In this paper, we construct and analyze a level‐dependent coarse grid correction scheme for indefinite Helmholtz problems. This adapted multigrid (MG) method is capable of solving the Helmholtz equation on the finest grid using a series of MG cycles with a grid‐dependent complex shift, leading to a stable correction scheme on all levels. It is rigorously shown that the adaptation of the complex shift throughout the MG cycle maintains the functionality of the two‐grid correction scheme, as no smooth modes are amplified in or added to the error. In addition, a sufficiently smoothing relaxation scheme should be applied to ensure damping of the oscillatory error components. Numerical experiments on various benchmark problems show the method to be competitive with or even outperform the current state‐of‐the‐art MG‐preconditioned Krylov methods, for example, complex shifted Laplacian preconditioned flexible GMRES. When Jack van Lint was appointed as full professor at the Eindhoven University of Technology at the age of 26 he combined a PhD in number theory with a very open scientific mind. It took a sabbatical visit to Bell Laboratories in 1966 to make him understand that a new and fascinating field of applied mathematics was emerging: discrete mathematics. It fascinated and inspired him for the rest of his life. When he passed away on September 28, 2004, he left behind a legacy of 18 books and 177 articles, covering many aspects of coding theory, combinatorics, and finite geometry.van Lint was also a strong international advocate of the role that discrete mathematics ought to play in modern applied mathematics curricula. Quite a few departments sought his advice. Years later, four different universities showed their appreciation by awarding him an honorary degree.This overview is an homage to van Lint's academic achievements and can serve as an introduction to his work for younger generations.  相似文献

New higher-dimensional distributions have been introduced in the framework of Clifford analysis in previous papers by Brackx, Delanghe and Sommen. Those distributions were defined using spherical co-ordinates, the "finite part" distribution Fp x+^μ on the real line and the generalized spherical means involving vector-valued spherical monogenics. In this paper, we make a second generalization, leading to new families of distributions, based on the generalized spherical means involving a multivector-valued spherical monogenic. At the same time, as a result of our attempt at keeping the paper self-contained, it offers an overview of the results found so far.  相似文献

The effect of susceptibility differences between fluid and fibers on the properties of DTI fiber phantoms was investigated. Thereto, machine-made, easily producible and inexpensive DTI fiber phantoms were constructed by winding polyamide fibers of 15 microm diameter around a circular acrylic glass spindle. The achieved fractional anisotropy was 0.78+/-0.02. It is shown by phantom measurements and Monte Carlo simulations that the transversal relaxation time T(2) strongly depends on the angle between the fibers and the B(0) field if the susceptibilities of the fibers and fluid are not identical. In the phantoms, the measured T(2) time at 3 T decreased by 60% for fibers running perpendicular to B(0). Monte Carlo simulations confirmed this result and revealed that the exact relaxation time depends strongly on the exact packing of the fibers. In the phantoms, the measured diffusion was independent of fiber orientation. Monte Carlo simulations revealed that the measured diffusion strongly depends on the exact fiber packing and that field strength and -orientation dependencies of measured diffusion may be minimal for hexagonal packing while the diffusion can be underestimated by more than 50% for cubic packing at 3 T. To overcome these effects, the susceptibilities of fibers and fluid were matched using an aqueous sodium chloride solution (83 g NaCl per kilogram of water). This enables an orientation independent and reliable use of DTI phantoms for evaluation purposes.  相似文献
