Stability of control systems with a moving optimization interval for a class of nonlinear plants

We investigate the stability of the control system with a moving optimization interval for a nonlinear discrete dynamic plant with additive controls. Single access hashing with overflow separators for dynamic files

The dynamic external hashing proposed in this paper allocates records according to the spiral storage technique. Separators derived from the signature technique are used for distinguishing primary from overflow records and for subdividing overflow chains into segments allocated into the primary file. Single access retrieval is obtained by means of a main memory index with an entry per bucket and containing separators and pointers. While this method uses a larger index than other recent proposals, it is much more convenient regarding load factor and insertion cost. Furthermore, file expansion is directed by various control parameters, thus allowing the user to choose the most suitable policy for his application.     

Propagation of acoustic waves in a fibrous fluid-filled material

The homogenization method is used for the analysis of acoustic wave propagation in a unidirectional fibrous material for the acoustic control of the fiber arrangement in manufacturing composites. Acoustic equations for a rigid periodic structure filled by a nonviscous fluid are obtained by two-dimensional asymptotic expansions. A regular square and triangular arrangement of the fibers with a round cross-section are considered. The analysis reveals that the velocity of acoustic waves is significantly affected by both the volume content and the fiber arrangement.Moscow State Academy of Chemical Engineering, Russia. Nuclear pears: Recent developments and future prospects

We report studies of examples of reflection-asymmetric nuclei which are difficult to access using compound nucleus reactions. The octupole radium isotopes withN>132 and radon isotopes are not accessible by reactions employing stable targets and beams; we have shown that multinucleon transfer reactions can populate these nuclei with sufficient yield for their structure to be determined. We report high-spin studies in^{218, 220, 222}Rn and^{222, 224, 226, 228, 230}Ra: these show that the Ra isotopes withA<228 have the characteristics of octupole deformed nuclei whereas the Rn isotopes behave like octupole vibrators. Measurements of theB(E1)/B(E2) ratios indicate that the electric dipole moment in these nuclei is constant with spin. The most octupole deformed nuclei are predicted to be uranium isotopes withN≈132; measurements of the very fissile nucleus²²⁶U suggest that it is octupole deformed and has a large intrinsic electric dipole moment. Finally, we speculate that the best examples of pear shapes are the hyperdeformed minima predicted to lie low in uranium isotopes withN≈140; their signature of high-multiplicity low-energyE1 photon cascades should be detectable using present-day high-efficiency germanium arrays.     

Siderophore Transport in Mycobacteria Analyzed by Mössbauer Spectroscopy: Possible Routes to Novel Antibiotics against These Organisms?

Iron uptake of the ⁵⁷Fe-siderophores ferricrocin, rhizoferrin and citrate in M. smegmatis was analyzed by in situ Mössbauer spectroscopy. Siderophore dependent uptake and metabolic utilization patterns of ⁵⁷Fe were found. Rhizoferrin is accumulated in the organism and, therefore, represents a suitable candidate for the synthesis of novel siderophore-antibiotics conjugates.     

Ferromagnetic resonance in multilayer [Fe/Cr]n structures with noncollinear magnetic ordering

The excitation spectrum in an [Fe/Cr]n multilayer structure with non-collinear magnetic ordering was studied by the ferromagnetic resonance (FMR) method in the frequency interval 9.5–37 GHz at room temperature. Besides an acoustic branch, several additional modes were observed under parallel excitation of resonance. The FMR spectrum was calculated analytically in a biquadratic exchange model, neglecting in-plane anisotropy, for an infinite number of layers in the structure and numerically for a finite number of layers contained in real samples.
