The charged particle multiplicity distribution has been studied for non-single-diffractive π+ p andpp collisions at \(\sqrt s = 22\) GeV, for full phase space as well as for intervals in rapidity, azimuthal angle and transverse momentum. In general, the multiplicity distribution is well described by a negative binomial. From comparison of the distribution for negative or positive particles to that of all charged particles, cascading is favoured as an interpretation over stimulated emission. Interesting consequences follow from a comparison of our results to those at collider energies and toe + e ? data at comparable energy. Furthermore, evidence is given that the multiplicity distribution is not exactly of negative binomial type in every (connected or disconnected) phase space region.  相似文献

We have measured the specific heat, the electrical resistance and the magnetic susceptibility of YBa2Cu3O7–x in a superconducting (sc) and in a non-superconducting (nsc) version. The latter was obtained by inducing a small loss of oxygen. In the sc sample we find a jump of the specific heat with C=3.6 J mole–1 K–1. Below the maximum nearT c the specific heat of the sc version drops too fast for an electronic effect alone: there is a cross-over from excess to deficiency already at 0.9T c . The specific heat of the nsc version shows a change of slope in the temperature range between 70 and 80 K, which indicates the existence of a second specific heat anomaly, which apparently exists independently of that due to the onset of superconductivity and explains at least partially the premature crossover.Alexander von Humboldt fellow. We analyze the momentum space triple pomeron vertex in perturbative QCD. In addition to the standard form of this vertex which is used in the context of total cross sections at high energies and in the QCD reggeon field theory, there exists an alternative form which has to be used in the study of high-mass diffraction. We review and analyze the relation between these two versions. We discuss some implications for the BK equation. On 27 December 2004, a giant gamma flare from the Soft Gamma-Ray Repeater 1806-20 saturated many satellite gamma-ray detectors, being the brightest transient event ever observed in the Galaxy. AMANDA-II was used to search for down-going muons indicative of high-energy gammas and/or neutrinos from this object. The data revealed no significant signal, so upper limits (at 90% C.L.) on the normalization constant were set: 0.05(0.5) TeV-1 m;{-2} s;{-1} for gamma=-1.47 (-2) in the gamma flux and 0.4(6.1) TeV-1 m;{-2} s;{-1} for gamma=-1.47 (-2) in the high-energy neutrino flux.  相似文献

The following article describes an advanced dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) Optical Network developed by L-3 Photonics. The network, configured as an amplified optical bus, carries traffic simultaneously in both directions, using multiple wavelengths. As a result, data distribution is of the form peer-to-multi-peer, it is protocol independent, and it is scalable. The network leverages the rapid growth in commercial optical technologies, including wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), and when applied to military and commercial platforms such as aircraft, ships, unmanned and other vehicles, provides a cost-effective, low-weight, high-speed, and high noise-immune data distribution system.  相似文献

A new computational method for solving the nucleon?Cdeuteron breakup scattering problem has been applied to study the elastic nucleon?Cdeuteron scattering on the basis of the configuration-space Faddeev?CNoyes?CNoble?CMerkuriev equations. The Merkuriev?CGignoux?CLaverne approach has been generalized for arbitrary nucleon?Cnucleon potentials and with an arbitrary number of partial waves. The nucleon?Cdeuteron observables at the incident nucleon energy 3?MeV have been calculated using the charge-independent AV14 nucleon?Cnucleon potential including the Coulomb force for the proton?Cdeuteron scattering. Spin-spin relaxation timeT 2 values of serum with and without iron were measured by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to find the proton relaxivity of Fe(III) in serum.T 2 values in serum containing definite amounts of added iron were also measured before and after addition of ascorbic acid. The difference in the 1/T 2 of serum with and without ascorbic acid was used for recalculation of the added iron values. Recalculated iron values confirm that the difference in healthy serum is caused by iron only. In addition, in order to find the paramagnetic contribution of serum iron,T 2 values of iron-deficient, healthy and iron-overloaded serum were measured before and after addition of ascorbic acid. The difference in the 1/T 2 values was then applied to the calculation of the serum iron values. The consistency of iron values determined from the difference to those by autoanalyzer suggests that the differences in diseased serum also represent the paramagnetic contribution of serum iron. The data imply that serum iron content in healthy, iron-deficient and iron-overloaded serum may be assessed by MRI.  相似文献

The intersection between dislocations and a Ag(111) surface has been studied using an interplay of scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) and molecular dynamics. Whereas the STM provides atomically resolved information about the surface structure and Burgers vectors of the dislocations, the simulations can be used to determine dislocation structure and orientation in the near-surface region. In a similar way, the subsurface structure of other extended defects can be studied. The simulations show dislocations to reorient the partials in the surface region leading to an increased splitting width at the surface, in agreement with the STM observations. Implications for surface-induced cross slip are discussed.  相似文献

The interaction of Ag and In with a thin film of 3,4,9,10-perylenetetracarboxylic dianhydride (PTCDA) was studied by near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS). Upon Ag deposition on a PTCDA film of 20 nm thickness the relative intensities and lineshapes, as well as the angular dependence of the spectra remains unchanged, illustrating the formation of a chemically unreactive Ag/PTCDA interface. On the other hand, the adsorption of 0.3 nm In strongly decreases the intensity of the π* resonances in C and O K-edge NEXAFS spectra. This is attributed to a strong charge transfer between In and PTCDA, leading to a redistribution of the charge in the molecule. However, the absence of a strong shift or new features and negligible dependence of peak intensities corresponding to π* resonances on the In thickness indicate that the interaction between In and PTCDA is not accompanied by a covalent bond formation.  相似文献
