Stereochimie de l'hydrogenation des (±) Δ3(3a)-hydrindenones-4. Comparaison avec le cas de la (+) methyl-3 Δ3(3a)-hydrindenone-4 et de ses dioxolannes

We show that the four studied 4-hydrindenones (with or without a methyl substituant at C3 or C7a) give by hydrogenation on Raney nickel or on Pd/C, in various solvants, the cis 4-hydrindanones, by a kinetically controlled process. During the hydrogenation, the double bond can migrate only in the positions conjugated to the carbonyl group.In contrast, when the carbonyle is protected as a dioxolanne, the double bond is free to migrate around the five membered ring. In spite of this mobility the optical purity of the saturated dioxolannes formed is high. In the case of the (+)3-methyl Δ^3(3a) 4-hydrindenone, the enantiomeric hydrindanones $\text{9a}$ obtained by direct hydrogenation or with isomerization of the double bond are not the same. Therefore, the optical purity of the product is low, but its value allows an estimation of the relative importance of the two reaction pathways.     

High refractive index hyperbranched polyvinylsulfides for planar one‐dimensional all‐polymer photonic crystals

We report on the growth and characterization of one‐dimensional (1D) planar all‐polymer photonic crystals (PhC) with high dielectric contrast (Δn = 0.3) prepared by spin coating using hyperbranched polyvinylsulfide polymers (HB‐PVS) as high refractive index material and cellulose acetate as low refractive index material. Solution processable HB‐PVS show a near ultraviolet absorption inducing an increased refractive index in the visible‐near infrared (n = 1.68, λ = 1000 nm). HBPVS:Cellulose Acetate Distributed Bragg Reflectors show a very clear fingerprint of the photonic band gap possessing the expected polarized dispersion properties as a function of the incidence angle. Moreover, engineered microcavities tuned on the weak fluorescence spectrum of the HB‐PVS show directional fluorescence enhancement effects due to spectral redistribution of the emission oscillator strength. The combination of all these properties testifies the high optical quality of the obtained photonic structures thus indicating HB‐PVS as an interesting material for the preparation of such PhC. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Cycloaddition Reactions and Dendritic Polymer Architectures – A Perfect Match

Summery: The potential of cycloaddition (CA) reactions for the synthesis of dendritic polymers is pointed out. The [4 + 2] Diels Alder cycloaddition as well as 1,3-dipolar CA reactions including “click chemistry” are addressed, and the advantages of these reactions like high selectivity, thus high tolerance towards additional functionalities, high yields and synthesis under mild reaction conditions are highlighted. New perfectly branched dendrimers as well as hyperbranched polymers have been prepared and modified using the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction of azines with alkynes. The 1,3-dipolar CA reaction of bisazine with maleimides results in hyperbranched and thus, irregular and broadly distributed polymers though with a degree of branching of 100% due to special intermediate formation. The [4 + 2] Diels Alder cycloaddition was successfully applied for the synthesis of highly branched polyphenylene structures using the AB₂ + AB and the A₂ + B₃ approach. CA reactions are also very suitable for highly efficient polymer analogous reactions and thus, they can also be used to prepare complex polymer architectures like dendronized polymers.     

Preparation and Enantiospecific Binding of Chiral Polyelectrolyte Multilayers: An In-Situ ATR-FTIR Study

Summary: Two chiral polyelectrolyte multilayers (PEM) composed of poly(L-lysine) (PLL) and poly(vinylsulfate) (PVS) as well as poly(ethyleneimine-maltose) (PEI-m) and poly(vinylsulfate) and a nonchiral PEM composed of poly(ethyleneimine) (PEI) and poly(vinylsulfate) were deposited on a silica surface using the layer by layer method. For both PEM enantiospecific interaction towards one enantiomer of either L-/D- glutamic acid (L-/D-GLU) or L-/D-ascorbic acid (L-/D-ASC), respectively, was checked under variation of the concentration. Both deposition and enantiospecific interaction were studied by attenuated total reflection Fourier transform (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy. Preliminary results show a significant enantiospecific preference of D- GLU over L-GLU at PEM of PLL/PVS and of D-ASC over L-ASC at PEM of PEI-m/PVS and no such preference for nonchiral PEM of PEI/PVS. PEM of PLL/PVS shows higher enantiospecifity with increasing L-/D-GLU concentration.     

4H-Chromenone Glycosides from Eranthis hyemalis (L.) SALISBURY

Investigation of the tubers of Eranthis hyemalis (Ranunculaceae) afforded six chromenone glycosides. Their structures have been elucidated mainly by spectroscopic (FAB-MS, 2D-NMR techniques) and chemical methods (acidic and enzymatic hydrolysis) as 9-{[(β-D -glucopyranosyl)oxy]methyl}-8,11-dihydro-5-hydroxy-2-methyl-4H-pyrano[2,3-g][1]benzoxepin-4-one ( 1 ), 9-{[(β-D -gentiobiosyl)oxy]methyl}-8,11-dihydro-5-hydroxy-2-methyl-4H-pyrano[2,3-g][1]benzoxepin-4-one( 2 ), 9-{[(β-D -glucopyranosvl)oxy]melhyl}-8,11-dihydro-5-hydroxy-2-(hydroxy-methyl)-4H-pyrano[2,3-g][1]benzoxepin-4-one( 3 ), 8-{(2E)-4-[(β-D -glucopyranosyl)oxy]-3-methylbut-2-enyl}-5,7-dihydroxy-2-methyl-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one ( 4 ), 8-{(2E)-4-[(β-D -glucopyranosyi)oxy]-3-methylbut-2-enyl}-5,7-dihydroxy-2-(hydroxymethyl)-4H-1-benzopyran-4-one ( 5 ), and 7-{[(β-D -glucopyranosy1)oxy]methyl}-2,3-dihydro-2-(l-hydroxy-1-methylethyl)-4-methoxy-5H-furo[3,2-g][1]benzopyran-5-one ( 6 ). Compound 2 exhibited negative inotropic activity.     

A short note on harmonic functions and zero divisors on the Sierpinski fractal

We show that harmonic functions are not zero divisors in the algebra of real-valued continuous functions on the Sierpinski fractal.     

Uniquely solvable quadratic boolean equations

Quadratic boolean equations with a unique solution are characterized. A linear-time algorithm is proposed to recognize them.
