The KTeV experiment at Fermilab has isolated a total of 132 events from the rare decay K(L)-->e+ e- mu+ mu-, with an estimated background of 0.8 events. The branching ratio of this mode is determined to be [2.69+/-0.24(stat)+/-0.12(syst)]x10(-9), with a radiative cutoff of M(2)(ee mu mu)/M(2)(K)>0.95. The first measurement using this mode of the parameter alpha from the D'Ambrosio-Isidori-Portolès (DIP) model of the K(L)gamma*gamma* vertex yields a result of -1.59+/-0.37, consistent with values obtained from other decay modes. Because of the limited statistics, no sensitivity is found to the DIP parameter beta. We use this decay mode to set limits on CP and lepton violation.  相似文献

A specifically tailored plasma lens could shape a high-energy, heavy-ion beam into the form of a hollow cylinder without loss of beam intensity. It has been experimentally confirmed that both a positive as well as a negative radial gradient of the current density in the active plasma lens can be the underlying principle. Calculations were performed that yield the ideal current density distribution for both cases. A numerical simulation of an experiment with an intense ion beam highlights that the shaping of the beam increases the achievable compression in a lead sample.  相似文献

An output pulse energy of 17.3 mJ has been achieved with a diode-pumped Yb:CaF2 regenerative laser amplifier. The bandwidth of the output pulse spectrum was 7.3 nm, being seeded with femtosecond pulses stretched to 2.2 ns. In cw operation a tuning range of 80 nm has been observed. A maximum pulse energy of 44 mJ at a repetition rate of 1 Hz has been obtained in Q-switched mode. Abstract

This paper describes a new fiber-optic sensor for pressures up to 200 MPa, based on the effect of hydrostatic stress on the polarization-mode coupling which occurs in highly birefringent fibers. Sensor construction, measurement set-up and typical output are presented. Results show that this new sensor displays far greater sensitivity when compared to solid-state pressure sensors.  相似文献

Offshore countries attract companies for a possible relocation of production processes through extremely low worker wages. Particularly, mass production processes seem to be highly appropriate for a relocation. However, while the impact of wage reductions can be directly estimated, an appropriate determination of additional cost consequences proves to be a complex task. For instance, on account of lower education standards and higher fluctuation rates, the average worker skills in offshore countries are often significantly lower than in high-wage countries like the United States. In order to appropriately analyze and evaluate the resulting tradeoff between wages and worker skills for mass customization manufacturing systems, this paper introduces a new approach that comprises a detailed mixed-model assembly line balancing. This approach provides a direct comparison of the estimated variable manufacturing costs by generating a country-dependent line layout for all competing locations. In order to validate the efficiency of the balancing approach and, in particular, derive general implications for management, several test series with various country configurations were executed. First, by attaining improvement rates of up to 40%, the capability of a generated Tabu Search procedure for finding appropriate line layouts was proven. Second, as the main result, the complexity of the variant program was identified as a crucial factor for offshoring decisions since it substantially affects variable manufacturing costs. This was particularly proven for countries with low worker skills, which attract offshoring/nearshoring through exceptionally low labor costs. Hence, companies that consider outsourcing production systems to those countries are strongly hold to examine these decisive effects thoroughly. Regarding this, offshoring becomes very promising for manufacturing processes characterized by a moderate variant complexity level.  相似文献

Summary.  Methyl glycosides of Kdo and a (2→8)-linked Kdo disaccharide were prepared which contain a deuterium label at C-8 of the reducing unit. The label was introduced in fair diastereoselectivity upon reduction of an aldehyde group using a chiral borane complex derived from N-benzyloxycarbonyl-(S)-proline which produced the 8-(S)-deuterated derivative as the major isomer. Further coupling with a Kdo bromide gave the α-(2→8)-linked disaccharide in good yield. The deprotected disaccharide serves as a model for NMR spectroscopic studies on the side chain conformation of a carbohydrate epitope from the bacterial pathogen Chlamydia.
