Thermal expansion in the AgGa(S1−xSex)2 solid solutions from X-ray diffraction data

The lattice parameters a and c as well as the axial thermal expansion coefficients in the AgGa(S_1-xSe_x)₂ solid solutions with chalcopyrite-type structure were determined as a function of temperature in the range from 80 to 700 K and composition x using an X-ray powder diffractometry technique. It is found that the thermal expansion coefficients were anisotropic and for all the solid solutions the thermal expansion coefficients along the tetragonal c-axis were negative whereas those along the a-axis and the volume coefficients were positive. The directions in which the crystal thickness does not change as temperature varies, were found. The composition dependences of these coefficients were non-linear.     

2D-Mueller-matrix tomography of optically anisotropic polycrystalline networks of biological tissues histological sections

A new technique of Mueller-matrix mapping of the birefringent structure of biological preparations of human organs tissues is suggested. The algorithms of reconstruction of average values and magnitude of fluctuations of the phase (birefringence) and amplitude (dichroism) of optically anisotropic structure of myocardium and connective tissue component of the vaginal wall histological section are proposed. The magnitudes and ranges of changes in the statistical moments of the 1st-4th order that characterize the distribution of average values and magnitude of fluctuations of birefringence and dichroism of the myocardium and connective tissue of the vaginal tissues histological sections were determined. Joint studies of distributions of the characteristics of phase and amplitude of the anisotropy of myocardium and connective tissue component of the vaginal wall tissues of different states were performed. The cases of various necrotic changes in the myocardium and pathological conditions of the vagina wall (prolapse of the genitals) are examined. Balanced accuracy of the method of Mueller-matrix polarization-phase and diffuse tomography of optically anisotropic polycrystalline networks in the differentiation of necrotic and pathological changes in human organs is determined.

An integro-differential equation arising as a limit of individual cell-based models

In this paper, we study mathematical properties of an integro-differential equation that arises as a particular limit case in the study of individual cell-based model. We obtain global well-posedness for some classes of interaction potentials and finite time blow-up for others. The existence of space homogeneous steady states as well as long-time asymptotics for the solutions of the problem is also discussed.     

Crystal structure and magnetic susceptibility of (CuInSe<Subscript>2</Subscript>)<Subscript>1 − <Emphasis Type="Italic">x</Emphasis></Subscript>(2MnSe)<Subscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">x</Emphasis></Subscript>

The crystal structure of samples in the (CuInSe₂)_{1 ? x} (2MnSe) _x system at room temperature and their magnetic susceptibility in the temperature range 77–1000 K are investigated. It is established that compositions with concentrations 0≤ x ≤ 0.2 form solid solutions with a tetragonal structure, space group I \(\bar 4\)2d (122). The specific magnetic susceptibility χ of samples with 0.1 ≤ x ≤ 0.4 at 77 K lies in the range 9 × 10^?4?1.6 × 10^t-3cm³/g. The temperature dependence of the inverse magnetic susceptibility of the sample with x = 0.4 suggests the presence of a component with antiferromagnetic ordering and a reliably measured Néel temperature that is characteristic of MnSe. The dependences χ = f(T) of the compositions with x = 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, and 0.4 indicate the occurrence of magnetic phase transitions with a change in the spin state.     

A model of immune system with time-dependent immune reactivity

In this paper we deal with the Marchuk model of an immune system. Among the main parameters of the model are the coefficients which describe the state of infected organism and the rate of production of antibodies. In the classical model these coefficients are constants. We consider the case when these coefficients are time-dependent. In particular, we are interested in the case of periodic coefficients which can describe periodic changes of the immune reactivity due to periodic changes of the environment. We examine the asymptotic behaviour of solutions. Under some assumptions we prove that the solutions tend to periodic functions. We also present the results of numerical simulations to illustrate the behaviour of solutions.
