For a graph , we construct two algebras whose dimensions are both equal to the number of spanning trees of . One of these algebras is the quotient of the polynomial ring modulo certain monomial ideal, while the other is the quotient of the polynomial ring modulo certain powers of linear forms. We describe the set of monomials that forms a linear basis in each of these two algebras. The basis elements correspond to -parking functions that naturally came up in the abelian sandpile model. These ideals are instances of the general class of monotone monomial ideals and their deformations. We show that the Hilbert series of a monotone monomial ideal is always bounded by the Hilbert series of its deformation. Then we define an even more general class of monomial ideals associated with posets and construct free resolutions for these ideals. In some cases these resolutions coincide with Scarf resolutions. We prove several formulas for Hilbert series of monotone monomial ideals and investigate when they are equal to Hilbert series of deformations. In the appendix we discuss the abelian sandpile model.

We develop an analytic approach to the Radon transform , where is a function on the affine Grassmann manifold of -dimensional planes in , and is a -dimensional plane in the similar manifold k$">. For , we prove that this transform is finite almost everywhere on if and only if , and obtain explicit inversion formulas. We establish correspondence between Radon transforms on affine Grassmann manifolds and similar transforms on standard Grassmann manifolds of linear subspaces of . It is proved that the dual Radon transform can be explicitly inverted for , and interpreted as a direct, ``quasi-orthogonal" Radon transform for another pair of affine Grassmannians. As a consequence we obtain that the Radon transform and the dual Radon transform are injective simultaneously if and only if . The investigation is carried out for locally integrable and continuous functions satisfying natural weak conditions at infinity.

Depending on the Hamiltonian parameters, two-component bosons in an optical lattice can form at least three different superfluid phases in which both components participate in the superflow: a (strongly interacting) mixture of two miscible superfluids (2SF), a paired superfluid (PSF) vacuum, and (at a commensurate total filling factor) the super-counter-fluid (SCF) state. We study the universal properties of the 2SF-PSF and 2SF-SCF quantum phase transitions and show that (i) they can be mapped onto each other and (ii) their universality class is identical to the (d+1)-dimensional normal-superfluid transition in a single-component liquid. The finite-temperature 2SF-PSF(SCF) transitions and the topological properties of 2SF-PSF(SCF) interfaces are also discussed.  相似文献

A model for the propagation of coherent pulses along a one-dimensional, resonantly absorbing Bragg grating that includes localized inhomogeneous population inversion at its center is presented. The long-range coupling between the optical field and resonant atoms allows for controllable trapping of a gap soliton by the local inversion, thus opening new opportunities for control of signal transmission and localization of light.  相似文献

Effective electromechanical coupling coefficients are defined based on the expression for the internal energy of a piezoelectric body [B. S. Aronov, "Energy analysis of a piezoelectric body under nonuniform deformation," J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 113, 2638-2646 (2003)]. The condition is considered under which the effective coupling coefficient can be maximized up to the value of the material coupling coefficient for any given distribution of deformation. A simple practical way to optimize the effective coupling coefficient of a transducer by changing its electrode shape is illustrated with examples of transducers vibrating in longitudinal and flexural modes.  相似文献

An experimentally realizable scheme of periodic sign-changing modulation of the scattering length is proposed for Bose-Einstein condensates similar to dispersion-management schemes in fiber optics. Because of controlling the scattering length via the Feshbach resonance, the scheme is named Feshbach-resonance management. The modulational-instability analysis of the quasiuniform condensate driven by this scheme leads to an analog of the Kronig-Penney model. The ensuing stable localized structures are found. These include breathers, which oscillate between the Thomas-Fermi and Gaussian configuration, or may be similar to the 2-soliton state of the nonlinear Schr?dinger equation, and a nearly static state ("odd soliton") with a nested dark soliton. An overall phase diagram for breathers is constructed, and full stability of the odd solitons is numerically established.  相似文献
