Dihalocarbene reactions of isobenzofurans

In a search for 1,4-additions of dihalocarbenes, compounds 1, 2, and 4 were reacted with CX₂. Diaryl isobenzofurans (4) yielded substituted 1-aryl-1-(o-benzoyl-phenyl)-2,2-dihaloethenes (5) in very fast additions of dichloro-, dibromo-, and diiodocarbenes. Possible intermediates are discussed.     

Two-proton neutron-hole yrast excitations in 66 147 Dy81

The level structure of theN=81 nucleus¹⁴⁷Dy has been studied byγ-ray spectroscopy following reactions of 230–250 MeV^58,60Ni beams on⁸⁹Y and^90,92Zr targets. Yrast and near-yrast levels in¹⁴⁷Dy above the known 59-s 11/2^? state are established up to ～3.7 MeV; they include isomeric levels at 2,681, 3,407 and 3,650 keV. Guided by the results of shell model calculations, we interpret most of the observed level as senioritythree states arising from the coupling ofs _1/2,d _3/2, andh _11/2 neutron holes withπh _11/2 ².     

Untersuchung der Atmung einzelner Gewebekulturen mit Radiokohlenstoff

Zusammenfassung In Embryonalextrakt gehaltenen Kulturen von Hühnchenfibroblasten wurde radioaktive Glukose zugeführt und die Aktivität des erzeugten Kohlendioxyds bestimmt. Aus dieser Aktivität wurde auf die veratmete Glukosemenge geschlossen. Deckglaskulturen veratmeten bei Zufuhr von 6 oder mehr Glukose 1 . Nach einigen Stunden wurde ein Maximum der Atmung erreicht, nach wenigen Tagen kam die Atmung praktisch zum Stillstand. Auch Embryonalextrakt allein (ohne Kultur) entwickelt eine geringe Menge Radiokohlendioxyd.Roller-Kulturen veratmen viel mehr (unter Umständen hundertemal mehr) Glukose als Deckglaskulturen; auch in diesem Falle ist die Kohlendioxydentwicklung der Kultur viel größer als die des Nährmediums. Deckglas- undRoller-Kulturen veratmen Glukose auch in isotoner Salzlösung ohne Zusatz von Embryonalextrakt.     

Optimale Bedingungen für die Gewinnung von radioaktivem Tabakmosaikvirus

Zusammenfassung Mit Tabakmosaikvirus infizierte Blätter wurden während 24 Stdn. zur Assimilation von radioaktivem Kohlendioxyd veranlaßt. Virus höchster spezifischer Radioaktivität wurde erhalten, wenn die Blätter kurz nach der Infektion dieser Radiophotosynthese unterworfen wurden; höchste Gesamtaktivität ergab sich bei Radiophotosynthese mindestens einen Monat nach Infektion. Ein beträchtlicher Teil der Aktivität befand sich im Nukleinsäureteil des Moleküls. Durch Infiltration von infizierten Blättern mit Radioglukose und nachfolgende Aufbewahrung im Dunkeln ergab sich ebenfalls radioaktives Virus; der Einbau des Radiokohlenstoffes in das Virus ist also nicht notwendig mit der Photosynthese gekoppelt.

Properties of the 3− first excited state in the doubly closed shell nucleus146Gd

Conversion electron measurements confirm the 3^? assignment recently proposed for the 1579 keV first excited state in¹⁴⁶Gd. Fromγγ- ande ^? γ-coincidence data the half life of that state has been determined asT _1/2=1.06±0.12 ns.     

Über Synthesen von radioaktiv markiertem 4-Dimethylamino-azobenzol II

In Fortsetzung früherer Arbeiten wurden zwei verschieden radioaktiv markierte Dimethylamino-azobenzole hergestellt, nämlich 4-¹⁴C-4-Dimethylamino-azobenzol und ein 4-Dimethylamio-azobenzol, in dem sämtliche Kohlenstoffatome beider Benzolkerne mit¹⁴C markiert sind.     

Der Einbau von Radiokohlenstoff in Tabakmosaikvirus verschiedenen “Alters”

Zusammenfassung Tabakblätter wurden wenige Tage nach der Infektion mit Mosaikvirus zur photosynthetischen Aufnahme radioaktiven Kohlenstoffs veranlaßt. Das Virus wurde sodann isoliert und die Abhängigkeit der spezifischen Radioaktivität des Virus von dem seit der Infektion verflossenen Zeitraum (Alter des Virus) geprüft. Es ergibt sich, daß in dem untersuchten Bereich sowohl die sperifische Radioaktivität des Virus als auch die Gesamtradioaktivität des Virus weit höher ist, als wenn die Photosynthese mit dem virusgesättigten Blatt erfolgt. Dieses Ergebnis ist auch für die praktische Darstellung des markierten Virus bedeutungsvoll.Herrn Prof. Dr.A. Franke zum 80. Geburtstag gewidmet.     

Protonh 2 11/2 and octupole excitations in148 66Dy82 and149 66Dy83

The yrast states of¹⁴⁸Dy and¹⁴⁹Dy have been studied by γ-ray and conversion electron measurements in (α, xn) and (¹⁶O,xn) reactions on enriched¹⁵²Gd and¹³⁵Ce targets. Level schemes to above 4 MeV for the two nuclei are reported. The πh ² _11/2 spectrum identified in¹⁴⁸Dy and the πh _11/2 effective chargee _eff=1.52±0.05e, derived from the measuredE2 transition rate between the (πh ² _11/2) 10⁺ and 8⁺ states, are discussed and compared with results for other two-particle nuclei. The yrast cascades in¹⁴⁸Dy and¹⁴⁹Dy continue above the (πh ² _11/2) 10⁺ and πh ² _11/2 vf _7/2) 27/2^? states by ～ 1 MeVE1 transitions de-exciting the lowest members of octupole multiplets built on these states. The energy shifts for the observed members of the πh ² _11/2 × 3^? multiplet are analyzed in terms of twoparticle-phonon exchange coupling using an empirical coupling strength extracted from the one valence particle nucleus¹⁴⁷Tb. The dominantvf _7/2×3^? character of low-lying 13/2⁺ isomers in¹⁴⁹Dy and otherN=83 nuclei is emphasized.     

Orientational preferences of aromatic guests in dimeric capsules of tetraurea calix[4]arenes--MD and NMR studies

Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations have been performed for complexes of a dimeric capsule of a tetraurea calixarene with a series of twelve aromatic guests. A distinct orientational preference and a restriction of the internal mobility was found which depend on the size and electronic properties of the guests. The results are in agreement with the CIS values obtained from (1)H NMR spectroscopic measurements and with complexation selectivities obtained by competition experiments.
