex formation at wide range of pH 2–10. It was shown by ¹H, NOE NMR methods and pH-metric procedure, that pH-driven variation of the inclusion mode of 1 ⁺ into calixarene cavity is the result of the protonation of 1 ⁺ via adeninate moiety.     

Colloidal stability and photophysical characteristics of luminesent silica nanoparticles modified with various nitrogen/oxygen-containing trialkoxysilanes

Surface modification of the luminescent silica nanoparticles doped with Tb(III)–p-sulfonatothiacalix[ 4]arene complex was carried out using a series of nitrogen/oxygen-containing trialkoxysilanes. It was found that groups capable of nonspecific interactions on the surface of the nanoparticles cause a significant decrease in their colloidal stability. The chromophore moieties in the modifiers were found to quench the luminescence of the nanoparticles. The surface modification of the nanoparticles is responsible for the change in the mechanism of luminescence quenching in the presence of copper(II) ions due to decreased accessibility of luminophores to the quencher.     

Pyridoxal: A New Alkylating Agent in Reactions with Phenols and Polyphenols

A possibility to use pyridoxal as an alkylating agent in the reactions of electrophilic mono-, di-, and trisubstitution in the aromatic core of various phenols and polyphenols was demonstrated for the first time. New types of hydroxyl-containing aromatic aldehydes containing vitamin B6 fragment were obtained, and the conditions for their synthesis were optimized.

Synthesis of 1-(arylsulfonyl)pyrrolidines from phenols and 1-[(4-chlorophenyl)sulfonyl]-2-ethoxypyrrolidine

Acid-catalyzed reaction of 1-[(4-chlorophenyl)sulfonyl]-2-ethoxypyrrolidine with phenols leads to the formation of new 1-(arylsulfonyl)pyrrolidines. The reaction proceeds under mild conditions and may be used as a convenient method for the synthesis of pyrrolidine-1-sulfonylarene derivatives containing a phenol fragment in the position 2.
